2011 Tour de France

its one of the unfortunate aspects of cycling that rather than celebrating the winner, everyone instead has to be suspicious.

I personally love the allez! It's has the amazing racing geometry that my Tarmac does, it can just survive a crash. My heart is going to stop the first time I lay down that bike.

i love my bike, but in a race, pretty sure your tarmac and probably superior cardiovascular ability would beat me. i get to use a demo tarmac expert sl3 out of my shop though, it's wicked.

No he just looks so far behind where he should be in his training. Although I hate how everyone assumes cycling is a dirty sport, my best guess would be because he switched from a team that supported doping to one that doesn't, but who knows what's up. Tour de France is exciting no matter what.

I'm watching! ive got an good feeling about the Rabobank crew, weve got some young talents :)

as long as armstrong isnt going to win

They've changed the points system so he can't now win it just on stage wins , unless his team carrying him for the whole stages.

Bradley Wiggins for yellow!

Just so you know.....

Levi's on trek

Schlecks on specialized

contador on specialized

The fact that you're hoping someone wins based on the fact they are riding a certain bike is slightly pathetic.

hahahaha!

+k for good racial profiling!

Britain is a small country and its rare we ever do well at anything and its un-patriotic not to back up one another!

told my welsh friend cavendish was going to team sky and he got super stoked, getting them all together for the olympic season

It is sick he has gone to sky, but Mark Renshaw hasn't gone with him so he won't do so well this tour

but Olympics

Fuck yeah we'll win

No it's really not. They are all so amazing, that really the only thing that differentiates them is the bikes they ride. And I am gay for specialized. And it's not like anyone doesn't choose what skier they want to win whatever because they are on the same ski, goggle company, outerwear company.

Give Contador a Cervelo or Trek and he could do the exact same thing. The bikes they ride don't make much of a difference. Alberto Contador vs. Yaroslav Popovych, Contador because he's a better cyclist not because he rides a Specialized vs. Trek.

They've changed the points system to make it easier for Cav to win, there is one intermediate sprint that is worth a lot rather than lots of little ones. I read an interview with an organiser who said it was ridiculous that Cavendish could be so dominant in sprints, but not win the green.

Oh wow really? I must have mis-read!

I was under the impression that he had to win intermediate sprints because they were worth more now to have any chance of green

good news though!

the sad part is, the most interesting part of the season was months ago. the classics are ten fold interesting than the tour, fabian and gilbert's form were both incredible and
Until andy's second place the other day day in the tour de suisse, he hadn't looked like he'd be challenging for the tour's win. The race is thrown slightly open with andy lacking true form and contador just winning the giro (it's incredibly tough to race, let alone win back to back GT's). Other interesting factors, radioshacks old men and their wins as of late (Horner in california and levi in TdSuisse//kloeden has looked strong in the last couple of months.) Also Van DeBroek has potential to podium, i doubt he'll win.
Evans has been an entertaining racer since he won worlds almost two years ago, he's getting old and this will probably be his last shot- his TT has looked weaker this year.
As far as garmin goes-ryder has a better shot than CVV, he can climb, is younger and hasn't been plagued by bad luck.Basso fell a month or two ago and has looked like shit since, will be lucky to crack top 10.All that being said, cycling is so much about luck- especially in a three week race, recent memory of lance armstrongs 7 straight wins just show how lucky he was, just ask igor anton(2010 vuelta) what luck is really about.

It's still not about the bike they ride. The better rider is gonna win, its not who has the better bike. The bikes are closer together than the riders. UCI has weight limits for all those bikes, and all the mechanics on all those teams get everything dialed to that limit down to the ounce. I really don't know anyone who is immature enough to pick their favorite skier or cyclist based on the equipment he uses...

It's not immaturity, it's the fact that I work for a Specialized store so in turn I am going to want a Specialized rider to win.

Excuse me officer is there a problem with the Schleck brothers? Yes, I do love them.

They're not THAT gay.....

from ny times:
"SPORTS BRIEFING | CYCLINGContador Pulled Over on RideBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSPublished: June 16, 2011Alberto Contador, the three-time Tour de France champion, was pulled over during a training ride in the Alps by a French police officer for cycling without lights. Contador’s spokesman, Jacinto Vidarte, said the officer told the cyclist that he needed to be visible on the road, the famous Galibier pass, which snakes down through dark tunnels."haha the french all hate him so much

That's still stupid. It's like saying you want Brazil to win the World Cup because they're sponsored by Nike and you work for Nike, although you are English.

All of the bikes in the Tour are generally the same weight because there's weight limits from the UCI, and most of the bikes use the same components. So you're pretty much cheering for a piece of vinyl on the frame of a bike.

I have met a ton of the people from Specialized including some riders, work for a Specialized store, ride Specialized. And even though I have made it seem like I only think the bike matter I also like some of the riders. It's just I am going to root for the Specialized teams first before individual riders. Definitely Cancellara. And I am going to not like some people also because of the bikes they ride, especially the Leopard Trek team.

I think Andy Schleck broke out from a fantastic rider to an inhuman rider last year because his brother went down. He's said before that Frank holds him back more than he pushes him. If one of them wants to win a tour, they have to race against each other and stop holding hands. Otherwise I don't see them getting away from that 2-3, or 3-4 finish.

I want to see Andy pull it out, I think the Giro is nothing to gauge Tour prep on.

Cancellara gonna throw another motor in his bike (joke)? But in all seriousness I think it's pretty childish to root for someone because of the bike they ride, it's like rooting for a football players because of the shoes they wear nobody does that. Whatever floats your boat though, tons of good riders on Leopard Trek.

i don't know what everyone's big problem with this guy is. first off, the bike a cyclist rides on is, i don't know, 1000x more important than the shoes anyone wears. and some people don't like certain brands. i like specialized a lot, and i don't like trek bikes at all, so ya, i'm cheering for people on specs more than on treks. the winning bike's gonna get hype, gonna make more than a few sales next year. i have nothing against the schlecks, i like em, but would i prefer someone on specialized to win? absolutely.

Everyone in here likes Specialized and Trek, maybe its me being a Triathlete but I love the Felt Da from 2 or so years ago. The geometry was so aggressive compared to the other tt bikes I've ridden. I also liked the Orbea Ordu.

Oh well, Go Schleck!!

It's a shame Bernhard Eisel crashed 500m into HTC's time trial, they definately would have won if it weren't for that, Cav was pissed. Nonetheless, pretty stoked about Garmin-Cervelo winning today I've loved them ever since the start of the Cervelo Test Team, and I got a good laugh outta Thor wearing the Polka Dot jersey.

well actually the last two stage winners and the yellow jersey are from Garmin-Cervelo, probably the cleanest and the most anti-drug team

contador is a doping idiot, I mean come'on biking has some of the highest doping standards now and hes going to blame shit on raw meat? idiot

Andy ftw this year, and a ban on contador
