NSers in Fraternities/Sororities

Cant really argue, I have no idea what real Greek life is like. But I'll bet there's more sexual intercourse in fraternities and sororities. :D

My boss all summer was the stereotypical frat bro. Egotistical muscle dummy POS. All other people I know from my highschool who joined frats were nerdy and socially awkward. Frats are WACK.

Of course you can. This just helps those out that may have a little trouble staying focused.

One of the main reasons I picked the fraternity was because it wasn't a bunch of douches like everyone's described. It has been a ton of fun and I already have some awesome friends. Fraternities can help with connections after school and look great on a resume, especially if you hold an executive position or committee.

There are plenty of women willing to open their legs to any sausage. Not saying I took them up on it, but there were plenty of offers for free STDs

In the absence of someone who was in and dropped because they hated it, the outsider argument is kind of null.

stereotypical newschoolers culture? like being rich and white? like everyone in "southern" greek life? this post confuses me, unless most southern greek life is like stomp the yard...

A-B! and there are a bunch of sigs on here! stoked to see that! I was talking to Mr.Huck a year ago and he is a kappa sig. Havnt seen him in a while. Hope it is doing well.

this is another one of those topics that seems to split ns more so than almost anything else.

i've had good encounters with the frat sort and negative ones, like everything else...there are good and bad.

I stopped by a frat last night, an maybe it's cause it was in Canada, or maybe cause I was way older than all the dudes in it, but it was the lamest shit I've ever witnessed in my life.

I used to be very very anti-frat/anti-greek. I'm pledging Sigma Chi at UW Madison and theres no douche bags who only wear polo or shit like that. Honestly one of the better moves I've made. We go hard as fuck and bitches love it, plus you can still have a life outside of frat shit. NExt weekend were going clubbing in chicago and rented out the whole bottle service at some place haha gonna be sick as fuck

I think damn near everyone is anti Greek in High school, I know I was. But you really know nothing about it until you see it first hand. Now I'm a Lambda Chi alpha brother at UO and I absolutely love it. ZAX

i don't know where you live but we sure as hell have them at the u of a. the houses are all around the university area

Yup. I was in a frat for 3 years and never said "we go hard as fuck"

That kid sounds like a douche who just doesnt wear a polo.

Beta Theta Pi at university of Idaho. Last year was my freshman year and it was a fucking blast. I've met so many awesome people being in a strong house. Hate all you want, but i could not see myself being anywhere else. Go Greek!

haha frats. I love how each frat boy says their frat isn't like the others. From the inside looking out, I feel as though most of them honestly believe that people think they are cool/think highly of them because of their involvement in a frat.

sigma nu at cu boulder. i wasnt really expecting to like greek life here, but its not bad like everybody says it is

Here are a few facts about Greek life you might not know:

Nationally, 71% of all fraternity and sorority member graduate, while only 50% of non-members graduate.

The All fraternity and sorority GPA is higher than the overall collegiate GPA.

Since 1910, 85% of the Supreme Court Justices have been fraternity or sorority members.

85% of the Fortune 500 key executives are fraternity or sorority members.

All but two Presidents were fraternity members.

Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity or sorority members.

Over 85% of the student leaders on 730 campuses are members of Greek-letter organizations.

Less than 2% of average college student expenses go towards membership dues.

i went to read that, i thought it was upside down, flipped my laptop to try read it, didnt make sense. flipped it sideways, didnt make sense, flipped it the other sideways, still didnt make sense.

and ive never been to a frat party, have a friend who is in a frat, hes a pretty chill guy, but i have heard stories of some of his buddies in the frat, and a large group of them sound like douchebags.

i dont mind frats, as long as they arent negatively affecting my life.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? I would consider practice exams to be the single most helpful study tool. I don't know how I'd prepare for the exams if I couldn't find old exams to practice with. At least at my school, simply reading the book and doing the homework isn't going to get you an A on the exam.

Also, I've yet to see a former frat member who hates frats. The only people who hate them are people who aren't in them.

do other schools not give you access to the old tests? im in civil engineering and the asce(american society of civil engineers) student group gives you access to a massive test bank. and i find it funny that greek people go on about the lifelong friendships they formed. how are they supposed to know what friendships they would have had if they didnt rush? i just find it difficult to take a single side because each one doesnt know what the other one is like because they really havent had both experiences except for maybe greeks who rush later

My chem class gives out a couple old exams, but none of the answers.

Doing practice problems is worthless if you don't know whether or not you're doing it right.

