Interesting post, I like the thought process and never really thought of it that way. However, if different weight distribution makes tricks more difficult for women, what about female athletes in other sports? I don't really follow gymnastics or ice skating, but it appears girls who participate in both sports throw down equally has hard as the men. Both ice skating and gymnastics have elements of rotation, flipping, coordination, balance, remarkable physique. With so many girls absolutely destroying the gymnastic and ice skating world, it appears as though a different center of gravity does not hinder their performance.
To the thread creator:
Have you not seen the 2 page Spyder ad in the Buyer's Guide edition of Freeskier? It has a shot of Keri Herman grabbing high mute and clearly spinning 540 or more over the Poor Boyz transfer Gap. Along with the shot being baller as hell, this ad clearly demonstrates a female not having any issues performing a grab other than safety. Need further proof? Find her NAO run from last year and witness one of the dirtiest cork 5 high mutes done in a contest.
Overall Thoughts on Women's Skiing:
Men started skiing park before women. Up until recently, I don't recall hearing any women other than Kristi, Sarah, and Grete in films. Up until recently, I don't recall any major competitions hosting a separate category for women. Up until recently, women's specific park skis were not available for purchase. Even more disappointing, the competitions that did invite women did so with 1/10 (if any) of the prize money offered to men. Without opportunities for a legitimate career, and with so much negative industry babble regarding women's skiing, what incentives did women have to throw down?
Thankfully, things are on the rise for women. X-games stepped up the prize money and many women have filming opportunities with major production companies and increased incentives from sponsors. Girls like Keri, Kaya, Sarah, Kim Lamarre, and Grete are absolutely destroying the park scene. Everything from multiple grabs, to incredible rail skills, to switch 9s, and gnarly quad kinks go down every day these ladies click in. If you deny the fact that women are progressing, you are more blind (yet far less gifted) than Stevie Wonder at the height of his piano career. (May he Rest in Peace).
