Drill here. Drill now. Pay Less.

Well then welcome to the real price of doing business in a first world nation. All these perks we enjoy come at a price...

Wordie.

What about sugarcane?(is that still used to make ethanol? or is that something different?) whats bad about that? i heard they have been using that a lot down near the equator.

Last time I checked the price of oil is high for everyone else in the world too. Thats why its called a global market...As a result, the price of doing business is going up, but for everyone.

This is where your right wing touted 'free market' comes into play. Everyone around the world is dealing with these prices and someone will find a way around it; thats the beauty of a competitive market. Now you guys either need to adapt to the changing market and stay on top or you get beat out by some else who does. Thats the nature of the game!

My dad is a private auditor for businesses like Parts Depot, Ferguson, Hughes Supply, etc. He also installs camera systems in their warehouses. My dad is also 58, you can't just change careers like that. We also breed horses which is my mom's business. We try to have 3 babies on the ground at the beginning of each year. But with stud fees, vet appointments, special food and hauling everything has become tight. It's also harder to get our mares to catch since my mare is 21, the other one is 21 and the third mare is 16. We can't even afford to get the two year old into training.

I'm not saying for gas prices to lower just for me. No one in this country wants to pay that kind of money to get from A to B.

The real answer to this whole debacle is electric. A car which runs solely on electric, but has a gas engine whose sole purpose is to recharge the batteries, gets ridiculous gas mileage, costs nothing to run, and potentially could cost little more to make than your standard family sedan. Of course, it'd help if Texaco would give up that damned patent they have to the ultimate car battery (purchased about 20 years ago for the sole purpose of making sure no one ever, ever uses it in a car and supplants gas-powered vehicles in the market). Right now oil companies are trying to hold back the tide. Cars like the Chevy Volt (only better; ie, the moderately-priced version of the tesla roadster) are the future.

where are you getting that from? hes saying that everyone is dealing with the same problem you are. there is large group of people that have realized that oil dependancy must change, so instead of complaining about it they are doing something about it by trying to find other means of energy. thats where the competitive market comes into play, lots of people being smart and doing something is kickstarting a new era of energy. take that crude oil cock out of your mouth and realize that its going to change sometime and drilling will just fuck the environment up even more. all so you dont have to pay 4$/gal. for a few more years?

no, you are, since you dont seem to bring anything to the arguement, just annouce people as idiots when their views differ from yours. i am not defending that oil should continue to run our transportation and fossil fuels should be our primary source of energy. We severely need to update the automotive industry, and find cheaper ways of getting from A to B without relying on gas as the main source of fuel.

Gas Sucks, Governments are Run by Big Buisness Corporations, and Other methods of providing energy for cars are being help from the public.

Do you know theres a law against making a car that gets over 60mpg?

We need to make cars more efficient, not just find more gas to waste.

so please explain to me how drilling for more oil is finding a cheaper way of getting from A to B without relying on gas as the main source of fuel.

so your saying that your dad can't drive a small car because of the companies he audits? thats kinda dumb. unless I have no idea what auditing means. And then your mom needs a truck for a horse trailer right? I can see that. But then you just need to charge more. Your price goes up, you either eat it in profits or raise your price. Its that simple.

i challenge you to look at your state's revenues from transportation-related items and compared that to the expenditures on transportation-related items. you will discover an obvious gap. it is truly unfortunate that gas taxes/tolls/etc do not go 100% toward transportation-related programs/improvements/etc.

Know how I know that skiing is a bourgeoise, rich, cracker sport? Because so many of you are obnoxiously, unquestioningly, devoutly republican. I can read this thread, and the other half dozen vaguely political threads, and pick out whose parents own a small business.

Nationally (and globally) the youth is overwhelmingly liberal. Only the children of the rich, and often the very people whose lavish and decadent lifestyles put us in this fucking debacle in the first place, would make a statement like "John McCain is the lesser of two evils".

