Adobes new morph cut is revolutionary. It may finally replace jump cuts in interviews, etc.

I mean I wouldn't call it revolutionary, but I've yet to try it out. I think it'll be noticeable when it's done, and personally don't find it as a 'professional' tool. Jump cuts can be avoided in so many other ways

Very true, but jump cuts in interviews are hard to avoid. It really depends on the situtation, but most interviews etc. are done with one take and no prior practice.

Regardless, I see potential in this.

Bahah, you dog. What mount? Some old vivitar lenses are pretty damn sweet.

Minolta, the gods weren't kind enough to gift me a Canon or Nikon mount, then again that would be asking too much.

I've used one before, sharp as dicks and dreamy bokeh. The Series 1 lenses are quite often, quite amazing.

If I finally buy that A7 I have a nice portrait cannon otherwise it can earn me a fair penny.

Throw me in the pile... I just found a Leica ii mini last weekend for 3 whole dollars.

Not entirely sure if I want to sell it yet... if I do it will only get me maybe 100 or so anyway. I'll test it against my Olympus Stylus and see how comparable it is.

I just acquired 12 rolls of medium format that are about 10 years old that I intend to shoot and develop myself, irregularities are cool I guess...

Whelp not to hop off the cheap vintage gear train, but have sold my D3 and bought a Sony A6000. Went a bit basic bitch with the 16-55 and 55-210 kit lenses and external flash, but excited to have a full kit again, especially one so small. Time to actually start taking photos again.

Doing the same thing except I'm going for the a7II. I've used my 5d so little in the past year, pretty much always grabbing a film camera instead simply because of size. Time to downsize. Played with the a6000 yesterday in the store and was super impressed, wish they had an a7ii.

Might eventually do that, but as for now the a6000 should be more than capable for me. Pretty excited

I do hate how they made the A7II uglier by going for normal dslr speckle paint instead of the original sleek shiny black.

Took a photo back in December that was used in an ad for Sugarloaf in Powder Magazine. I guess that ad won some recognition for being the "best national ad for an east coast resort"
http://www.saminfo.com/best-worst-2015-print

b-w-2015-41.png

"Not many Eastern resorts choose to place national print ads. In a late-season edition of Powder there was a total of one: Sugarloaf. If a single Eastern resort is going to put marketing dollars into national advertising, it makes sense that it’s a “bucket list”-type place that many have yet to visit. I’ll leave design debate to the professionals, but Sugarloaf’s ad makes the snow look western-destination quality. The copy reminds us why it should be on the bucket list. I imagine it was difficult to not use an OMG shot of the triangle-shaped behemoth, but this hat tip was really about the bold and valid choice to advertise at all, not a comment on the choice of image.—AK"

little bit of everything. pm me and I'll show you some stuff and answer any questions you might have. Couple things that I can tell you right off the bat. Here's a video I made with just the C100

- I think it's one of the best run and gun professional setups, thing fits like a glove and you can shoot for a full day without any camera frustration.

- No 4k, but I use 4k cameras at work and find it just makes the post process longer and more tedious. Having to bump in and out is a nice option to have but in the end it really slows down editing and unless your client has the budget for that time, it's just not worth it (for me atleast right now). That's not to mention the amount of money you'll have to spend on storage/cards if you shoot mostly 4k.

- The MTS codec sucks. Download clipwrap and convert to prores immediately. Only takes a sec to convert with clipwrap, but it's another step in the process.

- If you chose to get the autofocus upgrade (i did), it works super well. Very quite, but the only thing is it's mid frame and it's really tough to get the composition you want while using the autofocus. Good example, I was shooting shallow at a wedding this weekend and the bride and groom are walking down the aisle, and even though I really didn't want to frame them in the center, I was absolutely forced too while using this feature. Only use this feature when it'll work, because it still doesn't give the 'rack focus' look.

- Low light capability is un fucking believable. One of the main reasons I purchased this cam. It maintains so much detail it's insane.

- The LCD display isn't the greatest

- Not having 60p sucks, because the quality would be awesome. The new mk ii has it and I'm pretty jealous of it. I'm guessing if you're buying this camera you have another b cam, so get something like the 7d mk ii with 1080 at 60p, and it's the perfect b cam (it's what I have and it matches up super well).

