Moment Skis Discussion Thread

More moments in the wild. It was super firm today. Deathwishes were in heaven. 104 outperformed the 112.

The hype is real folks. I’ve only had two days on snow with these bad boys, but my expectations have already been exceeded. The have such confidence instilling edge hold while somehow also being so easy to scrub/pivot/mess around on that I don’t even need to think about transitioning between the two. Some truly unbelievable stuff - I’m a real fanboy now.

Hey everyone,

We've recently migrated skiburger to a hidden portion of the main website. We did this to allow customers to purchase older skis as well as bindings, apparel, skins, etc...all in one order.

You can now access skiburger through this link only:https://www.momentskis.com/collections/skiburger

It's slim pickings right now as we blew through most of the old stuff during Black Friday weekend, but if you're ever in search of a cosmetic blemish or discounted pair you can still reach out to me directly at max@momentskis.com

Happy Holidays!

Are there plans for anymore reserve drops before the end of the 23/24 season? I know you can’t say what if so.

Can a strive 115 brake stretch over a 126 gt?

Anyone who has the DW and DW104, what’s your thoughts on sizing? I ski the DW112 in 190 but think I’d size down for the 104 just to keep it a bit more nimble in tight spaces. Anyone do the same?

Both my 112 and 104 are 184 for exactly the reason you said. I ski a lot in trees and really appreciate that shorter length in tight places. Especially on my 104. I demoed a 190 112 a while back and have a 190wc and just do not enjoy either as much in tight places as would be expected. You just feel that tail hanging out there.

on the 104 I wouldn’t go 190 unless I planned to use it exclusively in more open spaces.

I just mounted a pair of Mindbender 99’s that I had laying around (at +3 so we’ll see how it goes). But next year I need to invest in a narrower ski for sure, DW104 in 184 with CAST seems like a pretty perfect setup.

Would be a killer set up. I’m hoping the new cast 2.0 will be in stock come late January. I’ll be in Reno so want moment to install cast on my ghost trains.

Sup yall, wanted to see if anyone had insight on chipotle banana mount point.

Based on the blister review I’m tempted to go -1 but I messaged the moment site chat and they were like “we recommend a specific spot for a reason” which has scared me off from -1 a little.

for reference, I ride the deathwish 184 at rec and the wc 101 179 at +1 from rec. I’m 5’10” 184

any help appreciated!

I'm going to buy some Moments at the factory in Reno next week. I've never skied a pair of Moments before, but I think I'm making the right choice. Unfortunately they're not offering demos until later in the month and I'm leaving for a trip next week. It's between the Deathwish and the Countach based off everything I've read about and want in a ski. If you were taking a long roadtrip (i'm going to the rockies, wyoming, bc, pnw) and could only bring one pair, would you bring the DW or the Countach?

Do you lean more towards freestyle or charging? If you spin go with the DW, if you're used to more directional skis with less centered mount points go Countach. I'd vote DW but I own a pair and love them so my opinion is somewhat biased.

For one ski to do it all over your trip the deathwish all day everyday. It’s going to perform better across a huge range of conditions that you’ll likely encounter at different resorts. Countach while good doesn’t perform well across as many conditions as the DW.

For anyone curious about all things Moment, we have our demo fleet up and ready to go. Commanders 92, 98 ; Deathwish 104 and Wildcat 101 for demo. We also stock the sick new Countach 110. Fire On The Mountain, Dover, NH. Hit me up or give us a call with questions or to reserve a pair!

Looking to finally pick up my first pair of Moments! I'm a 6'0" / 230lb east coast skier looking to add a pair of dedicated "taking a trip out west" daily drivers. I'd describe my ability level as on the low-end of advanced, and I'm looking for something that I can pack for any given trip out to CO, UT, CA, and BC area resorts for mostly on-piste enjoyment.

Going to be hitting Park City from 1/9-1/17, is there anywhere near SLC or Park City that does Moment demos? Would love to try out any of the following; Commander 102, DW104, DW112, Countach 110.

Would highly recommend the dw112 over the others. Again it’s going to be the most usable across the widest range of conditions. Since you’re talking about visiting multiple resorts which will give you multiple conditions snow wise.

the 104 will not perform as well when things start to get deeper. I have both the 104 and 112 and if I had to choose only 1 it would be 112 for a wider range of conditions it can perform in.

the commander is going to be very directional and very chargy with its metal inlays but not as “friendly” across the whole mountain.

countach is going to be more playful than the commander and have great float for a 110. Still chargy and less playful than the deathwish line.

if you were traveling with two skis I’d say the wish 104 and the countach.

if you’re looking for a one ski quiver for travel the deathwish is the only answer out of the list.

