has anyone made their own hoodie from scratch???

if so.. any pictures or instructions on how to make them and materials used to make them will be helpful

thanks a lot!

Making them from scratch is way different than chopping two up and combining. for completely custom ones you will need 3 yds of the main fabric with additional 1 yd for the hood and pouch, also another yd of ribbing for the sleeves and bottom. you can pick up the pattern from your local fabric store and just follow the directions. good luck

Okay, I'm going to assume you want to piece together two hoodies to make a super tall one, as it seems to be popular (personally I don't like it, but whatever). As for making one from complete stratch, you're on your own.

You need: Two (or more) hoodies, sewing machine, and scissors. That's about it.

1. Decide where the new part of the hoodie will go on the old hoodie, whether it will be a two or three piece design, etc, and cut it out accordingly.

2. Time to sew it. It looks better if you flip both pieces of fabric inside out, put them together so on both sides the inside is showing, the sew along the edge. This will create a smooth line when worn normally. Make sure to overstitch when you're done to prevent pulling apart. Finish it up, and hopefully, you should get something wearable.

3. Wear it.

thanks for the advices ya i don't want to sew 2 hoodies together just make from scratch

ive seen that instructions before most helpful sofar...

You kind of just need to check out your local craft store, but I recommend polar fleece for the lining and around a 80/20 cotton/poly blend for the outer material. Or you could skip the fleece if you just want a layer.

why has only one woman posted on this thread? if not in the kitchen you girls better be in the den making your man a sweater input please.

You decide!!!

the 1st one... it has some flow... having the yellow on the left next to the red makes it confusing.

personally i wouldnt have the yellow at all imo

hmmm i see well i thought the blue side was too plain without anything so i added it in....

well too late now... its already stiched in hahahaha but thanks for the advice

i shall, it was originally meant to be that way hahaha

thought i would make some money off some hoodies i make...

original idea... - 10 bucks on material make them in 5 hours or so and sell for about 60 for 50 profit...

reality - 50 on material... 5 hours and still half done.... dunno if anyone would buy... hahaha

Brian that looks dope! And if it's too long you can always cut/fold the bottom.

Inspired by this thread I started to make a hoodie out of light cotton fabric. If this works out nice I make another one for skiing for the next season.

you'll never really make a lot of profit on it.. there's a reason most big brands are outsourced. if you enjoy doing it and you get at least enough to recover your expenses, then you're all good!

ya i realized that now.... i love making hoodies its just that my parents are really against it during school so after i finish this hoodie im waiting until summer break to make more when i have a lot of time

hahahaha i think making your own hoodies is going to be the new big thing in skiing

i am looking forward to seeing everyones creativity in making hoodies

and thanks a lot!!

My first ever completed hoodie!!!!!

Brian that looks really sick! I just finished my first hoodie yesterday but I'm so stoked I could make another one right now. Too bad the fabrics are pretty expensive, about 9 euros (12 USD) per meter so one hoodie costs about 40 USD.
