Whats up guys so im looking for thoughts on diesel pick ups. I love them to death but im wondering what others think. specifically powerstroke and duramax

Get a manual if you can with the 7.3, you'll go through 3-4 auto trannys in the life of the engine. 12v cummins over 24v but the 24v is a nicer ride and newer.
Stay away from the. 6.0 and 6.4 unless the headstuds have been done along with a egr/dpf delete. They can be made into good reliable motors but it's not cheap.
Both the new 6.7 powerstroke and 6.7 cummins look like good motors. I'd go cummins for the manual trans but that's personal preference. Both should have dpf egr deletes done to them, it'll only improve the health and milage of your engine.
Be aware that because of new epa regulations and the equipment installed to pass them the newer diesels are terrible on fuel compared to the old 7.3 and 5.9 (which were in the low 20mpg range.) The 6.4 gets low teens before a dpf/egr delete.
Don't buy a diesel unless you need it. They are big motors designed to haul heavy loads not haul around your groceries.

If I had to get a truck (that wasn't a Toyota) right now, it'd probably go with a Dodge.

The 90% figure you had I found and wasn't that they are 90% cleaner than gas but that they are up to 90% cleaner than older diesel engines.

The Ford 6.0L diesel blows, fun far far away from it.
The Ford 6.4L in the newer trucks is a lot better than the 6.0L, more refined, quieter, easy can match the 7.3Ls power numbers and is almost as reliable as it when you delete some of the emmision and EGR stuff.

The 6 was an engine made by international that ford, nor international tested properly resulting in most of their headgaskets exploding. After you rebuild a 6 properly, they're regarded as one of the most bombproof engines around.
international still uses the exact same 6l with a beefed up head (had to be done anyways) in industrial and commercial vehicles, the 6.4 was garbage.
