There was a time that Lil Wayne wasn't a shit rapper.... Back when he was a Hot Boy and dropped the first couple of Carters.
There was most certainly some shit rappers back in the day. That fact is that your statement is undeniable. However, the majority of rappers back in the day didn't sound like they had peanut butter stuck to the roof of their mouths.
Please list 10 albums from this year that rival my list from 2001.
1. A$AP Rocky - At Long Last A$AP
2. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
3. Dr. Dre - Compton
4. Travis $cott - Rodeo
5. Action Bronson - Mr. Wonderful
6. Tyler the Creator - Cherry Bomb
7. Lupe Fiasco - Tetsuo & Youth
8. King Los - God, Money, War
9. Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$
10. J. Cole - Forrest Hills Drive (December 2014, close enough)
And 2015 isn't even over yet. This list can be debatable though, some people obviously don't like Travis or Tyler but they both have a booming career ahead of them. We may one day look back on these albums the same way we do at the ones you listed.
If you want to talk about 2014, well:
1. Vibes - Theophilus London
2. GIRL - Pharrell
3. Z - SZA
4. DeadBoy - Bones
5. Cilvia Demo - Isaiah Rashad
6. Travis $cott - Days Before Rodeo
7. Schoolboy Q - Oxymoron
8. Flying Lotus - You're Dead!
9. Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2
10. Mac Miller - Faces
These aren't perfect lists, just off the top of my mind. In no way am I saying that they top the albums you listed though, they just contend. Early 2000s rap will always have a special place in my heart.
