Does it matter if God exists?

I proved the inconsistencies in the Bible, and you called me on not wording the explanation to a rainbow properly, without directly refuting anything I said, and only pointing to another passage, showing the bible's contradictory nature.

Face it, you've lost. Nietzsche said God is dead, and I believe him.

Now there you go making illogical statements again. First off, I have never used the "something from nothing" statement. It is beyond cliched.

What I do is called making a foundational assumption. I assume that God is the ultimate being and power, and that everything came from Him. He has always existed, so therefore, He doesn't need a creator. He is accountable to no one, can do as He wishes, and is perfect.

Everything logically flows from there.

The further back we go with YOUR theories, the less logical they get.

OK we have incredible biodiversity today. Where did it come from?

An unrepeatably long period of unobserved evolution and adaptation.

OK where did the evolution start?

A single-celled organism which came from amino acids in a primordial environment.

OK where did that come from?

A huge explosion which, flying in the face of every explosion since then, created more order than it disrupted.

OK where did the explosion come from?

A collection of matter and energy which tightly compressed at the center of what we now call the universe.

OK where did that matter and energy come from?

...

You claim science. You claim logic, but you have the exact same problem I do, with none of the answers.

No. I never said that.

You said:

"I don't believe in God, so he doesn't exist. Period."

I'm going to keep going back to that, because it's what you said, and in that moment, you dug yourself a hole that is impossible to get out of without admitting you are wrong or trying to dodge around what you said, which is what you are doing now.

I have, and continue to say, that peoples' perceptions of reality don't affect absolute reality. Now you're trying to say that that was your original intent, but it wasn't. What you said was:

It's all perception, I don't believe in him, therefore he doesn't exist, period.

The structure of your statement sets you up as the arbiter of reality. That just doesn't work, because there are absolutes, there is a God to answer to, you know it, and it makes you uncomfortable. Right now, it's not on a level that you can even articulate. You're simply rebelling against an unseen authority which makes you feel bad. The root of atheism is rebellion.

You haven't proven anything to anyone. Simply turned away to nitpick at another issue when confronted with logical interpretation.

Colossians 1:25-27 (New International Version)

25I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— 26the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. 27To

them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious

riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

The fact is that you have no desire to find a logical interpretation of scripture, so God keeps it hidden from you, just as it says above.

I bet you would be the first to admit that the only reason you read scripture is to find fault with it, so why should you expect its Creator to reveal its mysteries to you by helping you to divinely understand it?

Would you show your own artwork to a person who you knew hated you and would do nothing but tear you down? It would be completely lost on them and a waste of your time.

You don't understand the scriptures because you don't want to.

You need to understand Occam's razor before you can claim all these things all illogical.

Claiming the existence of a supernatural being is automatically more illogical than any theory that is within the bounds of the laws of physics. By its very nature, God, a supernatural entity that doesn't exist within our universe is incapable of interacting with our universe.

You also seem perfectly okay with stating that God has always existed without even acknowledging the obvious flaw in that argument. Perhaps the universe has always existed? Maybe it has been an infinite cycle of expansions and collapses. How can you say that this is impossible but then go on to say that God can exist forever?

Everything logically flows from your completely flawed premises. How can you say that God existed forever, what evidence do you have for this? What evidence do you have that he is perfect and is accountable to no one?

Your argument is valid but not sound. It is similar to me arguing that "all people can fly, john is a person, therefore john can fly." The conclusion obviously follows from the premises, but the premises are clearly false.

You claim to have the answers, but you really don't have any. Your answers are no better than mine... in fact, they are even worse than mine, because yours are backed up by no evidence whatsoever outside of an ancient book.

An eternal being in a finite universe? Lol. NO. GTFO with your circular arguments and lack of understanding about physics.

