I think I have a pretty good understanding of the Taliban.

You also chose to quote only part of what I said, missing the key comparison.

Al Quida are terrorists. The Taliban is a violent political organization.

But, you obviously don't, though. That's also mighty rich of you considering you've purposely ignored my key point. Do we need to further break down the definitions of terror and terrorism since there still seems to be a pretty massive lack of basic understanding here?

Additionally, the atrocities committed daily against the Afghani population by the Taliban are widely considered terrorist acts, and the decision to not recognize them as a terrorist organization by the Afghan and U.S. governments is purely political. End this self-deception and start looking at the facts

Regardless of his intent and actions, he is a soldier in the US Army and has the right to a Court Martial under the UCMJ. Not to be left as Afghan rape meat.

At the end of the day we need to acknowledge that under the current time table and conditions the Taliban will be involved in Afghan politics. Do we want the Afghan Taliban to be influenced only by ISI and relatively new hard liners out of Pakistan or would having some older guys who can remember what we did to them after they let bin Ladin and AQ hang out?

At what cost?

I'd prefer if the Taliban were all dead, both new and old. Having those "old guard" guys will be worse, because now they know we're a weak country with a weak president.

Because our Presidents are so long lasting...

I think they also know that we successfully toppled their government, killed a bunch of their friends, and shipped them off to Gitmo for a decade, in a matter of weeks with only a few guys on the ground.
