You americans....

ok... lies. sorry.

i cant say who has more fun playing football, and im pretty sure you cant either. the differences between teams in terms of mentality and "seriousness" (more/less fun) are hugely different between individual teams, and im not sure how much national borders have to do with it.

the majority of US families do NOT expect their kids to play football. my HS team had something like 43 kids out of a 1300 person school. i am one of three of them playing college ball. WAAAAY less than half of my friends growing up played football.

And there is simply no way that football could be the most profitable business in the US. just think about that real quick. Tech companies, drug companies, car companies, insurance companies?

and while its good to see that youre backpedaling, i hope you see that its kinda hard not to take it "too seriously" when youre insulting my country shamelessly.

i was exaggerating in the majority of my post. But i want you to consider how much money is spent on advertisements in the Superbowl alone. More than $2 million dollars for a 30 second slot. Think of how many advertisements run during the Superbowl... 20? 30? 40? 50? maybe more...

While advertisements clearly aren't as profitable during the regular season, it is safe to say that MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of dollars are made from hundreds of thousands of advertisements that run during NFL games.

While it may not be THE MOST PROFITABLE business, it is definitely a giant in the US... and this profit comes strictly from ADVERTISING REVENUE!

I'd rather you not blatantly call me out as a liar, when i made it clear that I was dropping some pretty obvious exaggerations in my post...

Also, just because your school is not really into football does not mean that the majority of US high schools in the states aren't. Go to a high school football game in the south and tell me families and cities there do not live and breath football.

I didn't read the thread at all.

I just wanted to say. American sports aren't complicated, they're easy to understand. CRICKET however, there's a sport the fat and lazy Americans will never understand!

while that may/probably is the case, that is just one region of the US. i stand by my opinion that the majority of US families dont have such lofty expectations for their kids

Let's look at this closely:

"honestly, i dont wanna offend anyone with the following thread"

and

"AMERICAN" equals to something EASY, LAZY, FAST, SIMPLE."

The reason you can't understand football is because you are an idiot who says shit like that. You have to look past McDonalds.

US swim team + Lance Armstrong + NFL + MLB + Tanner Hall + F22 - Champions League Soccer > any other country

i never said i didnt get the rules. i am (now) pretty familiar with them.

and armstrong, lets forget about that. its not that i dont respect him. but he wasnt clean. neither one of the others was

instead of jumping to criticize our brother from another nation, "you americans" should embrace the fact that he has shown interest in your nation and wants to learn more. Don't waste your breath bashing him for technicalities in his posts, you should rather be spending your time trying to help him understand the nuances of American culture, and perhaps WHY these stereotypes he has brought into question are so prevalent.

show some compassion you bloody yanks, not every nation is as great as yours.

Lance Armstrong is the single most tested athlete of all time. Period. Explain how he is not clean. All those investigations were ruled, by European lawyers and sports investigators I might add, to be total bullshit.

European propoganda coupled with US media is why. My neighbor in Germany said "I would never go there to America, I would get shot."

It sounds to me like this moron is comparatively uncivilized and his country encourages being obsolete... we invented the internet because we were too "lazy" to drive? really though?

hahahaha wwowww I don't know where to begin, you're the epitome of ignorance.

sif cricket is confusing. game is simple. someone bowls the ball. batter hits ball. batters run between wickets. batters score runs. batter gets out if the ball hits the wickets when he is bowled to or if he is out of his area.

also, ur form of football is crazy complicated. look at videos of australias NRL. Its just 6 tackles to get it down the field and then touch the ball down in the oppositions 'end zone' to score. check it out theres a lot less stoppages compared to ur football.

so, i'm pretty sure that nutrition still means eating healthy? i don't think that if you ask a nutritionist about what you should be eating that they will tell you fast food. also, personally i never watch tv, i spend a lot more time reading books and magazines than watching tv (i never watch it..), and do believe the internet wasn't invented for ease of browsing internet stores, it was a military program for research purposes, after the internet went public people realized the potential it had for other civilian uses and it expanded... i can't believe how fat lazy and stupid we are.. damn...

