CU Boulder Greek life

Read the whole thread, this shit is hilarious. You guys sound more butt hurt than the pledges after initiation.. if you know what I mean..

Always fun to hear geeds ranting on subjects about which they have absolutely no knowledge.

i have a friend in Alpha Chi Rho binghamton, and that frat is awesome ive even backed them up in fights, and there partys are awesome as well. but thats where you do the partying in binghamton in boulder idk why you would need to be in a frat its one of the biggest party schools in the usa.

You are geeds.

Also how is that any different than you calling us frat bros and douches?

respect is a two way street my friend.

Go ahead and rush. There's no harm in it. You even get free food and drinks

If you like it, then pledge a frat. If you don't, you don't have to join. You can quit a fraternity at any time if you decide you don't like it.

You do get free party frats Host of events with other Frats. And I'm not saying this happens with all people in frats but my friends frat has an alumni who owns his own law firm in nyc and gave a couple of the guys internships over the summer. Again that's not all frats tho

hahaha i just looked over your profile, clearly a gay frat boy. I bet you like sticking the paddle up your ass.

70 guys that would do anything to help you out including but not limited to: jumping on grenades(in the figurative sense), giving your drunk as rides home, and bailing your ass out of jail. Partying with sorority girls, cool philanthropy opportunities, awesome alumni coming back and being rad(this includes things like going to Nike HQ and hitting up the employee store). Real world connections that can help you get a job after college, and more..

You left out lots of gay buttsex. Plus sorority girls aren't all that great. Usually dumb as fuck.

Do you really think it's just coincidence that such a high percentage of successful people were fraternity members?

You really can't underestimate the value of networking. It makes a world of difference in helping you find jobs and internships. Plus, living in a fraternity means you live with a bunch of guys who've already taken the classes you're currently in so that you can always get homework and study help.

Of course you can always go to professor/TA office hours to get help, but nobody really wants to do that. If you have a homework assignment due in a couple hours and you need help on a problem, do you really want to email the professor and hope he responds before the deadline, or do you want to walk down the hall and get help from the brother who took the class last semester?

It's all about ease. Of course, you could do everything a fraternity does on your own, but it's going to be a lot harder. You can network, find parties, get study help, and find cheap housing all on your own, but it's not going to be as easy. Saying you could do all those things without being in a frat is like saying you can go powder skiing without fat skis. Of course you can, but it's not going to be as easy or as fun.

You guys are so fuckin butthurt. I go to the largest greek school in the nation, I have never heard such blatant hate for no reason. What makes all of you so much better then fraternity men? I bet $100 every kid in this thread could find a house where theyd befriend every single member and be happy in. Theres houses with 19 kids who are all chill and theres top houses with 90+ kids who are all just as cool when you get to know them. Get over yourselves and stop making such blanket statements.

idk why but i feel like this is really relevant to frats
index.php

Are you really that naive, You realize most people who aren't in frats don't like them. I've said it in other threads I've been to frats that have kicked the shit out of me, and I've been to frats were they invited me to play kickball.

just gonna stop you there.

here is his story about getting the shit kicked out of him:

he was visiting boulder and tried go get into a frat when he had girls with him. they wouldnt let him in, and called him a "flat brim fag" (unnecessary but just words). he then punched the guy working at the door, and other brothers came and kicked the shit out of him

seriously though, its your fault. just because frats are known for parties doesnt mean that they have to let people in, even with girls. its their house where they live, they have complete say over who gets in. and im guessing there was an argument that led to him calling you a fag. but you made it physical and brought that upon you.

how is that any different than a house party with people not associated with a fraternity? if you tried to get into a random house party, they dont have to let you in, no matter how many girls you have with you. and if you punched the person at the door, im sure all of his friends would kick the shit out of you.

far easier access to attractive girls(in the case of most large schools)

If you dont know anyyone at the school it provides an easy venue to meet and become friends with a whole bunch of guys who have similar interests to you. It was a helluva lot easier meeting jockish people in frats than it was in my engineering classes.

A large thing is a sense of comraderie that you lose when team sports end.

Depends on the school, but the greek party scene is normally far, far better.

greek housing is normally right next to campus, while most non greeks live off campus and have to commute 15-30 minutes by bus etc

Those are some real tangible benefits that greek life provided me that i wouldnt have had otherwise.

Anything else i can help you with?