1. Different environments with abundant natural supplies breeds biodiversity. That is one of the building blocks of evolutionary theory. And to answer your question, I refer you to our periodic table.
2. Evolution starts with basic materials. There are many different proven theories that show naturally synthesized amino acids can occur in everything from lightning strikes, to our Ice Caps, to primordial soup. Cell walls as well, which makes up archaeobacteria.
3. Big bang theory is not a legit theory anymore. Read my previous long post you fuck up.
4. " "
5. " "

You have no logic, very shallow understanding of astro and biophysics, and you are a terrible debater with irrational arguments and commit several fallacies in your creation of those arguments.

Oh, and I should mention that in the ice experiments, it is RNA strands that are synthesized from elements captured within natural pressurized ice.

How can you possibly know that God is an absolute when you have no access to information gathered from perceptions OF that absolute reality? Based on your own argument, you yourself have no proof that God exists outside of written word, which is, of course, a very personal perception of non-absolute, third party origins and research.

Let me explain to you your fallacy:
break-the-cycle.jpg

Admit you have no sources outside of the Bible to cement your claims, therefore you are clinging to this argument to justify your beliefs. You have committed a fallacy, so admit to it and learn.

Fine, but this zacman kid is trying to support his claims and calling everyone else's fallacies out with severely incomplete knowledge of his opposing debate party, so I figured I'd clue him in on his own fallacies.

Copypasta'd from my brother

There are literally thousands of religions being practiced today. Here are 20 of the most popular, along with an estimate of the number of followers:
  1. Christianity: 2.1 billion
  2. Islam: 1.3 billion
  3. Hinduism: 900 million
  4. Chinese traditional religion: 394 million
  5. Buddhism: 376 million
  6. African Traditional & Diasporic: 100 million
  7. Sikhism: 23 million
  8. Juche: 19 million
  9. Spiritism: 15 million
  10. Judaism: 14 million
  11. Baha'i: 7 million
  12. Jainism: 4.2 million
  13. Shinto: 4 million
  14. Cao Dai: 4 million
  15. Zoroastrianism: 2.6 million
  16. Tenrikyo: 2 million
  17. Neo-Paganism: 1 million
  18. Unitarian-Universalism: 800 thousand
  19. Rastafarianism: 600 thousand
  20. Scientology: 500 thousand
[Source: Encyclopedia Britannica]If you believe in God, you have chosen to reject Allah, Vishnu, Budda, Waheguru and all of the thousands of other gods that other people worship today. It is quite likely that you rejected these other gods without ever looking into their religions or reading their books. You simply absorbed the dominant faith in your home or in the society you grew up in.In the same way, the followers of all these other religions have chosen to reject God. You think their gods are imaginary, and they think your God is imaginary.\
In other words, each religious person on earth today arbitrarily rejects thousands of gods as imaginary, many of which he/she has never even heard of, and arbitrarily chooses to "believe" in one of them. The following quote from Stephen F. Roberts sums up the situation very nicely:
  • "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
A rational person rejects all human gods equally, because all of them are equally imaginary. How do we know that they are imaginary? Simply imagine that one of them is real. If one of these thousands of gods were actually real, then his followers would be experiencing real, undeniable benefits. These benefits would be obvious to everyone. The followers of a true god would pray, and their prayers would be answered. The followers of a true god would therefore live longer, have fewer diseases, have lots more money, etc. There would be thousands of statistical markers surrounding the followers of a true god.Everyone would notice all of these benefits, and they would gravitate toward this true god. And thus, over the course of several centuries, everyone would be aligned on the one true god. All the other false gods would have fallen by the wayside long ago, and there would be only one religion under the one true god.
Think about that, if it's not too much to ask.

you can't pull the egocentric card on me... everyone in this thread already knows its you... haha

thats not true at all... They're God is different from my God, but I don't think they are wrong, I still believe they will go to heaven, afterlife, reincarnated... etc. It's what they believe.

They believe in a different form of a God than I do but they still believe in a greater being.

The point I've been trying to make is that just because they believe in a different God than I does not mean they are wrong, they just have a different opinion of what God is... They still believe in a greater being and therefore a bigger picture of life....

