this lebanese chick i know really wants to go there soon...i just dont really know much about it so it's kinda far down on my travel list right now cause ive already got like 7 other big trips lined up

yeah no shit,, my brother used to work in dubai

everybody says like oh bill gates is the richest man in the world,, or donald trumph they have like what 100 billion dollars

thats nothing

some of the oil daddies in dubai own hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of oil. they build cities as a hobby

soo sick to have a city made of oil......i mean for wars......wait i mean off of the backs of the poor......

yeah my girlfriend's mom went there for a wedding. the place is ridiculous, but it pisses me off because they have TOO MUCH MONEY. why build the world's tallest skyscraper and then have the ability to keep making it taller so it can never be beat? why build man made island systems in the shape of a palm tree and a map of the world? why not give it to the poverty stricken areas immediately surrounding the rich and beautiful city? seriously, there are serious poor areas directly surrounding one of the richest cities in the world, and they don't do shit for them. all they do is flaunt it with all of their architectural wonders, including hundreds of ridiculous hotels. but here's the thing, no one goes there. according to my girlfriend's mom, the hotel she stayed at was massive, but nearly empty.

i don't know it just bothers me what they do with their money. still a beautiful city. the "seven star hotel" (the one designed to look like a sail) is a customer of a company my dad used to work for. i always wanted to see if we could get to stay there.

and one more thing, it's amazing how quickly that place blew up to how it is now. i read a natgeo article on it, and they compared pictures of the same main strip of road down the middle of the city, and about 10 years ago it was a gas station and a toyota dealership, that's it. now look at it, fucking crazy.

my parents were visiting my brother AT THAT HOTEL AT THE SAME TIME AS THOSE TENNIS PLAYERS WERE PLAYING ON THE HELIPAD they got to meet marat safin and i think ferrer but yeah they ended up being on the same elevator with some baller tennis players,,

its funny you posted that picture

Do you ever think about anything before you type it?

First off, nobody has "hundreds of trillions of dollars" of anything. In fact, you'd probably be hard pressed to find just one hundred trillion dollars if you put the entire world together. Second, Bill Gates is still the wealthiest single individual on the planet with an estimated net worth of $56 billion. Thirdly, there is no individual in the Middle East that has anywhere close to the wealth Bill Gates possesses. The wealthiest single person in the Middle East, for example, is Prince Al-Waleed of Saudi Arabia who has an estimated wealth of approximately $20.3 billion. The wealthiest person in the world to gain the majority of their fortune from the oil industry is even further down the list and probably closer to the 40th spot.

my cousin has a summer apartment in dubai. Ive never actually gone because i've had football every summer since they have had an apartment there.

And another thing...acording to Forbes,

Donald Trump is the 314th wealthiest individual on the planet with a comparatively minuscule fortune of just under $3 billion.

oil daddies pwn bill gates in their sleep

imagine owning like 5 percent of the worlds oil reserves,,, you own all that land and oil but you havent been payed for it yet so of course nobody says you are by far the richest man in the world. dude you have no idea how fucking rich those people are but they dont want to be famous for it so they keep it under rapps.

You have absolutely no knowledge or concept of either money or economics. Lets put your idea into perspective. The entire United States has a GDP of about $13 trillion. Thus, you mean to tell me that some random Arab oil tycoon with "hundreds of trillions of dollars" has more money than the wealthiest entity on the planet? Thats absurd.

Also, by your reasoning, I should include Microsoft in Bill Gates’ net worth. The current assets of Microsoft are just under $70 billion at the moment, so lets add those in. Plus, we have the net income every year. They currently have profits of around 14 billion, so lets be conservative and say that Microsoft will earn an average annual profit of about $10 billion for the next 20 years (this is in complete disregard of things like growth or inflation). So thats another $200 billion. Microsoft also has a total market value of about $300 billion. So, by your complete lack of practical analysis, Bill Gates would have around $600 billion. Thats also absurd.

Please do everyone a favor and stop talking about things you obviously have no clue about. Though that may be expecting too much from someone that thinks billionaires "pwn" each other in their sleep.

holy fuck

that place is soooo baller, i want amon amarth to go there so i go there cause its rad and get to see amon amarth too

Yeah, the only problem is Saudi Arabia is a dry country. But hotel resturaunts are allowed to serve alcohol with a permit, and I'm sure its not terribly difficult to come by.

And yes, they are American friendly. They are capitalists just like us.

i remember watching something on the discovery channel about making that rib thingy with a ring around it beach thing. they took giant ships with cannons that shoot sand it was sick

Damn to picture above. But in a tv show I watched, explains the billions being spent to make Dubai a new tourist attraction. Basically, their oil is suppose to run out with in the next couple decades, and once the oil is gone, so is their economy. Their trying to make Dubai one of the world's biggest tourist attractions to feed their economy. Sounds pretty smart to me...

And yah, people there are super rich. If only it had mountains with resorts like whistler...

My brother had a few days of shore leave in Dubai while serving with the Navy ROTC. He brought back a really cool curved knife and postcards of that "7 star hotel." That place is ridiculous.

Also, in response to the question of "why build man made island systems in the shape of a palm tree and a map of the world?" the reason is to create valuable shore front property. Imagine how much coastline real estate is worth in a hub like Dubai and then realize how many miles of artificial shoreline were created to satisfy the unlimited demand for land. Assuming the new islands are geologically stable, investing in land seems like it was a very wise investment because that shore front property will retain enormous value even after UAE's oil reserves are long gone.

one of my friends just graduated with a masters in architecture, and got to do an internship in Dubai. it's amazing, he said architects are just loaded with stuff. right place at the right time.

Oh, and NOBODY should ever try to argue with Quinny on anything. it's just asking to get owned. Smart people usually don't argue unless they are certain what they are arguing about

I believe i remember hearing something about the islands that they made. Isn't it really bad for things that used to leave under water where those islands now stand? Maybe its just me but it seems like our oceans are in trouble and don't get much attention.

Ok, UAE. My bad. And I didn't fail. . . I took human geography. . . which is more of a sociology class. Either way, I got a C. Cs get degrees, remember that.

I know a guy from Dubai. I've always wanted to ask him about those penis islands but I never have.

Its definitely a cool place. Too bad its in the middle east.

Dubai hasn't very very little oil. The UAE has a bunch, but not Dubai specificially. Their economy is far from going in the toilet. The Sheik who runs the country is extremely smart. He's turned a pile of sand into a banking and financial centre that is approaching the likes of New York, London, Hong Kong and Mumbai, and has holdings diversified in countless different industries (Real Estate is huge, and remember that whole Ports thing a couple years back?). Dubai will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. Oh and Carlos Slim is now the richest person in the world. I believe his net worth is now north of $70 billion. It'd be nice to own like 90% of the telecom industry in Mexico.
