Yo VT kids: Jay Peak or Stowe?

which would you rather spend the better part of 4 yrs riding at. or at least your freshman year of college. i'm thinking about johnson state. anybody go there or know anything about it

im not tryin to be your mom, just tryin to help you by saying that picking a skool by the mountain you ski at isnt the greatest idea. but i believe you when you say that you have applied to other places.

I will be going to champlain next fall. Sugarbush will be my main getup.

Stow is a nice mountian but the lift tickets are 70 a day and it is soooo crwoded on weekends. Jay Peak is the place to be on powder days, and there are more of them at jay to then the rest of the east, and the park is pretty nice also. Sugar bush has some nice terain and a nice park but if u go there stick to mount ellan, it has the park, some of the better terian, less crowded, and cheaper. All these ski areas are no more then 1 hour to an hour and a half away from each other so don't limit ursealf to jsut one, they all are better on diffrent days.

 
haha are you kidding me? of course you pick a school based on the skiing!there are tons of super good schools with good skiing...it doesnt mean you wont take your education seriously if the skiing in an area is part of your decision

since your gonna be at johnson, just why not go to smuggs man ? its only about 20 minutes away...and its such a chill local scene there too, if you were to go to sugarbush youd be driving right past stowe, but that shit gets crowded up and the park there isnt up to par to what the rest of the mountain is. jay would be about 40 minutes away or so. those are your options...but smuggs would be a real nice palce to go since its so close. plus if your into the park the t-bar is right there at smuggs, and they dont even check. tim the liftie is there and he is the coolest fucking liftie ever. hes even a trained emt in case you happen to kill yourself

k, obviously he's not choosing schools by what mountains are around, if he was, then he'd be thinking about schools out west.

personally i'd go with Jay Peak, way more snow than anywhere else in the east, and the park is pretty good

SMUGGLERS FUCKING NOTCH... CLOSEST RESORT BY AROUND 30 MIN, DOPEST WOODS AND BACKWOODS, SUPER FUN PARK AND SOME OF THE WORLDS BEST... andy woods skis the park a bunch! o and also 10 times cheaper than those other rip off resorts(well more stowe) stowe= old school obermeyer wearers

If I were going to Johnson I'd go to Smuggs. It is so damn close. Then again the chairs are slow as hell. It gets just as much snow as Jay and Stowe too.

 
^and the slow lifts keeps unhardcore dedicated skiers away... IF you decide to go there hit me up and I'll let you in on a few of the insanely dope secret spots... such as the long trail...

depending on which way you goto sugarbush from johnson, you go almost right through stowe, johnson, hyde park, STOWE, waterbury, sugarbush

If i was u i would ski Jay because they truly have the best terrain and snow in the east. The tram is sick and the park is up to par, plus its closer than sugarbush, the only other moutain you should consider.

if you go to johnson..jay is wicked close. just take the road that goes to lake eden and keep going. but smuggs is also like 15-20 min away. smuggs is awesome..but the lifts are so shitty. stowe is too expensive and overrated

Jay: Best snow, sweet terrain (glades and small cliffs), good jumps, only a couple good rails, chairs go on wind delay a lot, short lift lines, cheap tickets

Stowe: Best backcountry shit, crowded (but awesome on weekdays), Park is okay (some nice rails)

Smuggs: Can ride park for free on T-bar, good snow, good terrain (nice and steep), slow double lifts

Sugarbush: Pretty good terrain, park has a lot of potential to be awesome (its usually hit or miss), tons of trails and fast lifts

Thats a breakdown of how I see each place. You really can't go wrong. Every mountain has a bunch of good stuff to offer.

i gotta say i liked Jay a lot, the park was as much as i wanted out of park, i mean i've ridden better ones out west. but i'm not gonna go to a mountain based on its park, thats not where i would choose to ski if the woods are nice

jay!! Their park had 1 shitty jump at the top, then 2 nice tables, then a nice step up, so I would say its just as good as any of the other parks out there. And obviously they get the most snow and have sick terrain

i actually really liked that first jump at jay last year, that crazy-ass step-down. couldn't really go big on it but it was fun for switch stuff and little steezy things to get you into your line

and if u wanna go to college in vermont u should go to lyndon state its like 45 away from jay and like 20 from burke and u can get a season pass for both places for like 300 or somethin like that if u go to lyndon

I really dont see why u should limit yoursealf to only one mountain. I would get a seasons pass to Jay if any couse its the best mtn and the cheapest but u should still go to the bush and stuff evry once in a whuile

to get to jays park u ride up a 25 min lift (not long slow) then ski the entire length of the mountain to get to the park. think of it this way. if there are 2 good jumps. u get 4 hits an hour.... when i go there i hike there park if i even bother hitting it...

^ i thought u were done talking up smuggs.

And even thou that lift ride is kind of a pain it is 7 minutes not 25 and it goes half way up the mountain. Also it can be kind of nice cuase u get to ski a glade and then go right into the park, its not over on some shitty falt part of the mountain. If you want to ski more then the park at smuggs ull be on the lift for 30 minutes.