I've never been to a house party in Boulder where they say stop you can't come in all the houses there are open house party. The fact that your frat wouldn't let me in even though I was with five other girls is ridiculous. The girls all turned around and said let him in or were all leaving The dude said fine fuck you you stupid bitches I'm not letting this flat brim faggot in my house. I then said if you fucking call one of these girls a bitch in front of me again I'm gonna knock you the fuck out. I guess he thought I was bluffing because I knocked his ass out. However right after he hit the ground four of his brothers jumped over his unconscious body to come fight me. I got about two good punches on two people and then I kind of curled up into a ball as they just kicked me.

so you suckerpunched a guy and then got your ass kicked. maybe you should look into making some male friends so someone has your back in a situation like that...or do get along much better with females?

either way, you were in the wrong. dont go hitting someone because of words they said. would you rather have had felony assault charges, or an asskicking? sounds like the frat did you a favor by just beating your ass instead of doing nothing other than having you arrested.

and the girls you brought were probably busted, so no shit they werent getting in(pics to prove im wrong). dont ever expect to be let into a party where you dont know anyone. Lesson learned, huh?

I like how butthurt a lot of people are towards frats. Even though 95% of them are stereotypical meat heads who use affiliation to compensate for their shitty personality, there are a lot of people in the greek realm who aren't like that at all. They're still douches, only they're friendly douches.

What you should be more worried about is living in Colorado. That place sucks.

I actually agree with this.

I'm in a fraternity at a school where 60% of its student body is Greek, which if you don't know is a huge number. It doesn't really bother me so many NSers are so anti-frat. As someone said earlier, most of their interactions with fraternities is probably them getting kicked out.

Most of you have no reason for hating Greek life, you're just jumping on the bandwagon. Did you notice that all of us that are in fraternities love it and have legitimate reasons that it benefits us?

That being said, Greek life totally varies from school to school. Being in a frat at Boulder would be totally different than where I go to school. There are definitely a ton of douchebags in the Greek system, but you should really check it out before you stereotype all of us.

There's such Greek hate on NS, it's funny.

The block quote was from a satire article that appeared in the Georgetown Heckler in like 2004, everyone always takes it at face value.

So much blatant hate going on in here...from dickheads who clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

Its cool when all you know about fraternity life comes from Animal House and Jimmy Tatro videos, even though they are hilarious.

I dress pretty preppy, does that make me a douchebag? I'm probably the furthest thing from the stereotypical "frat bro" that's being shit on in this thread, so these blanket statements are fucking hilarious to me.

Youre all fucking retards, have fun applying for that job in sagged jeans in a tall tee you degenerates.

What ever helps you sleep at night. If I tell you not to say something or I will knock you the fuck out then you say it it's not a sucker punch. Also the girls were not busted (one was) they were already let in to the house and I was stopped in the group when I tried to come in. The frats at cu are filled with douche bags and little bitches. At least I like the frats in Binghamton. Took 10 of you at cu to take me out And even after 10 of you tried to beat the shit out of me you didn't even put me in the hospital which shows how big a bitch you guys are.

i graduated from CU a few years ago, and this guy has the most accurate advice I've seen in the thread.

You can choose to join a frat, or not, and either way you'll still have a huge choice of things to do and people to meet. I did not join one, but I had quite a few friends who were in frats and they were cool enough. Lots of other guys I met in frats weren't my cup of tea but they were still nice people.

To each their own, check them out and see what you think. Maybe it's for you, maybe not.

I visited a buddy at CU over feb break. We went to some house parties and then a frat house where we were let in....some of the biggest douchebags I have ever seen were in that frat house. They were all just stuck up cali kids.

I joined a sorority my 3rd of 5 years of college. So I was active 3 years (I went to a school where only 21% graduate in 4 years, so yeah...).

I went into uni thinking sororities and fraternities were awful. Then it so happened that I started dating a guy in a fraternity and after learning about it thought it wasn't so bad. Second year I had pretty solid friends but was still hanging out with the same guys even though I was no longer dating the one fellow. My roommate was dating a guy in another fraternity. Everyone got along. It was great.

Third year, I figured why not see what the sororities were about. After going through rush and realizing the ladies I saw the most around campus and at events and in clubs and so forth were all greek, I realized I was pretty wrong about the entire image.

Joined Chi Omega and it was the best decision I made in college in regards to my non academic life.

Of course every university is different, every fraternity is different. My school was very heavy on philanthropy and diversity. My cousin's experience at ASU was more party party party. I stayed at a XO house in Nebraska and it was all about being active on campus.

Every group has its own personality. Perhaps some you really are paying for friends. My experience though is if there is housing available, you pay less than you would in the dorms and the costs pretty much equal out. If housing isn't available your dues are often less and $50 a month is a small amount to pay considering the amount of food at all events and tshirts and activities and room fees. Just having a network to share books and notes made the $50 worth it. Once I joined the sorority I don't think I purchased another book unless it was for my major (which only had 27 people in it).

hahhaahhahahahahhahahhahahha

So zzzskierzzz, youre telling me you hate frats because: You felt entitled to go in to their private residence and consume their personal alcohol and mingle with their guests, then got the shit beat out of you for attacking one of their members?

But seriously your argument is so stupid it hurts. Thats like me trying to attend a party at one of the african american culture houses on campus, getting told no at the door, hitting one of them and getting my ass beat. Then saying that I hate all black people because they suck so fuckin much.