1. people that take substance X arent positive tested if scientists either dont know about substance X or tests arent reliable/impossible. CERA was a big deal, everone was clean. then, some guy invented a new test, and woop - we finally have positive tests.

you dont know how much CERAs, Xs or whatever are out there...

2. jan ullrich was pretty sure tested positively (as well as all the guys that were behind armstrong, sastre, basso, etc...). believe me: YOU CANT BEAT a doping jan ullrich if your not doping yourself. ullrich has one of the best physical bases ever seen by medicins.

basketball was created in Springfield Massachusetts, about 10 miles from where i go to school.

and when it comes to simple sports...rugby takes. Simple, move the ball forward, can't throw it forward

gmack24 --> patrick.feihle

you are such a fucking moron.

thx my friend.

this specific american seems like he cant handle criticism.

ghostfacekillah, thx, you got me. its more about "why could it be that these stereotypes exist" than anything else.

1. we didn't invent the internet because we were too lazy to drive. The internet was created in order for the government to communicate more effectively. Bill gates brought it to the public

2. "but as i said, in nutrition its fast food instead of fruits & vegetables, in culture its TV instead of books..." you're basing this off of stereotypes. If you really think that the majority of people living in America follow this "American way of life" of fat, unhealthiness, and laziness, you're sadly mistaken. That's like saying all canadians are lumberjacks who don't shave

so i thought i look behind my stereotypes, and what do i see

wikipedia (usa)

culture/food

...Characteristic dishes such as apple pie, fried chicken, pizza, hamburgers, and hot dogs derive from the recipes of various immigrants. French fries, Mexican dishes such as burritos and tacos, and pasta dishes freely adapted from Italian sources are widely consumed.[195] Americans generally prefer coffee to tea. Marketing by U.S. industries is largely responsible for making orange juice and milk ubiquitous breakfast beverages.[196] During the 1980s and 1990s, Americans' caloric intake rose 24%;[195] frequent dining at fast food outlets is associated with what health officials call the American "obesity epidemic." Highly sweetened soft drinks are widely popular; sugared beverages account for 9% of the average American's caloric intake.[197]

culture/popular media

...Americans are the heaviest television viewers in the world,[187] and the average viewing time continues to rise, reaching five hours a day in 2006.[188] The four major broadcast networks are all commercial entities. Americans listen to radio programming, also largely commercialized, on average just over two-and-a-half hours a day.[189] Aside from web portals and web search engines, the most popular websites are eBay, MySpace, Amazon.com, The New York Times, and Apple Inc.[190] Twelve million Americans keep a blog.[191]

you see, its not that i was like: ok lets invent some stuff to fuck up some americans. EVEN if i inform myself and try to get over stereotypes, it will always confirm a few of them. its just part of the game.

ok its wikipedia, you can say now that this doesnt mean a thing. imo wikipedia is a good site since a lot of people are taking care of the consistency of the provided information.

you know, i mentioned four sports:

culture/sports

baseball has been regarded as the national sport; American football,

Fail.
Its not a discussions if the majority of responses are ones pointing out how dumb this thread is sorry. Unless this threads point was to prove how ignorant you are im deeming this thread epic failure

to the thread creator, what is on your non-american-non-confusing-sports list? let me guess......cricket? thats by far more confusing than any other sport. those sports you listed aren't even confusing.

yah and honestly why do so many people want to come here if its such a lazy shit-hole? lol

but i see what your saying and honestly i dunno why our sports are the way they are.

i would say that he criticized us before we criticized him. and the difference is (for the most part), we criticized his ideas while he criticized (insulted) us.

i know that he probably didnt really mean everything he said, but he came on here with some pretty Goddamn inflammatory comments. to not expect some sort of response would be ridiculous.

