07/08 Ski Picture Thread

veteran what are your thoughts on the new marker binding? and for those of you who think the skis in the picture with pep are helbents or pontoons look closely they have a regular camber, my guess is that they are the fugatives.

I don't know much about that white park one, but from what I've read the Duke looks pretty solid. Its got some metal in it so it will be more durable than the Naxo or Fritschi, but will also be heavier. Not a pure AT binding, but then if you are going for that, you might as well get dynafits.

It has a low stack height and 6-16 DIN so I see this as a very option for people who ski a lot of alpine but enjoy going into the slackcountry, not hours-long touring. People are speculating that if you ride a 70/30 Alpine/AT mix you could get away with this being your only binding. It is a Marker, but the toe and heel piece look like they've been stolen from a Fritschi and a Look respectively, so it could be fantastic. If Rossi or Salomon had come up with something like this it'd be a fair guess that the pre-orders would be full already.

I'll save my personal thoughts on it until I have a chance to ride it. I don't do enough touring right yet to justify adding a 4th pair of skis with Dukes on them just yet (though Coombas+Dukes would be fucking sweet!) so its just trekkers for me right now.

If I had Coomba's I wouldn't even mount an AT binding. I really cant see any disadvantage to using Trekkers and regular solid downhill bindings, except the cost of the trekkers and having to wear a pack (which you should be carrying anyways...) to put them in once you're ready for the descent.

just wanted to address some false info that was said earlier. There was a picture of 5 salomon boots. someone asked if a specific one was the spk. another person answered saying all but the yellow boot were spk's. that statement is untrue. the three boots on the left side are all spk's in different colors and whatnot. the bottom right is some random yellow one. the new boot coming out from salomon is the one on the top right. it has the 2 buckle system just like the spk, but has a flex and construction geared toward backcountry riding.

fischer has really stepped it up graphics wise. i hope the addicts are as good as this years.

A small word on the The EP Pro.

A 127mm or 137mm underfoot. I believe 137mm but someone can verify. There is some rocker in the tips as well - as you can see in the picture. Again need someone to verify if it's just tip rocker or full blown reverse camber.

Line has some sick fucking graphics this year. Finally the prophet series looks good. Although I don't really see the need for 4 skis over 115mm in the waist with none of them being non-traditional sidecut, hopefully the EP Pro has got something up its sleeve.

The Lizzies and Bacons look so cluttered this year I liked how the were simpler last year, but the prophets look sick and why the hell is pollard making another ski he already has what 3 what pro models

From Mountain_Man on TGR. The new rockered fatass Salomon. X-Wing topsheet for now...

Then this was posted in the same thread by big_pimpin

"You didn't hear this here, but those pics are from the Salomon pre-view in Vail yesterday. The black one is the XW Lab, spy shots in another thread. Confirmed wood core, dimensions are 140/107/120. One length only, 198cm. The one with the Sandstorm graphics is called the Rocker. It is pretty unique in that it is rockered from the binding forward to help it plane, but from the binding back it is flat. Also confirmed wood core, dimensions are 147/127/137. Definately a big board. One length only, 192cm. It does in fact have a removable swallow tail which is that black plug in the spy photos. The production graphics are pretty cool. Mostly black on one ski, mostly white on the other. Funky modern art looking logos in blue with a little wood looking trim.

It's good to see Salomon putting wood back in their skis, unfortunately this is only on certain models. (two mentioned above, plus most of the XW line) The gun still has the flimsy foam for next year."

Loss of function with them is really minimal in my opinion, and its a fair tradeoff for having a solid setup on the way down.

Uhg, they destroyed the SFB's with the new graphics...

because its a plate you moron.....have you not looked at ski bindings in the last fucking decade. ALL BINDINGS NEED HOLES IN SKIS. Look at that toe piece, doesn't it look a tad familar....and who would win a comp with a freeride binding. Your a retard. They don't have hold because they can be slid onto a plate. ( just like Salomon's smart track, just like head's system). The Duke....which if you read my post all the way through you would realise that is the one im talking about....is a binding based of the reactor. The toe piece is based of the reactor.