If there is anything more cringe worthy than over privileged kids whom recently traded their pokemon cards forMcCain '08 bumper stickers waxing philosophical about an issue this complicated, with all the fervor of a Baptist minister ...I've never seen it.

Reality check: Your 18 and have had everything handed to you. Shut up.

I solemnly swear to never read another thread like this on ns, let alone post in one. I apologize.

you would be correct. but unfortunately the money not spent is saved for spending on later projects, it gets sucked out for non-transportation related items. even at the federal level fed gas tax gets sucked out toward other projects. its a shame. our infrastructure is in terrible shape.

Please don't. Rational people with education opinions are exactly what we need more of here :)

Until alternatives are developed so they are efficient we need oil. We need OUR oil, not foreign oil. Do you know where we get most of our oil?

He shops stores to see if your employees are stealing so when you shop you usually buy stuff. I've seen cases of oil in his truck along with two trannies once.

Sorry, but you just can't jack up the price of a horse two grand because gas prices have risen.

It's not that simple.

and how does drilling help develop alternatives? the solution will not just come to you on a silver platter.

Yes, most of our oil comes from Canada, and last time I checked Alaska was to the left of Canada - seems like a gold mine to me. But then of course I hear Colorado is loaded with oil.

So paying unbelievable prices for gas will help us find more alternatives. That's correct. But I don't want to keep paying $4.00 a gallon for gas that has ETHANOL in it.

The point us 'liberal treehuggers' are trying to expalin here is that drilling for the oil in anwr WONT help one damn bit with speeding up research for alternative fuels. It will do nothing to ease your gas prices either because oil is sold on the global market and as a result, the oil coming outta ANWR will be the same price as the oil coming outta the Middle East. There is a reason you guys buy oil from Canada and the middle east, its cheaper then producing it yourselves!

What oil company is going to go and drill in ANWR and sell oil to the US market for less then the global price? No one...thats retarded business in todays world. Now unless your talking about a government funded project to subsidize oil prices within the us, your doing NOTHING for yourself by supporting drilling in ANWR. The only ting you are doing is giving licenses to oil companies to ensure that our dependance on oil lasts even longer.

Good job...real smart game plan...

Learn about oil speculations and futures markets and you'll realize this hike in gas prices isn't based on supply/demand.

rational, haha, his ratio is a little off, i'd say the majority of this site is liberal. also, based on poling, it's something like 70% of people with higher education are planning on voting for obama, it'd very regional, but uneductated people dont look toward future progress, and just see tax cuts and breaks that benefit them now. this short sightedness of our population is why we go from surplus to deficit, then reelect a president with an IQ under 100.

Then its the duty of the educated people to explain to the non educated people whats going on. Thats what I'm trying to do here anyways...

But in the meantime I'm providing evidence disproving the accuracy of your articles/point of view and you have no rebuttle other then "its just sitting there...we might as well go after it"...

See, now this is turning into a one-way debate. You post an article, I shoot it down.

I've posted many opinions on 'my' side...please...attack one of them with something new for the sake of turning this into an actual debate.

You you just blindly follow whatever the GOP tells you eh.

Awesome. Good luck with that.

I've always been unable to understand why people think that reposting an article they found somewhere constitutes a valid point. Try having your own ideas and opinions, rather than making the thread into a cut and paste hack job.

I accept the fact that you are a very under educated right winger on this issue.

Thats all you have proven here...

Undereducated? Sorry, I think you're talking about all the 12 year olds on NS. I've given you the facts that I've found. What more do you want? A debate? Nope, sorry.

Nope...I'm talking about you. To have an opinion on an issue is one thing, to claim you're educated on it is another.

You're not considered educated because you post a link on here you likely got from an in office email. If you dont have enough knowledge on the subject to debate it with someone on the other side of the issue, you're not educated on the topic. All you do is just post links and say nothing. You haven't countered any of my points, and you refuse to try to counter them even when i call you out on it (likely because you can't).

You have shown me, and hopefully others on here, that you are not educated on this. Stop pretending like you are.
