Does it matter if God exists?

Does it matter if God exists? As someone who is 99% atheist, if I was wrong, would it matter?
Let's say there is a supremely powerful being who created the universe, would I want to worship it? It created a whole host of misery and based a lot of the experience of life from the simplest organism to humans on pain, suffering and loss.
Let's take the example that happens every day of a baby born and never know anything than a few brief minutes of struggling and gasping for air. Why would I want to praise the being responsible for that? Why should I get on my knees to a monster capable of doing something like that. Seriously, if this supreme being exists, I'm not impressed and not going to worship it. The main reason that I can see for someone worshipping god is to curry some kind of favor in an imaginary afterlife, but that's a bit like being a collaborator in my view.
Let's say I'm just not smart enough to understand the supreme being's plan, and God is really cool, but the only way it can make the universe work is by suffocating babies. Why would it want to need to be worshipped? How up it's own ass would it have to be to want people to spend days clapping hands and singing songs to it?
Has God made much effort to show us it exists? As soon as we got technology, God stopped making personal appearances. It's made it clear that it's not interested in us any more, all the holy books were written long before video cameras were invented. The miracles dried up long ago, if God really wanted worshippers he could make a single appearance on Oprah and convert billions of people in one fell swoop. Why doesn't it do this? Perhaps it's because it's just not interested any more and really would rather we all forgot about it.
Does it matter if god exists? Is there any point in worshipping it if it does? Discuss.

It's a matter of personal opinion.

I have two non-curable diseases that can make life very scary and uncertain at times. I had surgery two months ago to remove a large tumor from my back and will be having another in a week to remove another one. Thinking about dying and going to heaven and being there forever scares me, but it also scares me knowing I might leave this world too early and never see anyone I love again.

When my doctors can't heal me, and my boyfriends hugs can't take away the fear, and my parents can't take away the pain, sometimes the only thing I have left is to turn to God... and I find peace in that.

I think what matters is not if he exists or not, it's if we are happy and find comfort in what we all personally believe.

Sorry that was real deep.

I couldn't find comfort in something I know for sure is completely false.

also, INB4 JESUS COMES BACK

this.

Religion has always been created and based around the principal of the unknown. It was meant to provide an answer to questions that the people of the time could not understand, figure out, or wrap their head around. Simple questions, such as where do you go after you die, how did we get here, how should we act, etc. Look at all the civilizations: the egyptians, the jews, the mayan, the christians, the arabic, all of them had their gods who all answered those questions, all of them based their life around their own interpretations of this all being figure, yet none of them had the same story. If there really was a god, don't you think that all these people would have encountered him the same way? Well now that the human race has become advanced enough to figure out many of the answers that religion was made to mask, there is no longer a need for it.

after the hrs i've worked recently, I thought i'd give something back... well, at least provide some beer tokens to the NS "Gods" (see what i did there....)

Plus - it's how i roll...

It is also a methodology for answering questions that cannot (yet) be answered by science...

truth: how is the world going to end is definitely another big think (2012?!??!!?)

By the way we are all athiests when it comes to 99% of the gods humanity has ever believed in, some of us just take it one god further.

Overpopulation, resources depleted, global concrete jungle, no animals, no food source

see me in X years and tell me I was right

lololololoo whoops0

not that it matters, but your name spells "thegame" wrong

You're not going to change anyone's opinions over the internet. These threads always turn into a shitstorm or a bunch of dudes quoting random authors and philosophers that all say the same thing. What's the point?

Can gaurantee the answer will be something along the lines of .....

"Without bad in the world, there can be no good to come out of it...." etc etc etc

meh, i dont think it really does matter if he exists or not. I am a very deist person, god doesn't have interference with our lives, but I do believe in him.

I don't believe in God and have never read the bible or gone to church, but I still celebrate Christmas. Is that 99% atheist?

There is no way for science to ever have a say on what happened before our universe existed, or what happens outside the boundaries of our universe, so you can believe whatever the fuck you want in regards to that... Just as long as you realize that whatever "supreme being" you want to imagine lives outside the universe has absolutely no say in the everyday goings-on within the universe.

Here's a thought: "Atheistic" and "Anti-theistic" societies have consistently been some of the most violent and bloodthirsty nations in history.

Exactry.

Why are all these threads about god? if your atheist and you want to disprove god, wouldnt disproving jesus be the first logical point to smash? Or maybe it just easier to argue god

If he does exist, shouldn't you be thankful that he gave you life at all? Even if not everything around you is perfect, at least you're here.

first of all your just repost

and there are sightings of mary and god take fatima portugal for example

and why are all of you guys fighting bout religion let people believe what they want its their religion i am catholic but im not trying to change an athiest to be catholic
