2011 gear

Wow spence that blows.

My afterbangs are falling apart also. the edge is separating from the wood. and the wood is splitting in another spot. and has an edge crack. the manager of my ski shop says he isnt sure if line will waranty them, but is sending them in anyways. these skis are supposed to be the most indestructible, and be awesome on rails, but are falling apart already? they should definitely warranty them. its bullshit if they dont.

rail skis=warranty for rails

/rant

this.both of our skis are basically designed for rails. they're advertised as park skis, claiming they can take abuse. but yet as soon as you hit one, the warranty is no longer valid.
that's probably the biggest flaw with ski companies today in my opinion.

exactly

i can see their point of view, that rails will tear up the skis and they would have a lot of people wanting to warranty them, but if they say that they are the most indestructible skis, they should stand behind it.

Surface said that the skis were designed for rails.

they then have a legal obligation to uphold that, regardless of their personal warranty. I forget what legislation it is though.

I hope Surface is reading this. Hey Surface! I was thinking of buying a pair of your skis next fall. Guess I can check Surface off the list...

damn surface was one of my favorite companies, i have 09 watchlifes and i just bought my dad 2010 live lifes and he loves em "best experience on skis hes ever had", i planned on buying surface forever, but after this bullshit with spencer and thomas and im sure many other people im never going to buy one of their skis for full retail, sure ill pick em up from the showroom sales because my wl's were only 150 and my dads ll's 300 but theres no way in hell im paying more than that for a park ski thats just going to fall apart, hope my wl's and my dads ll's hold up.

Surface, i just lost alot of respect for you, looks like i need to find a new company for park skis which used to be you because i love my wl's, and it would be line but their skateboards fucking suck and apparently they dont like to warranty the most durable skis ever, untill then ill be riding my ep quiver, which is all i need and the best of what i need, untill it slowly dies......

i'll still buy surface because i'm smart enough to realize that the experiences of two customers does not equal all the experiences with all customers. if you put it into a percentage i would say it would be less than 5% the people who feel that they have been wronged by surface.

its like two people complain about a commercial and the fcc freaks out because they think that represents the opinion of everyone.

skis don't grow on trees and companies use their discretion because they have something called overhead to manage.

and maybe you should stop jumping on rails like a fucking gorilla. ya heard.

spencer doesnt ski rails super hard, and he can tell you i damn well dont do rails all that well/hard

seriously. i mean honestly do you guys really think that every company should just give free skis to everyone that has an edge crack. i mean for fucks sake even if a ski is designed for that it can only take so much abuse. they are a business for a reason, to make money, not just give out free skis to every kid that beats the shit out of them.

thats like saying i bought an sti and its made for rallying and i took it offroad and broke my suspension and wanting subaru to just give me free shit to fix it, no its called a LIMITED WARRANTY meaning you cant be a complete dunce and get free stuff

/rant

^them not warrantying them is half the problem, and half the reason why i'm not buying surface skis. the other half is that the skis can't hold up.

why pay good money for a pair of skis that don't hold up? it's just not logical. i'm probably going with AR7s next year strictly for the durability, which is why i've checked surface off of my list.

I hate to inform you. But they say they are built for rails. Thus meaning they will hold up on rails with minimal damage. Because in theory you could hit rails with non twin tips. They have no reason to argue here. They are rail skis.

I was really stoked on maybe buying a pair of watch lifes, but I guess not anymore. Moment and armada seem to be the two best companies right now. So definitely ordering from one of those two.

And as for next years gear. Everything sucks other than élan, moment, and armada. Other than that nothing intruiges me.

This isn't a new issue people...how many ski companies make skis for parks/rails, have their rider in video parts advertising said product while riding jumps and rails, and then void your warranty on the skis if you ride on jumps/rails...its ridiculous!!!

I was demoing the salomon 2012 yesturday and the salomon guys freak out because i took it in the park and in the process hit a few rails/boxes...just mind numbing stuff from some of these companies...

well obviously they don't want you taking demos on rails... because if (when) they fall apart after hitting 5 rails then you could tell people that salomon durability still sucks.. people will find out not to buy the 2012 before buying them, not 2 days after buying them as is salomons business plan..

