M&A stoke

Super stoked I just bought a Canon 7 and Canon 35mm f/2.8 LTM. That's not the 7D. The Canon 7 was Canon's best rangefinder camera and that lens is an amazing little thing. Can't wait for it to arrive (probably in two days).

Got a super good deal on it too. Finally some closure. I was going to buy a Leica M2/M4/M4-2/M4-P, but didn't want to drop too much, so went this route. I'll probably end up upgrading to that some time thuogh. HAPPPPYYY

Stoked to be getting some photos tomorrow on a bluebird day with no wind and deep powder. Pretty much never happens in scotland. Especially now that I've figured out shutter speed properly.

Nice man, I'd love to have a higher end RF. I just recently picked up a Canonet ql17 on ebay and have just started using it. I was such a good price I just couldn't pass it up. The only thing I had to do to get it fully functional was replace the light seals. Stoked to shoot some street with it.

finally put my pussy away and installed magic lantern on my camera. fucking stoked to try some night to day and day to night timelapses. not so stoked on it's functionality in photo mode, i wish they made their ISO's and shutter speeds a navigable with the regular canon controls. if you can do it easily in photo mode (without opening the ML menu), someone please enlighten me, as i am still a little camera retarded.

I'm not really a big fan of shallow dof. Sure I've had my time that I liked a shallower DoF f/2-f/4, but I barely shoot at those apertures anymore. And I like the 35mm focal length MUCH better than the 50mm FL.

And I don't have 1500$ laying around or however expensive it is...

when trying to take photos i cant figure out a way to utilize the additional ISO values and shutter speeds that ML provides without accessing the ML menu, rather than the typical canon controls.

You cant, at least with my version. Everytime you want to change native ISOs, you have to hit the trashcan button to get to ML. Have you tried clicking ISO and scroll through them using the scroll? That might still change ISOs natively. (160,320,320,etc), but it might not show it on the ISO screen thing. Its hard to explain over text haha.

yeah i've tried by scrolling then going back into the ML menu to see what it actually shows up as. no such luck. that would be a sweet addition to newer editions.

The 24mm is a Holga camera compared to the Zeiss.

Ethan, look into the Olympus 21mm too. GREAT little lens. You could easily save 1500$ by buying the Olympus. The Zeiss is better, yes, but also 1500$ more expensive, like 8 times as big and much heavier. My opinion is that with the Olympus 21mm around it's not worth it to get the Zeiss...

the zeiss is much nicer then a 24L, sharper at 2.8 corner to corner, better colors, non shitty focus ring/manual aperture

I'm getting the zm version for my leica later this month (;

Eheath I shoot Nikon. I'm not concerned about money, I'm buying the zeiss because of the quality and optics. Not to mention the nice focus ring and hard infinity stop for focusing, that's really important to me. The only other substitute I'd consider is the 14-24 or zeiss 15 if I could afford it.

I've been thinking about getting a job at a camera store too. How many days a week do you work? How hard is it to get a job in a camera store (knowledgewise)?

Every time I visit a camera store I feel like I know more than the person working there...

I didn't find it to be very difficult, if you have good knowledge to begin with it certainly helps, I've learned a lot since I started working there and it's definitely helped my photography. Especially learning from experienced customers is nice too. I only work Saturdays and Sundays (December only because that's the only time were open on Sundays). My boss is quite accommodating to my schedule being a university student, and it's nice that my store is only open until 7 on weekdays and 6 on weekends so it still gives you plenty of time to do stuff after work. Not to mention getting to play around with all the equipment to figure out what you want haha that's one of the nicer parts. I've used probably every Nikon and canon lens with the exception of a few.

dude tijmen is like the raddest dude on this site. he's constantly commenting, critiquing, and discussing work in the most honest and well educated way possible. he helps me out with my photography with pointers and tells you if you've done it right. he doesn't spew shit at all and he definitely doesn't write stupid fucking "#hateyou". fuck off, tijmen is way fucking sicker and smarter than you and nobody wants to see your hate in M&A.

Thanks dude. And it's VERY relevant. Many shops (of whatever niche they're in) don't emply people that only work part time. So yeah.

And that last part was totally unnecesary. But if that's what you think; so be it. Even though I don't know exactly why you think that. Oh well. To each their own. Kinda funny how your karma doesn't really reflect that people seem to be liking you very much either.

Ok thanks. I might have to start going around some shops in Amsterdam to see if they're looking for someone. I'd love to work in a camera shop for a year or so. Should be a good learning experience.

And thanks Gavin. Sometimes I can be quite condescending, but most of the time I try to be on my best behaviour, haha.

Hahaha wtf is that kid's problem. Since when is asking how many days someone works an issue, when the asker (who is a student) would want to know what an average store requests? LOL

anyways, sent my christmas list around, lots of cheap stocking stuffers (film, 28 rechargable AA's, yn560's, etc). Applying for a few jobs too because I want to spend money on gear again. Everytime I use my einstein I kick myself in the ass for not having two

working at a shot helps for sure. I loved my zeiss 50mm but sold it because i never used it/needed money. 21mm will be really solid, especially if you shoot full frame.

From all the images samples and reviews, it looks amazing. Just searching the lens on 500px search, the image results are unreal. Definitely only buying it cause I have full frame, if I shot dx it would definitely be a Tokina 11-16 because that's an awesome lens. dx can't even utilize zeiss glass to near its potential imo

Depends on what look you're trying to achieve. And as long as we're not shooting at ISO 25600 that's useable, for nighttime action strobes are necessary.

...

Can someone link me to some good examples of strobes for skiing? I honestly dont see the use of one unless you are shooting in pitch black conditions. I use the canon built in one, and i know it sucks, but i dont think i have ever thought a shot that would look better if i had a strobe.

I totally 110% disagree, strobes are awesome and are a blast to learn and use.

Fight me!

haha you guys can have your opinion, I don't care. I love strobist work

The first 3 are dope, especially the pillow one. The skate ones and the last skiing one are meh. I guess they just have their time and place for it.

With all due respect to those photographers, those are all perfect examples of the type of photography that I find painfully boring. To me its hyperclarity stifles imagination.

To each their own. I honestly picked the first examples that came up under each photographers name (Carr, Gunderson, Seo). I've seen a few creative examples of using light in a unique way, i'll look around. I can see where you're coming from though.

I enjoy it because I have an insane amount of respect for those that can do it well. It's not super easy and there's a lot to deal with even using a single light, and I enjoy the planning that goes into a strobed shot

No doubt it's incredibly difficult, I just can't seem to embrace highly concentrated, hard lighting. Do you know of some examples that look more natural? I've never seen a strobe shot that didn't didn't give off an artificial look.
