of pretending he's kalani robb surfing when he skiis. I've watched their nimbus japan episodes and they're clearly just hacking buckets of pillows like its a lip of a wave. Eric you can't do that. It's just not fair. if you surf you appreciate those kinds of turns props nimbus

there, i said it. IM NOT SAYING HE HAS BAD STYLE. personally, i just dont like his style. IM NOT SAYING HES NOT GOOD. IM NOT SAYING HES NOT ONE OF THE VERY BEST. IM NOT SAYING HE HASNT PUSHED THE SPORT. what im saying is, how many different grabs does pollard do? safety grab and???? sometimes he'll uncross mute opposite safety. if i were watching a pollard edit and said "pollard did a 5" you would know exactly what it looked like without me telling you anything else. i wouldnt have to say 5 crit, 5 mute, 5 tail, 5 nose...you would picture in your head a 5 safety.

I think he is smooth as fuck and one of the best skiers out there. i think his style is good. i think he has pushed the sport an incredible amount. i dont think he should change the way he skis. i just think its lame that he only does safety grabs.

what would people say about a park rat who only grabs mute?

i think he should ski the way hes skis. he is good. he is smooth. i understand why his style is considered good, i just dont like it and feel his airs always look the same.

SOOO...to reiterate....I'M NOT SAYING HE DOESN'T HAVE STYLE. I'M SAYING I DON'T LIKE THE STYLE WHERE EVERY AIR LOOKS THE SAME. I understand why people like his style. He is smooth. He looks comfortable. However, does he look creative in the air? Not at all.

 
Agreed. They are still sick on this year's, which I have, but the first year's were the best graphics ever. He set the bar too high. Guilty of being a creative artist as well...
 
And what we are saying is that his style is his creativity. Because when you say Pollard did a 5, we will know what it looks like because it will be a Pollard 5, and his 5's are so much different and better than anyone else's because of his style. And it makes him one of the most creative skiers out there cause all of his tricks are his. Hope that made sense.
 
smooth, yes. comfortable, yes. creative in the air? im not sure i agree there. smooth an comfortable does not mean creative. yes, he is creative while skiing a line, but his tricks are all rather stock. what does he do that no one else does? what tricks did he pioneer? what tricks has he done that made you say "wow thats the first time ive seen that"

thats creativity. when it comes to skiing lines and small to medium drops, yes he is creative, but his tricks are not, which is what my original point was (seems like that was missed). he does stock spins with stock grabs in a lazy/comfortable style. hes not doing anything that hasnt been done. lazy comfortable and smooth spins happened before him. watch Royalty for evidence

his 5s are different and better? different i can accept, but better, thats judgment. whats your criteria for one 5 being better than another? i personally think many people do better 5s than pollard because i like to see someone do a 5 a bunch of different ways instead of slowly corked with a safety grab every time.

Im not saying any of you are wrong, im saying youre missing my point and calling me wrong.
 
style like that has never really been thrown down in the BC before him though. but i get what your saying.
 
No no no Im not trying to say you're wrong, I know he doesn't throw dub corks or anything. I was just trying to say that in my opinion, it seems that all the tricks he does are different than if someone else does it. Like I can always tell if its him or not when I watch a video, even if everyone just did the same trick as him. And to me, thats creative, cause its almost as if they are completely new tricks. But that's just how it seems to me. And when I said better, I was just trying to emphasize the difference. My bad.
 
^thats a good point. he is doing the exact same tricks he was doing in propaganda, he has just changed the location. he is one of the first to have actual park style off BC hits.

i also think its funny that my karma has gone down about 4000 points since my first post in this thread 5 hours ago in which i merely said i dont like pollards style and then backed it up with my reasoning. well thought out disagreements make this site better, guys. i appreciate other people considering what i say and then giving their opinion instead of "you dont like pollard you jerk -K!!!"

He may not "innovate" new "tricks," but he does come up with some crazy ways of doing old ones... i.e. his style, timing, and what types of features he hits.

I do know that the first huge zero spin I saw was from pollard. And the first nosepress I ever saw was pollard (Axis magazine, waaaay long ago, on a rainbow rail.)

Yes, he's an amazing skier on many levels, but some people here see one statement that opposes him and they will just go crazy.

he does this switch powder slash thing that is sick, its in a HY webisode, that ive never seen before, now i do it all the time to spray unknowing gapers. awesome. favorite skier