Personally, I'm just getting tired of stupid, ill informed america bashing. I've said my piece, I'm done.

your fuckin' ignorant.

those American sports were invented way back in the early 1900's, back when American society and even the world was very different from the way it is now. the way you refer to american society today is somewhat true, excpet the sports we play today were invented in a completely different society back then. The sports really are not that complicated you stupid fuck. You have just gotta take time to play and understand them like all sports. /endrant

this idiot can barely write a sentence, grammatical errors left and right. I can't believe we gave this kid the time of day, let alone a response.

Whoa bud,

You need to understand that these "complex" sports were invented back in the days of a real hard working America. So your correlation there is completely biased and untrue.

no it isn't a view at all. A discussion is a formal conversation on a topic, something this thread is not. Im sorry but you cannot change the fact that this thread is completely ridiculous and it makes you sound like a very immature 13 year old, which im still not certain you are not.
sparknotes: go fuck yourself

Pretty much all the sports you listed originated somewhere other than America. America is one of the youngest nations in the world. Check your origins of sports before you make threads that make sports "an american sport"

the same can be said about sports that are not popular in the states. try explaining rugby to some one who has only watched american football, or cricket to a baseball fan.

now about the fat and lazy part, its kinda true.

This guy sounds like an Austrian. Austrians are bad at everything, including sports, which goes hand in hand with why they can't understand them. I mean, fuck, even India can at least play cricket. All Austrians do is sit around munching on pastries, usually made by people from neighbouring countries who are better at cooking than the Austrians are themselves. It's a well documented historical fact that Mozart was the last Austrian to accomplish anything of note, and Mozart was an asshole. So, in conclusion, don't take this guy too seriously, because he's probably Austrian, and also, Austria sucks.

PS: Hockey is Canadian, basketball was invented by a Canadian, the earliest reference to baseball was in England in 1744 before the USA even existed, and "american football" is a perversion of rugby, invented in the UK. But it's ok because the USA invented NASCAR and fake boobs. Well at least NASCAR.

Again, only in concept. When I was playing rep we had 21 plays from lineouts, not so simple now. There are over 300 rules to rugby if you look into the technical ass ones, hence why I have declined all the attempts to get me certified as a ref as well as a coach.

theres nothing "complicated" about any of those sports (put the puck in the goal, putthe ball in the endzone, ru naround the bases, put the ball in the hoop) YEAH REAL hard to udnerstand.

just because the guy that invented basketball was Canadian does not mean that Canada can take credit for the invention of the sport, clearly when Naismith moved from Canada to Springfield he was able to create a game like basketball because of his immersion in the American culture, if he had stayed in Canada basketball would probably be some idiotic sport where people loft beavers into elevated hockey nets with tree limbs, plus the real rules of basketball make it what it is today, and Naismith had nothing to do with that

It never seizes to amaze how most americans gets insulted and takes it personally every time someone talks bad about their country.

Seriously, chill out. This thread was kind of confusing to begin with, but the creator had some interesting views (even though he did not express them too well).

Why not use valid arguments and point out the obvious flaws in the topic instead of flaming Europe and point out how fucking awesome USA is all the time?

what if the world talked shit about your country all the time?

just puttin that out there dont mean any hate

I know it bottles my mind.

Ya I can't believe people get insulted when they are insulted.

It really seizes my mind...

Ok. So you get insulted. I dont´t really understand why though.

Why do you take it personally when someone just expresses the regular stereotypes?

First of all, some of it is true. Americans are in general very fat. But even if it is just bullshit why take it personally?

If someone says that americans are stupid they are probaly not aiming that assertion at you in specific. And if you disagree, then why do you not just point out how wrong this guy is?

I understand if I seem a bit pretentious, but I would just like to say that I am not hating. I´m just tired of

people freaking out just because someone says something negative about their country whether it USA or Sweden.

Peace

Wow. Just wow.

1)Icehockey? Not an "American" sport technically.

2)How does complicating a sport make us lazy? Or playing a sport for that matter?

3)You are making AWFUL generalizations. Shut up.

You have to understand that America bashing is practically a sport of it's own these days.

We get touchy.