I just get pissed off when people say they don't believe in God and that the earth just formed on its own because I can't understand how people think that things just formed, something must have made them form and that is why over 90% of the worlds population believes in a greater being and the rest just live for their selfish selves; it is them who need the most help.

i actually believe the exact opposite, that statement is even more ludicrous the second time i read it.... those are the "posers" of religion. ... true believer accept everyone, especially people of other faith...

sorry dub post - but thats what grinds my gears most about religion, the human distortion and hypocrasy involved.... just isn't worth the effort... live n let live.... don't bring your shit to my door step, and i won't bring mine to yours.

You may believe the opposite, but the contract carried when accepting Jesus in your life is to spread the word of God. Proselytism is one of the main tenants of Christian religions.

Yes, because your brother is apparently an extremely valid and well researched source with NO agenda whatsoever /sarcasm.

I asked a simple question, which I still have received no answer to.

Have you, or any other naysayer in this thread, ever approached the Holy Scriptures, in the translation of your choice, with any desire to objectively seek whether or not they are true?

The answer to this question is, more than likely, no, so therefore, there is no reason to expect that God's revelation would be made known to you. You hate him, and as it says

Ephesians 2

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2in

which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of

the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in

those who are disobedient. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions

Oh goody. Another cliched Atheist argument. Occam's Razor. I'm scared. That sounds sharp. I'm guessing you searched Wikipedia for that one too?

Here's an argument from Occam's Razor for you.

God exists, and created everything we see here.

That requires exactly one assumption, and reasonably satisfies every question I have.

Stop trying to act all sarcastic and above me when you clearly don't understand what you are talking about. God is not the simplest possible solution, it will NEVER be the simplest possible solution because it envokes the existence of a supernatural being.

This shit is philosophy 101.

For example, using your logic, i could say that the earth is held in orbit by an invisible string that is impossible for us to detect. Sounds a lot simpler than general relativity to me... it must be right!

Now you're getting into gradation of sin and a whole other theological argument which you clearly don't understand at all.

God is perfect. There are no gradations of perfect or imperfect.

God views all sin as imperfection, and therefore no sin can stand in His presence.

God also forgives all sin for those who are contrite and sincere and desire grace. They still have to live with the earthly consequences of that sin.

Who are you to say whether or not someone has truly repented? Do you want that job? Because if you do, then you need to judge yourself, your mom, your friends, whoever you are sleeping with currently (if anyone) and everyone you have ever known by one standard.

Perfect (life)

Imperfect (Death)

There is a reason God invented grace and freely offered it up.

Sorry i just can't help myself... i find it so amusing how you pretend to know what you're talking about.

Occam's razor clearly states that unfalsifiable theories should be rejected.

So if I am so stupid, why are you still here attempting to convince me and others that God does not exist if it will have no effect on either your or their souls/atmans/life forces for all of eternity?

It is really easy to continue to talk about how illogical I am and how stupid my theories are and how I must be a total complete retard, but the fact of the matter is that you cannot stop rebelling against the idea of a Creator, and more specifically, the Christian God.

Romans 1

18The wrath of God is

being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of

men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For

since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal

power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from

what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21For

although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave

thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts

were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24Therefore God gave

them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for

the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They

exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created

things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In

the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and

were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts

with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their

perversion.

You want to know what the wrath of God looks like? Look around. The wrath of God is you getting to do whatever you want and reaping the consequences, either in this life or the next.

I have all the proof I need. You can call me stupid. I can guarantee you that my major was a lot harder than yours, and that my GPA was a lot better, if you even bothered going to college. I am in the top 5% of the class of 2010 in the nation.

I don't bother challenging your intellect, because I am well aware that faith and intellect have absolutely no correlation. Jesus, who was God incarnate, was a carpenter, educated to less than a grade school level by today's standards. The fact of the matter is that you are fallen, sinful, and rebellious, and when God gives you strength and opportunity, you will either turn from that or you will not. It's that simple.

