College acceptance thread 2012/13

It was a matter of time spent on the essays. For pomona and stanford, I put a ton of effort into the essays.

For Colorado college, I had a combination of apathy and cockiness, and so I hastily wrote the supplemental essays.

not to bring this back up again, but this is actually the truth (sort of).

many schools, private and public, have reputations for giving significantly higher graduating grades then their students deserve. I've heard that many university admission offices try to keep updated lists of what schools are known to do this so they can correct for it.

I go to a private school and I have seen this personally, it's not fair. The teachers will find out what school/program a kid wants to get into and from there will boost the marks to help them achieve their goals. I have also seen kids go into parent-teacher interviews and get higher marks and it makes me sick. This year there has been 2 instances where I have seen kids who I do better than regularly on assignments get higher grades than me on their report cards for their university applications. Hell our school guidance counsellor will even give kids am extra 1-2% if they don't make the cutoff grades for their program. It drives me nuts.

I went to a private school and what I noticed more than anything is that the school looks out for fac brats more than anyone else. Youll notice them getting into higher ranked schools than students you know to be similar in ranking to them. That drives me nuts.

It also depends on what things the school cares the most about. Every school puts a different amount of weight in test scores, essays, extracurriculars, course load, public vs. privatre education, class rank, etc.

Agreed, but the only things that i thought were sub-par on my applications where I got rejected was my essays, and I showed less interest in those schools (not requesting interviews, not visiting campus, not sending extra stuff, etc)

Just found out today I got full ride from Oregon plus free housing and books and supplies. Sounds pretty good to me

Yeah it's a thing. I know a few other people going full ride to colleges. I have a 4.5 gpa and got a 31 on my act, 1860 on my sat. It was academic not athletic

Same score on sat my nigga. I'm thinking its because tuition is overall lower in canada so scholarships are lower

It depends on the school for gpa . Some grade weighting systems are different , like the scale is out of 5, or 13

Final Tally a little late

Accepted: University of the Pacific, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UCLA, UC Berkeley, NYU

Rejected: Harvard, Princeton

Trying to figure out between SD, LA, and Berkeley...leaning more toward LA and Berkeley.

Every one is listing such big name schools:/ I am just looking but quest university seems soooooo cool, willamet, Westminster, and McDainel

Sent my deposit to University of Minnesota & will be studying @ Carlson School of Management weee

I have heard this. Also - i live in denver now and whats the drive to breck and key from boulder vs denver

When I visited boulder they said they have a ski club and if you join it they bus you up to a different mountain each weekend

not yet, the only two places I haven't been accepted to yet are UBC and McGill. Already got into Queen's, McMaster, Dalhousie, University of Alberta all with scholarships

Both my parents went there you better like ice hockey and cold ass winters. And getting there is a little bitch because of the lack of airports in the area. But it's a pretty darn good school. My parents loved it
