Here is an amazing 45min documentary made by National Geographic. It shows and explain in details what happen shortly before, during and after the Hiroshima atomic blast. If you're a little bit intersted in history, nuclear power or the 2nd world war, I highly recommend this piece of work. Lots of original footage of the bomb, the blast, the after shock and some exlusive images released just for this film.

I found it extremly moving to be honest. Thousand of people lived hell as real as it get and thanks for this docu, we're able to understand and realize a tiny bit of what they felt on August 6, 1945.

Here it is:

threads, i actually went to Hiroshima last year and visited the memorial museum .Super cool place but it was really awkward when there was a school group walking around doing surveys and one of questions I was asked was "How would you like it if i did this to your country".

There was a foreign exchange student from Hiroshima that went to my school. She lost her great grandpa in the explosion....... I live in Los Alamos so it was kinda awkward.

talk an atomic amount of shit, get an atomic amount of hit. Seriously though, you should have said that your country would have surrendered when it was obvious there was no way to possibly win, and had been warned of a catastrophic weapon that could be used on your country.

here comes a fun shitstorm. But thanks for the video, i really dig vids about the cold war, arms race, secret technology stuff.

You would come up as a massive jerk if this is your answer.

If I was there, in front of their memorial, in Hiroshima, I would say nothing and walk away. Because despite all the reasons, good or not, wich pushed the US to use the bomb, tens of thousand of people died within seconds at that very place; and those were innocent people. So yeah just show some respect by saying nothing and walking away.

this needs to be seen. coming from a partially japanese family, we often talk about hiroshima, but i dont think many peopole understand.

the japanese have a mentality where they do not complain, or share their pain with anyone, and i feel this has happened with hiroshima. please share this, it should not go unnoticed.

i would be interested to know the civilians view of the war. Were they gung-ho about it and 100% backing the emperor and his views?

how complicit were the citizens with the regime, and how did they contribute to the war machine?

I dont hear much information about this, i dont know if its because this kind of info was so controlled, or what.

Japanese are proud and strong people. The way they deal with adversity is unique, unmatched and force the respect.

The way they deal with the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear plant disaster is an other testament to their abilities.

I thought I understood the power from that bomb and the destruction.
WOW that really put things into perspective

If you dont have the time to check out the whole movie you should at least watch a few minutes after minute 29. 22:00-24:14 is about the shock wave and is pretty interesting as well

Oh and as for the contro- I ask myself this.... Pearl Harbor (I don't care what anyone says) was a legitimate act of war, you got proper fucked. The grey area is if you ask yourself was the use of the atomic bomb on a civilian population a legitimate act of war? I don't know the answer or have an opinion really, would just hope that it never happens again, anywhere.

I hope you get hit by a fucking semi truck on the freeway and the biggest piece they can find is your pinky.

Definitely coming back to watch this at a time when I am not consumed with writing papers on completely pointless irrelevant subject matter that will serve me no purpose post-graduation.

hey thats awesome, glad she's alright. my g-pas brother was killed on iwo, in a war that the japaneses started. My best friends gma who lives with them, has no right foot, because the japanese hacked it off when they occupied the philipines.

I firmly believed that the bomb being dropped on japan was absolutely warranted, and i am frankly tired of people thinking america was, and is a monster for doing it. Its a tradgedy that it had to to be dropped, but there was a damn good reason for it being dropped.

Thank you so much for sharing this video, such a powerful and moving documentary. Everyone needs to see this at some point, I am so totally moved from watching this.

this video or any other video will never show how terrifying that day really was. my respect to any body who went through that.

Seen a decent amount of stuff on it. Find it fascinating.

Still really can't believe their are ignorant asshats on this planet that try to justify killing a whole shit ton of civilians. I guess if you're told something for long enough you believe it?
