Would you quit skiing to go to college???

i don't know what question you want answered but.....

I used to ski 40-50 times a year in high school but decided to go to a college that was very reputable and not so close to a mountain. Since then I haven't been able to ski much, but in making my decision where to go to school I realized that although I will miss skiing a ton, college and my career will have a much greater affect on the rest of my life than skiing will.

And referring to the other question (if I can understand your post): I wouldn't drop out of school to ski. If skiing is that important to you, transfer to another school where a mountain is close, or take less classes per quarter/semester and take longer to graduate. Unless you are serious about being a pro skier or can make a living in a mountain town (think about when you want to start a family or are too old to ski) it's not realistic to abandon college and a solid career just to ski. Those are my thoughts on those two issue, I'm sure a lot of people will disagree, but to each their own.

i am in a situation kinda relating to this. as well as freeskiing, I also cross-country ski, and really i am better at it than freeskiing, even though i enjoy all kinds of skiing immensely. anyway, i went to school in green bay, wi to ski cross country on a D1 ncaa ski team. i had the coaches word that i would get a scholarship second semester to ski. he never gave it to me. and now i feel like i just wasted a year in a town with the nearest mountain 90 miles away, and did it for nothing. so next year i am moving back to the twin cities to go to school, for the school, and i am gonna ski on my terms, wherever, however, and whenever i want, while still going to the school i want. that is, if i can still get into the new college.

sorry for the mini rant, im not sure if that really relates or not.

i really dont get why kids let it get crammed into their heads that as soon as you are done with high school you HAVE to go right off to college even if it means quitting something you're good at. For some people thats what they really want but I know kids that were good at skiing and did well in competitions and stuff but gave that up bc they felt that they HAD to go to college bc thats just what you do when you're done with high school. Now Im not saying that every kid that can do a few tricks should quit school to try and "go pro" but if skiing is your passion and you like traveling/competing/filming/riding with friends or whatever it really does not make a difference in the long run if you take 2-3 years off after high school and then go to college, you're going to be working that career for the next 40-45 years and then sitting around shitting yourself in a retirement home regretting not spending more time doing something you loved to do.

i go to school, and stil ski plenty during the winter

its all about budgeting your time. Get your work done, and you can ski

If I don't go to college I don't get to ski. I'm going to U of Utah next year, and if I don't go to school I won't be able to ski, because I would be stuck in San Fran with my parents.

Do both, but it can be hard to fit skiing days in if you are serious about school, or you can not be serious about school, either way works out well imo haha~

I've thought this over a lot and I've decided that I would quit skiing to go to college on a few conditions

a) If that school was Princeton, and I actually do get in there to row for their crew

b) Cornell

c) it was that or cut off my balls

if I don't get into either of those schools, then I'm going to McGill or UBC

Hey cory this is tanner from winterplace.

I wouldn't quit skiing to go to college. My dad wants me to go to school in louisiana and I don't want to. There are many other reasons though why I wouldn't want to go school there.

I'm most likely going to end up at the U of U, but if i really had to choose i wouldn't quit skiing for college its what i love to do and what makes me happy id probably ski for a while then go to college you wont stay young forever.

Thatd be ideal for someone in that situation, but it is very VERY difficult to get yourself to go back to school after you stop, even for a year, so most people who plan on it end up going back. You can manage both, but maybe part time it for a while.

Yeah, San Fran is pretty sick, yo. I dont even know who michal savage is. Explain to me who Michael savage is por favor.
