wait 900 - 1200 coverage on injuries requiring surgery? What happens when your ACL costs 24,000? I mean yeah 900 bucks is sweet but this doesn't really suffice as a true replacement for good health insurance

This is such a good thing for the industry, glad to see it happen. And for those of you who already have insurance, or don't think this is news worthy, There are tons of insurance plans that don't cover certain types of accidents from skiing, or cover less in the areas that we need more. An affordable plan that's specific for skiers and snowboarders is great, it also cuts out costs you would pay for things that most skiers find unecessary(sp?) in other plans. Finally if you don't think this is worthy to be in the NS news section, then clearly you don't understand America, because for the last few months national and local news has been focusing more time on the Goselins, than on war in the middle east, health care, Obama, and global warming.

I don't know if anyone looked at the benefits, but medical care costs a lot more than they pay out. For instance, for a ligament requiring surgery, the most you could get is $1200. And thats if you have the best plan possible. I just had ACL reconstruction this summer and it cost around $11,000. The way the interview was worded, they made it sound like you wouldn't be responsible for a dime if you blew your knee.

Don't get me wrong, this insurance is a lot better than not having health insurance at all. And everyone should have some type of health insurance, but don't expect to have all your bills covered if you get paid. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If even the rich skiers need cheaper insurance as well as the poor working class, then I guess Obama is right. God forbid the US detects a hint of Socialism in their buying culture.

Thank God i am Canadian, although it would be nice to not be taxed 40 something %

This an advertisement (not article) and is is supporting a private insurace company.. wtf NS

Being a consultant for this private, for profit company isn't really helping to sport of skiing, Jimbo. get real.

I'm glad I'm Canadian and don't have to deal with this shit.

I'm graduating from college in May, and I think that's the end of my parents' health insurance coverage.

Great to know about this, but those who have pointed it out are right: a $1200 copay for ligament replacements isn't much. I guess if I want more, I've got to start paying more for it.

I think it's important to point out that this is accidental insurance and not health insurance. This is also known as supplemental insurance. A cool offer for those worried about on hill accidents. I, like Dan Brown, need to get health insurance though.

Actually, it's not an advertisement at all, because XSI doesn't advertise with us and there's no plans for them to. This interview was done because Jimbo is trying to bring something good to the table that will help all you kids out there. If you're not interested, don't like the plan, or it doesn't apply to you, then don't worry about it. But show some respect to a man who truly cares about the kids in this sport.

argh, there's that "xtreme sports" again. grates my ears. and how many skullcandy headphones does Jimbo blow threw in a week?

all sidenotes though, because it sounds like a much-needed option for athletes

Skullcandy...'nothing special' headphones that are packaged, branded, and advertised towards action sports. Electric...'nothing special' goggles backed by branding/advertising. XSI...same old shit. Its like the XFL of insurance. I cant stand Jimbo, he just seems too money hungry.
