2011 Tour de France

fuck yea

HTC is retarded at the moment the lead-out train is horrible compared to past, Cav had to come out of nowhere for that one.

And holy shit I've never seen so many crashes in one stage.

To be honest I did too. I got a good laugh when he threw his bike in the ditch, the man is not having a good Tour so far aha.

It was odd that Farrar was nowhere to be seen though he would have given a good battle but undoubtedly Cavendish has the fastest acceleration/speed on flats in the Peleton. Kinda gay how he was cut off in the half-way sprint, I thought something should have been done about that.

I would like to be mad about him getting cut off, but that is just racing. I don't think (who was it Gilbert?) cut him off on purpose, he was making his own move and going left. It happens all the time. That being said, Cav is a boss. And I absolutely loved it when Cav and Thor were leaning on eachother....in the 3rd stage sprint??

Horner, Boonen, Wiggins out, what a shame. Evans looks so strong compared to Contador, but the most impressive thing is Thor. Thor Hushovd is gonna win the Tour de France.

wait for a mountain stage before you make a call like that chief. So took the gc through a bunch of flat stages, thor can't climb nearly well enough to be a contender. pretty sure its down to andy or cadel. andy's such a stong rider, but cadel's been kicking ass and has way better support.

It was a joke man I was just pointing out how strong Thor was riding obviously he can't survive in the Pyrenees. And I agree Cadel seems super confident but both Shlecks look as good as ever.

wow hoogerland is still riding, this guy is absolutely amazing, truly a great character.

if any of you missed it this is his stage 9 crash

the car was trying to avoid the tree but it was a TV car, not a team car, despite the many rules and regulations the driver had NOT been properly trained to drive with the cyclists and was also specifically told NOT to overtake the pelaton group. The driver, thankfully, has been banned from the tour.

this is what happened, he literally flew into the barbed wire fence to his right, sorry if its a bit graphic...

he finished the race with those wounds and won the spotted climber jersey, an absolute beast.

he ended up with 33 stitches in his leg and is still riding on one of the most gruelling tours so far.

i cannot get over how amazing he is.

Frank Schleck looking good for the General Classification, and Cav looking good for the Green Jersey, Contador struggled but maybe carrying an injury.

Frank won't win, he's working for his brother Andy. Contador's not really injured, just tired from riding all out at the Giro. Evans and Basso look like Andy's two major threats. I hope Sammy Sanchez gets in there, but even after today, he's still a ways back.

the proforms i get basically let me pay the same price, but for a brand new bike. still too much cheddar right now though, maybe next year.

Contador is carrying a slight knee injury apparently, although in addition he is still pooped from the Giro. Frank is attempting a podium spot. Basso is not much of a threat.

Seems to me he climbed fine today.... lol but I doubt that will be the same tomorrow and through the Alps. Still impressive to get a stage win in the mountains from a pure sprinter, but he isnt the world champ for nothing right?

I mean your so right but look at all the other "pure sprinters" Cav got dropped, Gilbert got 8th (not too bad). My point was that it was very surprising to see Thor pull off that stage win.

great stage today, andy seemed really comfortable although he wasn't able to create any gaps with his attacks, and also ivan basso seems to be riding really well and has quietly snuck into 5th, we'll see what happens with him..

and i can't believe how well voeckler has been defending the yellow jersey.. nobody could shake him!

that impressed me the most

wasn't the most exciting stage because no one really managed to break out from that group, but it was pretty nice to watch since my manager was gone so about 10 of us just stood at front cash and watched the finish

I am really starting to feel that this is cadels tour. he has stayed with contador, both schlecks (to a certain extent), basso, and all the main contenders during the tour and in some instances, has beaten them. He is clearly on great form now
also even if he loses some time in the alps, he still is going to gain around about a minute in the time trial over both schlecks, because they are pretty bad at TTs.
all im saying is that if the schlecks dont kill him in the alps, evans will probably win the tour

Lots of mountains left in the tour, so it's gonna be an exciting last week. I can't believe how well Voekler rode yesterday. I don't see how he can't be considered a serious threat with a 2 minute lead at this point. The climbs yesterday were very difficult and he not only kept up, he attacked on the last climb for a short period!

Cadel Evans looked in pain yesterday all the way up the last climb, but he rode great so who knows? The Schlecks looked great and their team is strong, Contador looked okay (but he has to be wondering where he is going to put 4 minutes on the field if he wants to win), lots of other riders are having good rides right now.

Jens Voight was easily the biggest badass of the day yesterday though. What a champ. We have to remember that they are only about 20% of the way through the hard ass climbs right now, and they still have Alp D'Huez looming in the distance. The overall guys have a really long way to go before they start seeing the finish line.

Pretty good show today, but I'm wondering if the attack on a category 2 climb was worth it. There are several beyond category climbs coming up that can absolutely destroy anyone who isn't rested and ready to get rocked. Cadel Evans had a sick day and I hope he didn't crush himself for the rest of the week.

Cadel looks good for the GC considering he is the best at TT, and has a lead in the GC over the other contenders, I can't see Voeckler winning, but maybe Contador has a chance (hopefully).Wasn't impressed with the Schlecks today, as well as Andy's post race interview- he seemed very arrogant

Uhhhh.....Andy Schleck just attacked on the Col d'Izoard. There's another beyond category climb after it, 60k left in the race, but he does have 2 of his riders in the breakaway so maybe this could work. No one went with him. The race just got real, and I can't wait for Alp d'Huez tomorrow!

Hats off to Andy for being the only man with the balls to attack in the entire peloton, and hats off to Voekler for absolutely destroying himself to get one more yellow.

Amazing effort from both, I hope Andy has it in him to hold on for Alp d'Huez tomorrow. God knows Cadel Evans won't attack.

Schleck broke near the end. He still needs more time to feel safe against Evans going into the TT. Frank didn't have to do anything today so he'll be fresh for the stage tomorrow.

I just found this thread now. I had no idea there was a cycling following on NS. Do any of you guys ride as well? Compete? What discipline(s)?

/Threads for when I get home from work.

Also, this is my input on the bike competition on page 1:

Giant FTW

I don't road bike, but I do mountain bike. Mix of XC and downhill. I spend most of the summer in the Vail/Keystone area. I ride a Giant Trance X2.