Goddamnit Zacman. Address my fucking posts. If you're not using the Tyndale translations you have no right to quote the bible. Modern bibles since the King James version have been steadily becoming more politicized. The most recent international version even went so far as the re-write several passages in Leviticus to suit their views. Don't fucking quote it.

I'll be happy to quote from any translation you'd like.

Would you like to show me where the NIV verses which I have specifically quoted differ in a theological and major sense from the Tyndale?

Fuck, well here's the link - http://www.av1611.org/biblecom.html
I suggest you look up more info on the differences between the Wycliffe and Tyndale versions of the bible. As well as the differences between the 7 popular editions, as well as the politicized versions (the most recent international is a great source - they changed some passages to include the term "homosexuality" lol).
The fact is, you are getting a perverted word of God until you read the original Latin transcriptions. By no accounts should we use scripture in these debates until you can translate directly from the correct sources.

So an idiot thought he was the son of God? Shocking.

What worries me is that the world is filled with sheep like you who are unwilling to change even in the face of undeniable logic. Every four years, the pea-brained American people elect another one of you idiots to the presidency. It's ridiculous; we have people who believe everything they are told leading millions of people.

But frankly, I don't see how you can be so blatantly close minded about your faith. I believe in the possibility of a God or supreme being that has the capability to manipulate matter. I don't see how you can still support a God that made us in HIS image or, created the world just for us. The Christian God is a petty, cruel being made for fictional stories, like the Bible. To actually believe in the concept of a God is completely different than subscribing to a belief structure.

Plenty of people have put forth objective evidence of the Bible's truth. You simply choose to ignore it.

Job stated long before the orbits of the planets or astronomy was understood that the Earth was "hung on nothing."

The Bible stated long before we understood blood and hemoglobin and the transport of oxygen throughout the body that "The life of the body is in the blood" Lev 17:11

Isiah 40:22

“It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants

are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and

spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”

Notice that long before it was proven, Bible believing Christians knew the earth was round.

Ecclesiastes 1:7

“All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; to the place

from which the rivers come, there they return again” (NKJV).

The water cycle, explained in poetic terms, long before science did so.

There is plenty of objective proof that God gave divine understanding to those willing to listen. Long before science could explain much of the world we live in, followers of God knew it because God revealed it to them.

I'm pretty sure roman and greek philosophers knew this before the christians "magically" discovered it.

Don't change the subject. There is no reputable evidence outside of the bible that some god exists, yet you believe in one anyways.

I'll say it again.

Where has the translation which I have chosen to employ changed a theological tenant involving Salvation or the deity of Christ or the ultimate authority of God?

You are arguing major versus minor doctrine.

Theologically speaking, there is NO difference between NIV, ESV, KJV, NKJV, and any one of the dozen or so other strict translations which you could throw out there.

You are arguing the difference between cool and neat. Not eternally saved or eternally damned.

LOL. You should really probably just go away.

You do realize that the Old Testament was written before the foundation of the Greek and Roman empires right?

Quoting again because this is obscenely retarded.

See Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Archimedes, and Pythagoras, etc etc etc. They had the knowledge to disprove religion before it even started. The fact that Rome was destroyed lead to a downfall in schooling and knowledge at the same time that christianity was forming.THe fact that many of their volumes of work were lost contributed to it's popularity. Our society would probably be more sophisticated now if we knew everything that all of the great minds knew back then.

I wasn't. Whoever I quoted in that post cursed at me and demanded that I answer his question, which was something to the effect of "you have no proof outside of the Bible that God exists.:"

I just posted Biblical text which is known to be scientifically accurate today, which predates the science which proved these things.

Job, through divine inspiration, stated that the earth was hung on nothing long before this was proven.

Solomon expressed the water cycle long before science demonstrated how it worked.

How is this changing the subject?

LOL actually I did.

How exactly do you justify citing a Christian source to "disprove" my Christian theories, BTW?
