Being a pro at the level of Jon or Tanner requires a lot of work, and is the result of a lot more work to get to where they are.
I would much rather they keep what they deserve, despite the fact that it might seem like a trivial amount compared with their overall salary, than to simply give it to someone is "killing it."
This goes back to the reason for sponsorship: to sell product. While they may be sick skiers, that alone means nothing to a company unless they can turn their excellent skiing into product sold. Jon and Tanner do that on a very large basis, with things like the X-games, ridiculous video segments, and putting on their own events and video-blogs in Jon's case.
It just doesn't make sense to take dollars from people who work really hard at what they do and should be rewarded properly and give the money to someone who is killing it, but not part of their team or any thing else.
That said, if Jon or Tanner decides to send me free skis, I'll accept them with gratitude.
