CU Boulder Greek life

Not really as I said before I've never been to a frat that doesn't let people in. all frats either make you pay or come in with a shit load of girls. Again I really don't care because I that kid was talking shit after I told him to stop. We were leaving anyway and he kept tuning his mouth. And yes I like almost all the frats at all the schools I've been to except for cu. Again I don't know why you would deal with O you're not allowed in this is our house, frat broa only. when you can just go to any open house party off-campus with no problem.

I'm not the biggest frat fan but I do believe this is true, I got a friend back home that is in a frat and he loves it, but I've also heard of some not so good stuff from stuff around here, and frat kids aren't normally the kind of people I hang out with anyways. It differs greatly based on what frat and where. And to you frat kids, you can't say that every frat is just like yours. The blanket statement that people who aren't fans of frats is just as bad as you saying all frats are awesome.

Give rush a try. I'm a beta at university of Idaho and its awesome. There are really awesome guys in my house. We are very involved in a lot of clubs and the last 2 asb vice presidents have been in my house. Its a great choice if you want to be involved on campus.

some advice I have...

dont let anyone talk you in/out of rushing. make your own choice.

dont join a house because they party a lot. those kids are probably fuck ups. Id look at one that gets good grades but can still have a good time.

you want to be able to see yourself not only being friends with, but also being able to live with the people in that house.

Get to know the other people that are rushing. you will spend a majority of your time hanging with your pledge class, so make sure you like them.

"colorado seems like a sweet place except for the people that go there because it seems like a sweet place making it no longer a sweet place..." -B-runge

From Canada I watched this documentary on Frats once and this is now what I think of them. Have they changed?

this, seeing the frats at CU Boulder I can agree.

Just walking down the hill past a house, it was 3:30 (now, i don't care if you're drinking and partying at 3:30 PM, im all for that), but if it is you, a bunch of guys in wife beaters and polos on the roof, with 1 girl, you should not be yelling and bragging to people walking by about how "dope" your party is. just sayin

Because apparently at CU you can only get in if you're in another frat. Therefore you have to pay a frat to get into a frat party.

Yup. Soo far from the stereotypical frat bro, as evidenced by this stunningly brilliant post. Take a lap, freshman.

im talking about frat partys, acourning to people in this thread you can only get in to a frat party at cu if your in another frat. ive never been to any other school like that, and with that "rule" you'er only going to meet other kids who are also in frats. therefore you pay money to hang out with other kids who pay money.

this thread sucks.

OP: if you're curious just rush as many houses as possible to get a feel for them and the system as a whole.

if you decided you like it and you get a bid to a house you like, go for it. pledging and active life is an awesome experience; plus it puts you in a great spot to get involved with your school, philanthropy, leadership, sports, whatever really.

if you don't enjoy rush or get a bid to a house you like then I'm sure you'll still manage to make friends, party, and find work.

TL/DR: rush, make up your own mind, no regrets.

I think this should be the takeaway for everyone in this thread. It's so different at every school, figure it out yourself

I think that may be true for the front range/I-70 corridor, but down here in the San Juans it's great! (except for some of the people, which may apply to the B-Runge quote above)

I trust that you are correct; Colorado seems rad place skiing notwithstanding. There's just something about that fast food ski regalia inhabited largely by broken rich people that gets on my nerves.

I'm in a fraternity at CU Boulder. I currently live in the house. Please PM me with any questions you might have, I would be glad to talk about it with you.

I don't go to Boulder, but Theta Xi (the fraternity I'm in) has a chapter there (Alpha Eta) and supposedly they're the "action sports" fraternity at CU. I'm sure you'll always have guys in the house that are itching to head to the hill and you'll have tons of common interests. Here's their most recent rush video for Fall 2012. Also, if you've got any questions on Greek life let me know, I'm very involved in my chapter and can give you many great reasons on why you should strongly consider rushing.

"far easier access to attractive girls(in the case of most large schools)

If you dont know anyyone at the school it provides an easy venue to meet and become friends with a whole bunch of guys who have similar interests to you. It was a helluva lot easier meeting jockish people in frats than it was in my engineering classes.

A large thing is a sense of comraderie that you lose when team sports end.

Depends on the school, but the greek party scene is normally far, far better."

Seriously??? You might be one of the most shallow people ever. Life isn't about getting effed up and partying. Get real.

TO OP: Move to Denver, go to DU, (especially because if it's your B.A. then employers don't care where you go.) Come party with some real people in a real city downtown.

its boulder you don't need to be in a frat to party 7 days a week. (there are other schools where you do need to be in a frat to party) i don't even go there and i could always find a house party.

you obviously did not read the more previous post. Partying isn't all of life. Plus, Denver is way more fun to live in.

from someone who lived in breck for 2 years im going to say you are wrong. both are sick places, but i'd pick boulder Denver does have a sweet skate park though.

Jank_SKI- thinks i haven't spent time in the Denver Area

Jank_SKI- talks about zzzskizzz not living in the Denver area, yet hasn't lived in the boulder area.

zzzskizzz- has spent about = time in both areas and based an answer off his experiences.

and before you say boulder area is Denver area that wasn't my point. my point is when ive gone to cu ive had much better times then when i went out to bars/friends houses in Denver.

False dude get real man. You're really proving that awesome edumacation from CU. Boulder sucks, I have plenty of friends that go there, and obviously you have not lived a real life? For anyone under the age of thirty Denver is a way better option. Boulder is full of stupid 30+ wannabe yuppies. Get with the program... College party life ended long ago. Lol
