X Games 2021

Are they showing the score and I’m just missing it? I think it’s a bit whack that they aren’t showing it. If I were Goepper, I’d want to know where I sit and what someone needs to beat me.

Also, holy shit the 2nd jump is basically the landing of the first jump. Ridiculously close. This course is stupid. Thank god some of the competitors have been getting a bit more creative on the rail features

That is the format, there are no scores, just ranks.

They gave him 5th for that run

Yeah, I was pretty surprised, but also encouraged. The rail run was pretty uninspired. Continuing spins out on the 2nd and 3rd features, not a lot of sauce on it.

Goepper naked in the start area trying to bleed the clock

I remember last year Fabian Bosch did a trip 1980 in qualifiers and they scored it way low and he didn’t make finals.Tom said something like well that makes sense because he is spinning like aerials and judges don’t like that. Now Andri does it and they score it in the high forties. So which is it do they like whoever spins most or whoever is most creative?

well fabian did his 1980 in the order of cork 10 to 3 to 3. He didnt even try to grab the 10. He just looked like a pencil or, as Tom said, and aerialist.

Scores are totally arbitrary and have never meant anything, it’s purely rank based. Like a 89 might win one comp, and a 91 another, but they could be the same run. The only thing I feel like we miss without the numeric scores is how MUCH better one run was than another. Maybe the lil FWT red/yellow/green bars would help.

who the hell knows.

You literally just sucked off Andri about his NBDs and then go and disregard Harlaut's NBD.

You're comparing a triple to a double, you realize that right? Obviously the judges are going to reward a triple with a higher score, this is just common sense.

The year is 2034....Goepper is 40.....He’s just fist pumped after landing a sw dub misty 12 to win xgames at Aspen!

the last 2 jumps are a good idea on paper, but in reality it limits what the guys can throw down

major props to nick on a dope run and to ABM for being so creative

Quinn seemed out of his league out there

I wish instead of making shorter, compact rails, they would use longer rails than normal and have a big run into the jumps section. That way the riders can get really technical and not rely on doing disasters with spins out.

The point i was trying to make is it’s the same trick one year not good enough to qualify but next year wins the comp. They awarded the one with the most spin when there were others that arguably had better tricks due to grab combos and multiple spinning directions.

yes i agree, the rails were missing something

It wasn't even close to the same trick. Andri's was much more stylish and well rounded.

I think this is a good thing tho, most slope courses are too easy for the athletes, same jump, same trick, rinse repeat. Adding things like these different elements to a slopestyle run forces the athletes to be creative and put together a run they have never done before. I think they couldve designed the side hits better, but it was clearly made so the big air jump could be part of the course.

Im guessing they did this to save money in this covid year, so hopefully next year they return to a money booter at the bottom and a better designed creative hit or two in the jump section.

As you said too, the rails this year were trash, probably because of budget cuts as well, again hopefully next year we see a better course.

Andri literally held mute the entire time and tweaked it

Yes he did but it still doesn't change the fact the trick has been done before in comp. Also many others like abm, antione, evan, did multiple tricks with a wide variety of grabs. Andri did three tricks two with same grab all spun to left the entire night. I personally think x games should award the folks who try a bunch of tricks instead of focusing on two. Evan did multiple directions 18s and didn't even podium. Not to mention abm switching octo in the middle of triple.

Regarding Henrik opting out of slopestyle, Freeski Team Sweden posted this on their site and on stories:

Translation: ”After an eventful big air last night where Henrik Harlaut ended up sixth, he informs that he will opt out of slopestyle.

-”I don’t feel motivated to compete after yesterdays judging in the big air competition and thus I dont wan’t to do something sick that end up not getting any points”.

The article further explains with a comment from coach Niklas Eriksson that his forward double 16 scored more than the switch double 18 even though it is a less difficult trick. Eriksson says that he understands Henriks feelings about it all.

The article also mentions that he will compete in knuckle huck together with Jesper Tjäder.

Kinda wack imo. I agree the jump was underscored, but not even competing the next day is lame. Still love Henrik tho

Good for Dollo. They fucked up the scoring and lost their biggest draw for slopestyle. Don’t blame him at all.

Yeah, I almost felt bad for Quinn in a way. Both big air and slope he was just out classed in terms of tech. Don’t get me wrong, I love his skiing and he’s crazy good, he’s just never seemed like a guy who has devoted himself to learning xgames podium worthy tricks, so it’s sort of weird that he was there at all.

maybe it’s a covid thing? They want him for knuckle huck and due to athlete limits they sort of threw him out there? I don’t know. His vibe all weekend has been great though

Damn....I posted earlier speculating that this might be why he dropped out. Honestly? I’m really surprised and disappointed in him. Seems so out of character. He seems so laid back and even non-competitive so this feels way out of nowhere.

although, To reach the levels he’s reached, he’s gotta be super competitive and driven. On one hand, I understand his frustration and disappointment in the judging, but on the other, he’s not the first guy to receive a score that seems way off, and I don’t recall anyone else doing this....or at least not saying it publicly.

I’m conflicted. Maybe something like this needs to happen to shake up the judging or the transparency, but on the other hand, he could’ve brought so much more to slope today and at the end of the day, we all lose out.

either way, much love and respect to one of the greatest to ever do it in Henrik, I’m just really surprised and sort of hate that I was right.

No gunna lie I wanted Woodsy to win to see if Planks would actually refund the people that bought his signature series outerwear today.

Also I don’t like Andy Spaghetti and they even showed his tiktok which makes me hate him more.

Why do people want it refunded? Also what does him winning have anything to do with it?

I knuckle huck the last event on tonight or are they going to do something weird and like switch between events on the stream and make us miss most of it?

TBH I could seen him being done competing at X and or all comps. What does everyone think?

Nick is a G, I like him, he’s really good....but if you showed me that run out of context, I’d be like “Damn! Is that the Gold run from 2015?”

Yup. I missed the event but just watched the medal runs video. Goepper's top run was the first in the video and I assumed they were starting with the bronze run and was thinking (without seeing any other run in the contest) "yea, it's good, but even for bronze I would hope for a little more". Then I realized that was the gold run. Boo.

Were all the other runs seriously so bad that no one could beat it?

Jesper should’ve had Quinn’s spot for slopestyle IMO. Kinda feel like they weren’t sure how he’d do in a big comp so they gave him a chance, but there were definitely some better options.

I think that Henrik’ll keep competing until he has to sacrifice style to win.

14235948:skeirman said:
Then his argument is invalid.

Nah knuckle huck is just for fun, also there isn’t a big risk of him getting hurt in knuckle huck vs he’s putting his body at risk in slopestyle

Can we get some fucking hype up for Ferdi's switch alleyoop dub 12 off the last hit?!

Are you fucking kidding me Ferdi??? That's the best ski trick of the entire x-games imo, holy shit

That's kinda been my assumption since last night. He mentioned in interviews that he gets really hit hard by not winning and he's prolly soured by it.