And yes, it is ridiculous.

skis online do not come with a warranty. Support your local business, have your ski shop order your skis, and 99% of the time they will offer you a better price than what is allowed to be listed online. Backcountry price matches because no company online can show a ski listed for below MAP, and your local ski shop can sell it below MAP.
Internet sales are going to kill the ski industry....just sayin.

if there product was decent, it would sell itself even more demo after demo if someone could get on a beat up pair of demos and still love them.

No edge armor though!

once again, you missed my point these are only two people out the hundreds that have bought these skis that are complaining about edges.

so now everyone things that because of these two people, it means that all their skis suck

you guys don't see the problem with your logic here?

and by the way, mr. clean told me that his product would cut through grease, but it didn't so im going to fucking sue him!

give your heads a shake.

no i know, i completely understand what you are saying, but you honestly can't expect any ski to withstand abuse from rails after enough days. the only way they could do a warranty would be to shorten the length of the warranty from like a year to like 90 or 120 days after you buy it. that would be the only way to make sure they don't just completely fall apart like those ones did after a few days. but then the warranty would be too short for issues like delam and stuff like that.

its just a simple fact that no ski is going to be able to withstand doing park all year, if they made them so they would every ski would be so incredibly stiff with super thick edges that no one would want them, you can't have it both ways unfortunately.

thats like saying that the obsethed is meant for big mountain and i skied off a cliff, hit a rock and ripped my edge out and core shotted them and then want k2 to warranty them. some shit just isn't warrantyable.

anyway, i completely get what you are saying it is just simple physics that a 1 inch thick piece of wood and metal can't be slammed on a rail all day for 30-40 days and not start to break down.

i got my skis from my older brother and they are older salomon when they were still capped. the only problem i have had is little guoges in the base. but other than that my skis are fine. and i hit rails all the time, i got no edge cracks or nothing.

A coulple shots of some new sticks I'm digging

First http://pmgear.com Splatuala reverse chamber/sidecut 144mm underfoot. Basically McConkeys orignal spatula with a cm of girth all the way around and bomber light weight carbon fiber constuction

sfb257.jpg

FKNA tool of mass powder destruction

Got a chance to make a few turns on http://dpsskis.com new rp 112 highly rockered but stiff tips bomber lightweight carbon fiber construction also

sfb293.jpg

awesomely carvable yet 112 mm of float

My guess ould be similiar to lhasa pricing.

Talking with Splat he's redoing the 183 orginal 99mm underfoot bros and then moving on to r&d of the Splatula. The pair I have is a bit soft, he was talking about thickening the core to make the new ones stiffer

i rode my lizzies 160 days last year and had 5 edge cracks at most. there was maybe 30-40 days that didn't consist of constant laps through the park.

and lizzies are probably one of the thinnest skis out, not to mention they are 110 underfoot, so the amount of force put on the edges is greater than a 80-90 waisted ski.

so any park ski that cant hold up to that abuse is a piece of shit in my mind.

of all the stuff seen from SIA, i have to say that hands down moment killed it the most! the outerwear looks so nasty and the skis are all sick as fuck!

agreed, moments outerwear is so nice, i'm also liking that crazy print armada jacket with the eh purple pants.

I'd concure those graphics on the new Comi' s are tits

The new ski company Ski Logic booth next to moment held some nice looking handmade in the USA sticks as well

sfb290.jpg

looks like my 07/08 Invaders after two full seasons of riding 4 days a week. Your skis shouldnt look like that after 4 days of riding park. If surface does not warranty those I will loose a lot of respect for them.

Seriously, I was touching myself when the new Da'Nollie topsheets and bases were being shown. Probably my favourite topsheet graphic ever, and such a solid construction. P-Tex sidewalls >>> ABS

But a 170 or a 180?

One is too short, the other is too long. I might just get them as a piece of art work.

^Agreed. Next years Da nollie graphic pops so much. The only graphic I like better is the Fortitude Lincolns for next year. Two skis that I am caught between, I like the wider sidecut on the Da nollie better.