Let me know if you have any questions, but overall it's just a camera I've always wanted to own and would recommend it

Curious why you don't like MTS, I use it daily and had been using it for a couple years before my current job too. I converted to prores for awhile but found it just to be a large waste of space.

Takes a longer time to conform in premiere, and the way the Canon Cinema line compresses the .mts files is a little different. Canon needs to be converted to maintain highest resolution and FS100 and FS700 you can just bring right in to premiere and edit the MTS. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I've done some test and read up on it and the way the C100 compresses the MTS files has caused issues for a lot of people when it comes to exporting

I won $2500 in a video contest and instead of saving it, I blew it all plus more on this gorgeous camera. SOOOOO STOKED!!!! This little guy is a beast.

Hmm thats interesting, silly canon. I've been loving mts for years now because of how small it is and how easy it is to use with premiere, but I've only used fs100,fs700 and gh3 mts.

when you guys export in premiere do you drag to the maximum bitrate possible and make the file size as big as possible? I just uploaded a video to youtube and its banding like crazy

Can you post a picture of all of your camera gear together? Might need the Nikkor 6mm or something to accomplish this but I'm sure you have a couple of those lying around.

I'm pretty sure youtube recommends like 8-10mbps for 1080p. Bit rates on export is still a topic I don't understand fully so I'm interested to hear from others.

You definitely DON"T want to drag it to the maximum possible, though.

Too be honest it's not as massive, I flip a lot of gear very quickly. I only keep the interesting stuff longer, use it for a while and then pass it on. Dutchland has a bad thrifting market, it's either crap for 10 cents or glorious Leica for a million. Finding a third party m42 prime is already an achievement on it's own.

I get to fire some dumb kid at the studio tomorrow. Little Fucker's been talking back, thinking because he knows how to use lightroom, that he has liberty to do whatever he wants with the photos. I've been working all week fixing his mess after we told him what was expected about 19 times.

Kid seriously over saturates everything, bumps the warmth and jacks up the clarity to dumbass levels. He's turned what were well taken portraits into shit that belongs in "The Worst Photography" thread... It's like he wants everyone to look like they belong on Jersey Shore lol.

So yes Stoked he'll be fucking gone and we can get someone halfway god damn competent. Finally will be able to work solely in the studio instead of fixing his shitty messes constantly.

You just don't understand the vision of the next Ken Rockwell.

That kid is probably some saturation prodigy.

Shoot JPG

Annoyingly, this studio almost exclusively shoots jpeg unless it's something that might be retouched ever (like removing braces, or extreme acne scarring)

I get it from a memory-perspective, but the whole rockwellian "I get it right in camera the first time" is about as short sided as saying "I don't need an iPhone, I have a landline! why would I need anything else, it's a phone!"

I just found a Minolta Dimage 7 lying around the house, and thought it would be dope to throw a cheap fisheye on it and film some summer setup stuff. Don't really know much about this camera or camera's in general so some help would be dope, and I looked it up and I would need to buy a Maxxum or Dynax lens to fit on the camera, is this true?

You need to find like a 15mm lens for an A-mount camera. It would be like 300+ for used Minolta one, I'd imagine, so probably not really worth it. It's 1000 for the new Sony one (Modern ony A-mount cameras like the a99 use the old minolta mount)

i found a crappy fisheye on amazon like the ratchet fish hoodcrew one, and was thinking of getting it.

Experiment all you want but too convert a 28mm equivalent lens to something really fishy you either need a lot of dosh or you are going to have a bad time. I used to have one, it was not a bad all in one stills camera but video quality was shit and it never was the peak in it's time, yeah you can use it but there's little point in investing in it.

so not even worth using the camera?, i have a gopro hero4 that i bought, but still thought i could do something cool with the camera. Is there anything i could do for some cool footage from the minolta?

Of course you can still take pictures with it, just be aware of it's limitations, how hard is it to go out and shoot? But spending some lunch money on crap glass to put in front of it isn't worth it imho. For web 5mp is often more then enough.
