Moment Skis Discussion Thread

So I know this a question that has been beaten to death, but I've never ridden a Moment ski and could use some advice. I'm 6 feet tall and about 170-175lbs. Will ski in the Sierras, Big Bear, and Colorado mostly this year. Trying to decide between the Deathwish 184 and the Jeffrey 108 186. Last year I skied the sir francis bacon 184 all year and it felt short to me so I'm a little worried that the deathwish 184 will feel too short, but am apprehensive about sizing up to the 190. I'm not the hardest charging skier, but I struggled with the lack of stability on the SFB. Is there much of a difference between the DW and the jeffrey when going fast? On the contrary, which is more fun and surfy when taking it slow? I'd like something that's still fun when riding groomers with friends and family.

Or should I be looking at the countach 188 for a playful but fast ski?

I know this doesn't full answer your question. But i ski usually Big bear and the occasional trip to Mammoth I also am coming off a pair of Line Bacons in 184s, and I just ordered 2 days ago a pair of wildcat 101s in 184s. Seems like the wildcat should be a great replacement as a fun ski. im 5,11, 185lbs and didnt think the bacon felt short though.

DW has pretty deep rocker, I'd go 190. I'm like 5'7 and ride the 184.

Any thoughts of ever doing a fish scale?

We built a pair or two back in ~2017, my dad has also produced quite a few pairs of fish scale skis.

They work well enough for low angle skinning, but the efficiency loss at moderate to steep slopes or icy conditions + the additional effort that goes into building them properly is what keeps us away from producing them at volume.

I see those 3 skis faintly showing behind the girl.

ghost train, Meridian 117 and Meridian tour.

or ghost train, chant and Meridian tour.

Please be an updated Ghost Train available in 168 like the old one. That size is best sized Moment ski I own for my short hobbit ass. I already have 2 (one is unmounted too) but one that's better on groomers between pow would be epic

Unfortunately there will not be any sub 180 lengths in this release

Ok ghost train, donner party and merdian tour.

i would say im 100% on the ghost train the clues are obvious.

I would say im also 100% on the meridian tour.

especially with longer lengths since you gave me the office Halloween clue on my comment about the short meridian tours on burger.

my last choice is getting changed to a donner party.

you dropped chants last year no? Unless you’re doing those again to coincide with the new chant poles.

love the suspense lol.

Ghost Chant, Meridian, Reno Rocker

Final Answer.

One day I'll make the reno rocker for ya, but today isn't that day.

Damn that would've been a great idea.

I see what you did there. You guys got me with the glutinous waists. Figured forsure that meant 117. lol. 107 is barely cheeky width wise lol

Yeah, we get a lot of questions about the 117.

Basically, we made the Banana, we stopped making the Banana, we made the Meridian as a skinny Banana, we made the Meridian 117 as a wider Meridian, then went back to making the Banana as it's better and more iconic ski compared to the 117.

Love the throwback graphics on the Ghost Train. Definitely jeolous that the GT and Meridian weren't released in shorter lengths for us short guys and gals

That makes a lot of sense. Only reason for the name change being banana instead of Meridian was the graphics?

Basically, and we resurrected the original Banana design, so it made sense to keep the name with the iconic graphic.

Can’t find them on the website…

Might be the great firewall (I’m in china right now) can someone share a link?

I have a pair of unmounted WC101 -- anyone here ever played with the mount? I am thinking of going +1 or +2 from rec to make the ski even better for buttering/jibbing...

Moments Rec mount point is typically the sweet spot for their skis though plenty of people change if they have a preference.

I just haven’t heard anyone say a moment ski was better when they weren’t on the rec line.

I picked up some WC101s last spring and went +1 for easier spin-ability, but in hindsight wish I went rec as I realized I just don't spend as much time in the park as I used to. I'd say it depends if you're looking for higher all-mtn speed limit, or prioritize jibbing/spinnig.

Most customers go rec, park heavy athletes go +2cm from rec

I reappy like the recommended mounting

point for the 101. I'd say only mount forward if you're riding it in the park (which I verrrry rarely do)

Lookin to pick up the death wish 112's for a few stops out west at Big Sky. I'm 5'10 and about 170, used to skiing long ass skis with a good bit of rocker(vishnu's, mango's) should I send it with the 179 or 184?

184 all day if your use to longer sticks. 179 would be fine if your trying to strictly use it in trees or tight places.

triple camber skis short anyways. I have the 104 and 112 in 184

Alright was actually gonna go 179 to be closer to my height but fuck it I'll send the taller sticks. Appreciate the input

Saw the commander series is sold out atm. Excluding the reserve skis have the new commander series been the best selling in the new line up so far?

Retail wise, we got a heavy amount of orders for them. We will have more Commanders available soon, just need to ensure we get all our retailers taken care of.

This piece of paper came with my CB’s. I was super stoked because I thought it was one of those temporary tattoos. I was gonna put it on my back.

Not a tattoo but still sick I guess

It’s the paper from the top sheet graphic transfer process. Instead of just tossing it after they save it and use it for shipping stuffing. Always check what you get. I had the new deathwish tour and Wildcat graphics before they ever released the ski.

Looking for the 2021 Commander 118 in a 188, would maybe settle for 182. I'd love this specific model year with the flatter tail. Let me know if anyone have any leads.
