Does it matter if God exists?

That in and of itself is a fallacy which I assume your education has taught you to believe.

Religion relies largely on historical record to support our claims.

If you are willing to keep an open mind on the subject, I would invite you to do some searching of your own on the historical nature of the scriptures versus other volumes and texts which you assume to be reliable historical records. I believe that you would be quite surprised.

Based on the number of original manuscripts and texts available, along with archaeological and cross correlation with other historical records, the Bible is the single most rigorously accurate historical record in existence.

Great question. Religion assumes the presence of a God that creates them, and Science says they come from somewhere else. The only difference in our theories is that Science has small amounts of data in the form of String Theory and certain areas of quantum mechanics that hint towards a bubble or brane theory. Proving where those universes or branes come from is a whole other story. So we come to a russian doll type block in our theories.
Either way, when we analyze OUR universe (simply to avoid complication), it seems that our information is slowly leading in the pro-science arena and away from the God theory. God may be applicable to our mother universe or any extension thereof, but for OUR universe, it seems God is not the cause.

Hard evidence and consistent patterns are never a fallacy. Historical *anecdotal* evidence (and a severe amount of embellishment) back up some parts of the Bible, but not the supra natural claims it makes. Heaven, Hell, Genesis, Eden, the Gospel of Eve, etc - all the parts that exist outside of the historical realm are never proven. God is never backed up.
Stories such as the Tower of Babel, Noah's Ark, and others can be corroborated with other historical sources, but that certainly does not lend credence to the rest of the Bible's claims.

Then why don't you just go away? I haven't seen you contribute anything remotely intellectual to the discussion.

Oh, and I forgot to address this from the fucked page:
Let's review the facts and make distinctions between hetero and homo relations:
Aids is consuming Africa. - Among Heterosexuals.1 in 5 Women in the US has a STD - Among Heterosexual Women.19 million new STD infections occur every year. - Among Homosexuals and HeterosexualsIn 2006 1,030,911.new cases of Chlamydia were reported. - Among heterosexuals and homosexuals. An average of 40,000 to 80,000 new cases of HIV are reported each year in theU.S - 25% among heterosexuals - 75% = [75% of homosexual black men, 25% other male homosexuals.]There are an estimated 1 million new cases of genital herpeseach year. Mostly in heterosexuals.More than 1 million American teenagers become pregnant each year – Heterosexual problemone of the highest rates of any western industrialized country. One in eight women ages 15 to 19 become pregnant each year. Among Heterosexuals.
Lesbians have the lowest STD rate of any category. Heterosexual Black Women are the fastest rising HIV rates, soon to overtake Homosexual men. Heterosexual Women still have the highest number of STD's, while Homosexual men have the most STD rates.
30,000,000 heterosexual men and women will die from AIDS in Africa this year.
It seems God is punishing the Hetero's for lack of knowledge about safe sex, than he is my "unnatural" relations.

I was gonna go away as implied by last post until you decided to be a jerk. I'm going to return the favor. And you shouldn't believe in God, the flying spaghetti monster is gonna send you to Hell for it.

Except that "natural relations" would be defined not only as non-homosexual behavior, but also as monogamous. If people were monogamous as God intended, the spread of STDs would be minimal to non-existent.

It seemed directed at me, so I addressed it as such - the difference between us. Even if monogamous is one of the "natural relations" - which by Biblical standards is complete bullshit; even you know that. It seems God thinks much higher of homosexuality than promiscuity as evidenced by his individual punishment of each.

It was directed at nobody? I have no idea of your sexual orientation, nor does it bear on a debate about the existence of God in any way, shape, or form.

And there is nowhere that the Bible approves of plural marriage. In fact, it is made clear in the New Testament that God intended for us to marry one woman.

Yes, there are passages and great men of the Bible who had multiple wives. Nowhere is it approved of.

Wherever God proscribed guidelines for plural marriage, it was with the understanding that it was wrong, but that He was going to offer guidelines anyway. Just as I'm sure lots of peoples' parents on NS have told them "if you're going to have sex with more than one person, at least wear a condom." The understanding is that it is wrong, but at least protect yourself.

God provides multiple examples of great men led astray (David and Solomon to name 2) by plural marriage. He is not OK with it. You're just regurgitating what you've heard in your life about the supposed "contradictions" in the Bible.

^^That's true. I was under the impression that these were true forms of marriage presented in the bible:
PolyganousLevirateSlave-MasterMonogamous + concubines (ala Solomon)POW marriageRapist and victim (as per Deut. 22:28-29)Monogamous.
But mostly these were presented as pre-New Covenant Mosaic law. If you want to make the distinction that's alright. We can focus on the New Testament.

pretty sure ZacMan should just give up at this point as Arabian has repeatedly berated him with nothing but great points
ZacMan just leave and walk away with what dignity you have left (if any) although you didnt give up, arabian just took you to school many, many times in this thread

i find the first half of your statement interesting. if man is accountable to god because he created us, then is he not accountable for all the destruction man has created because he created us? wouldn't it be extremely irresponsible, and imperfect should our superior being create a creature with the ability to destroy so much? does he not own any personal responsibility? guilt? remorse? further more, why should such a superior being forgive such destruction because someone purely works through the will of god, as you say you do? should someone like hitler or osama be forgiven because they committed their sins in the act of loving their god?(irregardless of their religious faith) be granted access into your "heaven" or be forgiven?

i think if you want to be agnostic, go for it, because no one can disprove a god creating the universe, as much as we can invest time into disproving the christian religion, and it's fallacies, it's indecisiveness throughout thousands of years, it's degradation of humanity.

the number of innocent victims of religion are greater than any war. children beaten to death in the name of god, to drive the evil spirit out. women and men stoned, and burned, and hanged, beaten, whipped. who gave you the authority to point the finger, the blame? who gave you the right? if god's will was so cruel, then perhaps he is not so perfect. unless then of course, you're willing to admit that man is merely an animal, with animalistic tendencies, much apparently like their own god.

Did I ever call for your fame? Why do we fight in your name? Is it really true that you're there? And do you ever answer my prayers? We are calling for change, so why don't you come back again? Why do you spread love uneven? This is not what I believe in.

ill only believe if heaven has pow everyday but heaven and god are for adults who cant face life and death so they waste half thier life praying

a wizard on a cloud did not snap his fingers one day and create the known universe, humans evolved over billions of years from single cell organisms and bacteria, like family guy says look at the hubble telescope, endless pictures of deep space and other galaxys but not one picture of a guy on a cloud making planets out of nothing, simply put god = fake, jesus ( if he were actualy real) = the original chris angel mind freak

Too bad the rest of the world has to fight with guns when in disagreement about religion instead of going onto newschoolers and solving it in a well thought out and friendly manner....

Anyways the argument is stupid now. Oh wait it always was. When was the last time you changed your religion based on some guy posting on the internet and this guy compelely bashs your current belief? Probably never. This thread needs to be titled " Official: people who have a stick up their ass, discuss religion here". Believe what you want but have alittle respect in your arguments for the opposing view if you don't want your point invalidiated instantly.

Everything has an initial cause and Matter cannot create itself. The Big Bang must have had an initial cause to create the matter/particles for it to take place. Therefore, since matter/energy cannot create itself, God must have been the initial cause to create it.

it only matters to those who truly believe in it, and those who devout their lives get "rewarded". I know that in many of our lives we don't find the time or the need for God, but I found that through honest fellowship and friendship people do maintain a relationship. It's all good in my opinion, meaning you've got to believe in what works best for you as an individual and as a community.
