M&A stoke

I have seen some, normally in high fashion stuff.

Strobes are useful, but natty light is way nicer looking and that's not even something you can debate lol

Definitely do. I've seen trevor do it in a few times actually, but I only remember seeing his on tumblr which is currently down...

Problem with shooting sports and having a diffused light is that most of the time, the rider is too far away for any light to reach with a modifier (softbox/umbrella/etc), not to mention trying to keep the duration fast while getting an insane amount of light through a diffuser of sorts requires a $2k+ setup.

here's one thats more "diffused" than the others

Strobes can look very nice in a controlled studio environment, I just find that artificial light sticks out in outdoor environments and tends to draw attention away from the ambient light. And I realize it's a user error in this case, but most strobe use I see I can't help but think "why is that extra light even necessary? It would look better as a silhouette or with the subject underexposed."

lolol I agree, and I actually think those photo's were really interesting! I think strobe photo's are fantastic, and if I had the opportunity I wouldn't hesitate to play around with them.

It's just not consistent with my preferred style of photography. Good job at R2R btw. So lucky you got to shoot that hammer-fest.

I seriously suggest that everyone grab two cheap yongnuo lights, some triggers, lightstands and hotshoe to stand adapters and mess around with them at some point. it's maybe $150 dollars and a total blast

And thanks man! I had such a fun weekend.

k the thing you guys dont understand is that not all spots can be shot under natty light god damn theres a reason why they invented flashes! why would you want a skate pic of some fool blending in with the background with no contrast at all, itll look boring as fuck. not to mention try capturing fuckin skating at 1/60 or some shit under natural light. cant happen or itll look like shit. have fun trying to get fast shutter speeds with an f/8 aperature, cause if its not that high your shit will be out of focus unless ur god

I'm stoked to get started on a little project my friends and I are going to work on this winter. We're going to do a 'webisode' (I use that term very loosely) typed thing, which will hopefully be 2-4 edits this winter, depending on the snow. It'll cover mostly tree and pow skiing, but also some of us competing. I'm happy with how the 'logo' turned out, given that I'm in no way an artist (this was the first thing I've actually drawn in a few years), and I learned how to use Gimp as I was making it. It's really only going to be used at the beginning of the edits.

Just screened my final project for Production 1 today. Instructor gave me an A. I'm more or less happy with how it came out but I think I'm going to go back and reshoot a couple things and put some time into the sound design before I submit it to the local film fest in the spring.

GH2. Lenses were the kit lens, Lumix 7-14, Nikon 35 f2.5, and Minolta 50 f1.4. Sound was mostly a Tascam DR40.

Just get a 21mm; so much more fun.

Oh well. Stoked myself I got to shoot two rolls with an M3 today. Stoked that my Canon 7 will be ariving tomorrow (it should anyway).

Also: super stoked F-Stop is replacing my Tilopa. There was a little defect with the zipper and I'm getting a brand new one, no questions asked. What a great company. Thanks Dave!

And lastly, I picked up a bulk filmloader today, so shooting film will be MUCH cheaper from now on. Probably ordering 2x 100ft rolls of Arista Premium (rebranded Tri-X) from Freestyle.

Did you actually price out the savings by buying bulk rolls? Thomas and I realized it came out to about 40 cents a roll. Even with the rebranded stuff

It's a little more; it depends greatly on what you buy too. I've found that it's more like 0,75$-1,25$ depending on what you buy, which I think is enough reason to do it. Save like 30$/month depending on what you shoot is worth it for me.

And you can shoot cine films too, which is pretty dope. Polypan F is about 25€/400ft roll, which is 80 rolls, at 30 cents a roll.

A 100ft of Tri-X is 62$ at B&H. A roll is 4,30$. Out of a 100ft roll you get about 20 36 exposure canisters, which means it comes to about a 1,20$ difference.

With Arista Premium you're saving about 80 cents a roll.

buying a d4 before the months over! just waiting on a good deal to pop up on ebay :)

god im a happy camper right now

Loved that man!

Didn't realize you want to Keene State, a few of my friends go to school there.

I think sound was really the only weakness of the video.

Do you have Illustrator? I'd import it into that and live trace it to make it a vector. It'll make it look smoother and super easy to manipulate.

great choice, I'm sure you know this though haha. The way the d4 feels in your hands is amazing and shooting it is soooo nice. I was seriously considering the d4, but d800 will suit my needs a little better for what I shoot.

yeah man, the d800 is a fuckin great camera, you could even argue its better than the d800 in some ways. but yea, i need something more machinegun like and a bit more weatherproof than the d800. was definitely considering the d600, also an insane camera for the price

Yeah definitely all good cameras, and all cater to different aspects. Would be nice to own a d800e and d4

stoked that despite the sun hiding behind the mountain at 1230 this time of year, and sun setting at 4, the lighting on the mountains across the valley (bigalow, for you sugarloafers) is so prime and sunsets can be money. Strobe sessions ftw

ANyone want this? You pay shipping. 35mm point and shoot. Hasn't been used in 10 years. Don't know how it's working.

No, and gimp was a free download. If I ever use the logo for anything other than intros i'll probably go back and use Illustrator do a better job

Stoked on finishing the first episode of the webisode, its not my best shooting but i think the whole thing turned out pretty good.
