so Simon is all for skiing to get huge and be like snowboarding. Thats cool and i understand why somebody would want that but is there anybody who doesn't want that to happen? Does skiing really need to be packaged up and sold to the masses like snowboarding is? Part of skiings appeal is the fact that not as many people are into it.

I agree^^^ Im proud to be a skier for the fact that less people do it, but if you think about it the dude wants money. I mean if you were in his position to make as much money as you could you would probably do the same thing.

^You like skiing cause less people do it? Why don't you go find a sport that acctually like instead of doing something for the sake of being different? No offence but it just seems stupid to ski cause not many people do it

Go skierpipe for 2010! With Olympic gold on the line you know we would see the biggest and best pipe runs in history.. Imagine how amped the skiers would be for that event, and how hard they would throw down.

the only thing i have a problem with is the halfpipe in the olympics. he presents the wrong reasons... i mean "just look at what it has done for snowboarding and shawn white" cool. now every little city shit that comes to the mountains wants to be just like shawn white and snowboard, then they think they are the shit and claim being a snowboarder. Plus, shawn white is a total and complete asshole to anyone that isn't friends with him. I wouldn't be surprised if he laughs at simon behind his back for being a skier, even though they are friends.

I think Dumont is sweet for trying to push this sport as much as possible. He seems cool and seems to know exactly what he/us need to do to get this sport in to the olympics - which, whether you admit it or not, would be huge for the skiing scene/companies/us.

Though without hating on Dumont, it's comments like "obviously the biggest incentive was the prize money" in Yeah Dude that really portray him as being a selfish money grabber.

Now hell, i understand that we've all gotta make a living and that's all sweet, but fuck if i was on the honda ski tour i would be so stoked to be there skiing i wouldn't give a shit about the money...

Yeah I think there could be more money in the industry, but I don't want skiing to go too main stream, I also am not to sure about this Dumont kid. Hes too cocky for my likings.

Do people in Europe actually care about skiercross? On the Honda Tour I just turned it off, it's not exciting at all. I'd rather watch either World Cup DH/SG/GS/SL or a pipe/slopestyle. Cross is a stupid artifact of the 90s.

Hahhaha... naw look Simon and I made up!

phpThumb.php

Halfpipe in the Olympics is a fantastic idea. Its cool for things to remain small and core, but the fact of the matter is that will not create survival for the sport. Skiing would flourish, and there would be so much more money in the sport for athletes and core companies. Parents wouldn't hold you back from participating, mountains could never plow their parks down...

Things just get so much more solid for us by being recognized as a legit sport.

hahahahahaha that company is gonna bottom out so fast...

i dont think ive ever heard a worse strategy in my life for a startup than "we're just gonna make whatever i want to! if i wanna make shoes, ill make shoes! yay!"

even if you succeed in completely altering your product line every year without completely broke due to infrastructure modification problems (wont happen) then it'll be impossible for them to keep from alienating people?

i doubt someone will be like "wow, i really liked empire skis and gloves! i think im gonna sit around and wait to see if they make skis and gloves again this year!"

not only will people not be loyal to the brand if they keep shifting their products, but think how pissed people will be if they actually like something Empire makes one year, and then that category of product is never made ever again...

what an irritating plan, that guy's got some real balls to think that people are gonna go along with this bullshit...i dont think im a dumont fan any more

Just think of what Shaun White's support might be able to do if he were to speak out on behalf of skiers & half-pipe 2010.

Since Dumont is pretty much the posterboy of halfpipe skiing I'm glad to see he's pushing it in that direction.
