How to make a homemade hoodie???

to answer everyone's question about the fabric, I used 74% cotton and 26% polyester i love the feel of it its very soft, some people described it as a huge pillow and it sure feels like it.

The thing about my fabric is that because its mostly cotton it gets wet really easily and hard to dry

I recommend fleece its warm and stays dry and pretty comfortable too

not a big deal i completely agree. considering this is my first real solo project with a sewing machine i would consider this a success. minus the collar which is a complete failure. we will do many more prototypes before considering making a shirt for sale.

no i used all the same fabric. this was more of just a test to see what i could do. so i didn't really go all out.

well good luck haha and try making like a tutorial of it and like process of making cause i wanna make my own tall ts soon too

the vest part is done i have a liner in itstill need to add zipper and sleves obviously.ill have it done next week cause i need to dye more fabric blue (i buy whit its cheaper and i can make it custom colors)pluss its finalls week so im pretty loaded!i was way easier to make then i though imma make another one to this one is lookin pretty good and i just made shit up as i wentso the next one should be even better

go for it man! the left sleve will be solid blue with whit ribbing and the other will have 2 blue stripes and whit ribbing the patern will flow over both sleevs
and above me..
ILL that sweater is legit looks nice and clrean!

thats sick dude. the collar all seems a bit weird though, how did you do it? collar shapes can be a bit decieving when you make them - what looks right when you're sewing it isn't the same as what looks right when you're wearing it.

just added the zipper and pockets!sleeves are being dyed now!finished hoodie should be done by tomorrow night or by the weekend!

my fabric came out to light so i had to dye it again delaying the completion but i did manage to attatch the zipper!

showing the liner and the zipper!it was hard as shit to do the zipper but i like it alot more now!just a little something to hold you over to untill it is alll finished!

how thoroughly are you washing the fabrics between dying and sewing it? you gotta be real careful so that it won't run.. i made the nicest blue and white hoodie but the dye ran and it ruined itself in the wash

well where i got my fabric they only had red grey and white and grey was 2 bucks more per yard and red was 5 so i figure i would buy all white then cut the shapes and dye what i needed.i bought dye at walmart i found it in the craft isle where you find tei dye stuff.i mixed to dif blues to get the right color and simply used my big washtub sick by my washer.1filled sick with warm water2 add a shit load of salt (i dont know why but the packet said so)3 throw in fabric stir ans squeze thouroly for a few minuts.4 stir e ery like 10 minuts for an hour.5 drain, and rinse fabric with cold water. keep rinsing untill all the colored water is gone.6 throw in washer and wash on a regular cycle to get every bit of loose dye out (so when you sew togeath and wash again the colors wont run)7 dry DONT USE DRYER UNLES YOU WASH ALL OF THE FABRIC YOU IWLL USE BECUASE IF YOU EVER DO IT AGIAN THE COLOR FABIC WILL NOT SHRINK AND THE REST WILL GIVING YOU WIERD ASS SEEMS!so simply hang dry/rant hahaand its a great way to get the PERFECT colors to watch the rest of your gear

on regular cylce, with detergenti should be goodive dyed clothing before and never had it runi hope it doesnt but since i did use detergent there is no reason it should run anymore

for anyone that can help,

Are there any little tricks tat you guys used that helped or made the process easier?

be aquantied with a sewing machine, use sharp scizors.make patern bigger then you think you need it becuas you can alway make it smaller but its a pain to add more fabric.and wash fabric before you cut a sew because if you wash and dry then cut to size you wont have to ever worrie about washing it and it shrinking again.+ if your using bringht colors with white the colors might run when you was it the first time

See all the sick hoodies you guys have made makes me wanna do my own, a nice plain red tall hoodie!

did you have any experience with a sewing machine before you started making your hoodie, or did you just give it a go and pick it up?

yes you should be familiar with a sewing machine maching up all the fabric sewing in not straight lines and such will be a bit tricky for a first time user

so i had to use fleece because they had very limited sweatshirt fabric and it was hella expensive.
