X-Games Slopestyle Live Thread

Also so finish with like 20 min of street finals and miss more than half of ski slopestyle? Cause they cut to the heats of the snowboard street? ESPN sucks.

That run was completely mind blowing and really pushed the limits of snowboarding which is why it got 100. I agree that is still kindof silly tho.

The truth is Tom wasnt the best today, not even in the top 8 best, and therefore doesnt deserve to go to finals. Plain and simple .

tom had a lousy run and got a lousy score. much better to see that than having the judges push whoever popular to the finals.

Henrik's run was so overscored it wasn't funny. Especially his 2nd run (86.00) with such highlights as a switch on straight off a box and a switch right 7...really? A switch right 7 in X games just doesn't cut it im sorry. And neither just a switch wobble double 9 with a bootgrab to a backseat landing...

So many others had more legit runs, henrik is sick but constantly overscored

I understand and I enjoy watching snowboarding, but slopestyle elims seem way more important the snowboard st. heats, since snowboard st is a fairly new event. They'll probably do the same for the slopestyle finals on sunday, cut to some snowmobiling or something. Obviously I'm a skier and I'd rather see skiers, but I wish just once they would favor skiing over snowboarding. Maybe when I'm like 60 years old I'll be happy with xgames coverage.

They need greater transparency in the judging. I really have no clue how they judge this shit, its so unclear. How did Woodys and andreas get in the 90s?

maybe take a breath, relax? I think your better logic is "why have eliminations then" I personally dont give a shit who is in, but having your ace card come up 2 points short in an elimination that is based on subjective judgement seems just silly. Pretty obvious that wallish is a awesome skier, maybe he would have had a finals run closer to his capabilities, would have made for a good show

judges are probably trying to "preserve" the style of the sport. As if there is no stylish dub out there. He deserves the finals but it will be interesting to see style vs. spins as usual.

you mean to tell me that giant gaps to down rails and humungous wallrides dont occur in many street situations!?

haha totally agree! No double kink, concrete ledge would have been cool. basically, less generic features, it was pretty much a one hit slopestyle course

Jesus NS is hypocritical. Last year everyone was hating on spin to win (with good reason) and so this year when a skier with better style then most advances you got people saying he shouldn't have (or at least not scored as high). What the fuck do you want, style or spins???

And tom didn't deserve to make it, Schlopy laid down a cleaner run and Wallisch touched both hands on that landing. And Im glad they reduced the score inflation a little bit this year.

Galaxia, I see your point, but it comes down to this: In the eyes of the judges Tom didn't ski well enough to make it to the finals. You don't judge based on star power, you judge on the runs.

Schlopy had a sick, clean run and hit a feature that few (if any) other skiers hit. Sure, he did two 9s where Wally did 2 dubs. Hard call for sure but I'm glad the judges are looking at style as much, or more, than doing 4 doubles.

where did I say "rig it so Tom can win". WHat i did say was, give him the benefit of the doubt that he will throw down in finals, and taht more people are interested in watching him, and let him advance. Good for Schlopy, just seems like the xgames dude flubbed up

i honestly don't care who is in any finals, i just like to see the guys who perform well throwing down in the last round, because that's what makes it exciting. i'm stoked to see new faces hucking.

I can't follow the judging for slopestyle.....after they judged Andreas and some other guy high, too high, I thought maybe they're looking for style. But later I was seeing plenty of stylish runs that were scored in proportion to Andreas + other guy.

Then comes Tom Wallisch who basically killed the rail section. The only questionable hit on the rail section was his lip 270 on. When he landed on the rail he didn't quite lock on and came off early off the side towards the end of it. Apart from the hand drag and that, I thought his run was clean. I don't understand, does the rail section count for 25% of the rider's total score???

So you guys are saying... we should just give out the awards:

1) Wallisch

2) Brown/Goepper

3) Hatveit

... and just not look at any of the runs?

We all know that "X Games logic" exists, but I never thought I'd hear anyone on NS arguing for it.

i'm not arguing for it, not sure where you're getting that. just stating a fact. people have been bitching for years about the way x-games is judged and yet the same shit happens every time. obviously the better run should score higher, but frankly i'm also surprised wallisch didn't get put in the finals because he's one of the few skiers that the general non-skiing public will have at least heard of.

wallys run wasn't good enough, sure it's debatable but I'm glad the judges are actually judging and not just giving it to him because he's Tom wallisch

FUCK wallisch didn't qual FUCK gus didn't qual FUCK didn't even catch a glimpse of ABM.

fuck x games i'm so pissed right now

could someone give me a recap of ABM's run? missed it for "street" snowboarding...what a fucking joke that was
