hmmm. not so sure youd want a straight rail on the side of a jump especially not nicks, that all just sounds like some major ass carnage to me..BUT thats definatly a dope Idea.
Actually I the best parks have several big tables in a row with jump/rail options.
Big kicker for the jump, smaller mellow kicker for the jibs.....generally translates into true slopestlye.
Personally, I think the roo could have much more flow to the jumps. The bottom two are perfect, but the top three are SO easy to over shoot. That run has such perfect pitch to support a solid four pack with flow (landing switch and straight two carves into the next switch etc)
Not hating on something I love, just thinking it could be better.
Dont you think some of those jibs could be more creatively used?
yea i was at breck all year last year. Alpine is built so well but for a place light on rails/boxes compared to others, I think we could make better use of all those flat boxes then just having four striaght ones..
Jonahs man, all props dood.....this is just a conversation ya know?
I like where your heads at on this idea. I really do think it should be considered, although I don't know about landing on the down box unless it was a closed sesh. It just seems like it would be a magnet to PWN gapers.
C- rail will get a new set up (again). It's not really shorter than it used to be, we just cut those silly ends off. We made it to be more like a c-bow but we can try to make it a flat c.
Yo props jonahs. my spleen and I are looking forward to riding again. Also what do you need for credentials to set something up. And Im actually serious
Hope I answered all your questions and/or ideas. The park is buried again. We have tried to keep up but now it seems like were drowning in snow. Every night is a dig out session instead of building. We will rebuild. Unfortunately the roo will probably close May 1st so there is not much time left. I'm hoping to put out a new layout for the ridge and the roo but it seems that when we finish we will be tearing it down. Hopefully we get some spring riding soon.
The new hip is siiiick. I think you can go 100' if you had the balls.
yeah thanks for answering all that, but may 1 is like in three weeks, it won't even have stopped snowing by then, this is whack. I'ma go to the management office and wreck some shit right quick here.
May 1st is when they always close everything but Summit. It sucks that we didn't get any sunshine but the volume of skiers goes down alot after Easter. IF the demand was high enough they might consider one or two more weeks but our projected closing date is May 21st. So probably not.
So you can close the chair and keep the roo run open can't you. I mean any one who actaully knows how to hit the features you build, ie not gapers, will know how to get to the park from the summit chair. If anything this would be a major plus to close the chair but keep the park built. It would keep all of the gapers out. Although I'm sure there is some kind of corporate restriction on building jumps after that date.....that would be our luck with a year like this.
oh man all i did was worry these whole last two months that this was gonna happen! I loved all the snow, don't get me wrong, but MAN, there is nothing more fun than spring park... may 1st is too too soooooon!
it's just so ironic that during this whole season of storms we were like "yes, we'll be able to have spring riding for SO long" and then in reality the park still closes the same time, no matter HOW much snow there is left. please tell me that as a park builder who makes some SICK SHIT and seems to have a lot of pride in his work, aren't you a little pissed about this too?
Don't get too down guys. There is still three weeks left. Even though roo will be done, I'm hoping this will give us the opportunity to show the park belongs on a main run. Not just on a short side run. I'm still hoping to do something cool under Summit.
Also, we are staying open longer than most. Northstar, Sierra, Sugarbowl and the rest will close up way sooner than us.
^fair enough man. i don't want to bite the hand that feeds, i'm just frustrated by the management i guess. looking forward to the last few weeks on roo and then whatever you can dish up under summit. thanks.
yeah thanks johnas, i think i'm gonna try to write a letter or something, we've needed a spring park off of summit for a long time so maybe this will be the year to do it, i guess we'll have to play it by ear, pray for sun everybody.
Alright, so the idea of a park off summit has my brain on overdrive. Alright...picture this...First off - groom the face. Its possible, they did it like two or three years ago. Next build a giant lip like 30 feet back from the face. Then youd have all of wolverine to get speed, and it would be impossible to overshoot. Just kidding. But seriously though...
i had a dream they did that in estelle bowl , like an actual dream where i was asleep and what not, i remember jumping then falling for like 200 feet but only beeing 3 feet off the ground for 80 % of my airtime because of the slope, it was a dope dream. Even in my dream i crashed....
Basically after may 1st it's only jibs on the ridge and no jumps. The only way to hit a jump is to be part of filming crew because last year they had some sweet jumps set up but they were closed to the public.
alright so im pushing for a cat to be put under the last hit on nicks so we can film, il make a list of riders and photoshop some legit credintials and see if any of the big shot pros in tahoe want to play, would be dope to jump a cat.
ahhhhh! i just got back from bachelor and i want to apply my new ish at alpine. we gotta get more footy! and i am fuckin ready for a sick alpine park! JEA!
not to be a jerk...but my spring last year was better spent at squaw (pipe, rails, boxes, nice jumps, etc.)...maybe jonas can let the management know that they lost one spring pass from me.
We will have stuff off summit until we close. Don't worry, it'll be good.
Also, I haven't been to Squaw lately but I've heard from a reliable source that their park stinks. I don't think you'll get too much more effort over there.
^^ nice, stuff off summit is the shit. its like, you will be sking next year and be like, 'wait, they put a jump here?' i remeber the 5 pack down red trail, it was off the chain. high speed access jumps, and put a cat under one, we wont hit it.