Moment does demos out of SLC for free. Hit up their live chat or email and they will put you in touch with the right person.

I demoed DW out of SLC before buying last year and it was a super easy experience.

Just wanted to stop-in and sing some praises for my deathwish 112s -- skied hard on Saturday at Alpine in low-coverage, storm conditions and hit tons of rocks/roots/gravel finding lines under alpine bowl chair and roundhouse, then Sunday at squaw got amazing powder turns in early before hiking to the slot/mainline pocket/funnel and hitting more chutes and pow.

Skiing the Funnel off Emigrant was a perfect microcosm for why I love my deathwishes. The top section was steep, wind-blasted to hell, and barely edgeable, so my first turns were hair raising to say the least. I was extremely thankful for the triple-camber keeping me from losing my edge. Lots of folks were just slipping or bailing altogether. Deeper into the funnel the snow turned into feet of windblown pow and I got to air it out over the rocks into some insanely fun turns - the float was perfect for my skiing style. It's really freeing to not worry about whether you have the right ski for the terrain on your feet.

I was able to survive the weekend without any core shots or major damage. Lots of racing stripes and moderately deep scratches on the base, but will just wax those out. My buddy did not have the same fate - two core shots skiing the same stuff. Cheers to the Moment team for making an awesome product!

Thanks for that. I’m pretty set on the DW now. Now for the size dilemma. 184 or 190 for someone 6’00” 170-180ish. ?

I'm 5'8" with shoes on, 140-150lb and ride the 174cm length. I love them but wish there was a 177cm. They are really quick edge to edge so unless you're skiing really tight trees I wouldn't be put off by a little extra length.

What are you skiing now?

Really it comes down to what you’re planning on using them for. I use mine in trees and tighter areas so i went with the 184 for maneuverability. I’m 6’0 185lbs.

if you plan on more open spaces I’d go 190. If you want to use it in tighter places go 184

Also similar size and weight riding the 184 for maneuverability and ski burger reasons. Not longing for more length with the triple camber bite but would be curious to try at some point.

I'm 6'2" 190 and ride the 190cm length. I like having more ski under me for stability/speed when going through chop, and more edge for sketchy skimo lines, but the biggest benefit is the extra float in powder. I haven't experienced any tip dive, even on huge 2+ feet powder days.

Deep moguls and tight trees are not as fun with the 190cm length, but manageable. To me, I ski a lot more terrain that favors a longer ski. However, I don't think I'd be on a 196cm version if they made it. Hope that helps!

Welp you guys made some convincing arguments for the 190, but I took a chance on the 184 thinking it would suit me better as a daily driver. Hope that was the right choice. Either way I’m psyched to finally own some moments. Awesome experience with the people over there.

You made the right choice. As a general ski 184 all day.

Looking for some advice... I'm 5'11" 150lbs and thinking about the wildcat 108s. I want something that I can really feel confident charging on... would you recommend 184 at +2 from rec or 179? I currently ride vishnu wet+ at 183 in the park and prodigy 2.0s at 177 as a daily driver.

If you’re looking for more charge 184. I have the 108 in a 179 but I wanted a more agile feel in tight spots. Mounted at the recommended line. All my moments are mounted at the rec line. They’ve never steered me wrong with the mount.

Okay thanks. I'm a little bit nervous that the 184s will be too much ski for me... But I am looking and wanting to charge harder. Should I just pull the trigger on the 184s or will the 179 give me enough of what I need to feel confident to ski bigger? ... Sorry for all the questions, so conflicted... Fwiw, my 177 Prodigy 2.0s feel super comfy to maneuver and get jibby, but not comfy to go fast through chop or landing drops.

The Moments will measure true to indicated length, the factions likely measure short so the actual difference may be closer to 4cm instead of 2.

Don’t get me wrong. You can still charge the 179 plenty. You just give up some stability at speed with the 179 vs the 184. But you also give up some playfulness and nimbleness with the 184. It’s really splitting hairs though and more about how comfortable you are on a longer ski and what your main preference is. If your main priority is charging I’d say go 184. More playfulness go 179. You’ll be happy either way.

Not exactly, Moment measures material length and they’re always ~1.5cm shorter once pressed. I could be totally wrong on this but my Bibby’s are like 183-ish and Deathwish 188-ish.