Here's my experience with Frats..

Some are super bro'd out and are totally lame to the fullest extent. Basically just acting as a bunch of party fucks who live life to get laid and prey on 'bitches'

The others are totally chill, relaxed, and not so ridiculous. Partys happen, sure.. but most of the guys there are halfway geeky, and spend more time playing video games than getting 'yoked' or being all macho.

A few of my really good friends have been frat members, and I've dated a sorority member (didn't work out, but it was mostly because I moved away, more than anything)

It really just depends on what the greek life is like. At some schools, it's also far different than others. Most of my experience has been between bay area campuses, like San Jose State, UC Berkeley, and that of UC Davis and Sacramento State. All four of which have huge differences between their greek life, and none are more than an hour away from each other.

Dear GDIs, It has come to my attention that now, more than ever, the gap between “frat” and “GDI” is widening at an exponential rate. Believe it or not, I’m not here to talk down to you or belittle you (see literally any other page on this site if that’s what you’re looking for). I’m just here to clear the air about a few things, like why we are such instruments of drunken chaos and overall damn good times, along with why we seem so different from you. First and foremost, we get hazed. It might sound unnecessary or immature to you, but we take it very seriously and consider the pledge building process a cornerstone of our respective houses. You might have heard stories of thumbs up asses, or bows-and-toes over broken glass, but I’m here to tell you that’s not what it’s about (and I assure you, most chapters aren’t that fucked up anyways). The simple fact is that each and every one of us comes out of high school cracked out on a senior year superiority complex, and a little hazing serves an excellent purpose: putting us in line. With a powerful breaking down and consequent building up of our egos, you diminish the severely misguided “I’m hot shit as a freshman” syndrome. By no means am I suggesting that all GDIs carry this tag, but without a proper guided growing process your freshman year, you miss out on a lot. I’m not saying you were a shitty person in high school. I’m just trying to point out that constant self-improvement is something to strive for in life, and Greek life offers an excellent opportunity to do just that. Second of all: we party. I know what you might be thinking. “We party too brah!” No, you don’t. Unless you can somehow match a hundred people throwing thousands of dollars a year solely for the sake of debauchery, you can’t even begin to compare. Our gamedays consist of trying to decide which band should play at our afterparty, and if 9 pallets will be enough beer. Yours are spent trying to figure out which parking lot to party in, and picking up an 18 of Heineken. Once again, not trying to belittle you, but the simple fact is you can not possibly consider yourself 1/1000th of our level in the realm of raging. We have more money, more friends, more girls, and more booze. Starting to regret your decision not to rush? I would too. Finally, and (arguably) most important, we have the women. While there are plenty of hot GDI babes scattered across campuses (believe it or not), there is simply no comparison to a sorority woman. In much the same way as pledging builds us into men, girls involved in the sorority process grow and learn and better themselves throughout. The result? Some of the classiest women on campus. Say what you want about sorority girls being bitchy (in my experience all women are), but you can’t tell me that a GDI could possibly be superior to a gorgeous, polite Southern Belle who makes one hell of a sandwich. In conclusion, my GDI friends, there is a reason we act the way we do. We may seem like caricatures of the college experience: partying daily to the point of blackout, accepting any dare no matter the risk (“You won’t fuck that chick on top of the administration building!”), and boasting about our father’s trust funds on a regular basis. I’m here to tell you…we’re not faking it. We are really like this, and you really are missing out.

You should learn how to make multiple paragraph posts, maybe that way someone would actually read what you just wrote.

Dude shut the fuck up. I guarantee the parties my friends and I threw in college were just as crazy as yours. We too had live bands play in our basement and a house so packed you could barely move and you know what? We didn't tell other guys they couldn't come because they didn't pay to be friends with us. I'm pretty neutral on the whole fear thing. Hell my girlfriend is in a sorority. But damn if you don't sound like the stereotypical frat douche.

Do you really think that everyone else in college doesn't study at least 10 hours a week? Don't act like it is honorable to have mandatory hours. This is simply to keep you fucking idiots semi in line and functional.

i rushed first semester, but declined my bids cuz i just wanna look at more of them next semester, i only got a chance to look at like a third at my school. i think ill def pledge second semester

I'm forever a pledge of Beta Theta Pi at OSU, I had about a week of pledging left when we got kicked of campus. Its pretty shitty but now I'm kinda glad I'm not tied down all the time to just hanging out with them but can hang out with my GDI's as well
