Worst terrain parks

Snow Trails, OH.

I saw someone that said Mad River, mad river is like heaven compared to Snow Trails. Zero management, flat landings, ridiculous lips, flat jumps (if there are any), changed once a year when it becomes so warm they have to take out the features and forced to build it.

Still love snow trails tho home mountains

if you're looking for A1 mid west skiing, perfect north slopes is easily the best park. My opinion is for sure biased since that is my home mountain but it is easily the best park i've have ever skied in the midwest and the best i've ever heard of in the midwest. there is prolly some hill in michigan i'm forgetting about but if you're looking to ski mad river for park, just drive the extra hour and a half to cincinnati.

For y'all complaining about Hyland: If you're friendly with the park crew they'll actually listen to your suggestions for features and put them in and they're currently looking for suggestions for 4-5 new rails. They actually let Evan Wright dig in some features that he thought of because they know him and like him. They're looking for younger park crew people next year who regularly ride Hyland as long as you're over 18. They're actually starting to try to turn the park around. Also I've been told me and my friends should apply for park Crew for next year because we actually wanna have a good park with regular change ups because we aren't just gonna sit around and complain

Yeah, I agree. I'm attending University of Cincinnati and perfect north is 45 min drive so I am excited for ThT.

Hyland was bad this year? I moved away from MN a few years ago and the changes since I left have been huge. Used to be Hyland had the best park around. Now troll seems to be the undisputed king. Afton used to be good but now it looks like it's jerry land, and Wild seems to have stopped trying.

How accurate am I here? My opinion is based purely off facebook and videos.

And to the person who said Perfect North is amazing - totally agree. Their features are set up perfectly, and they're big. I've seen madness thrown down - double flips, steezed out cork 9s - the kind of thing you never see on jumps in the midwest, and some crazy rail tricks as well. Honestly, they're in a different world than most midwest parks, besides maybe Troll.

Afton was prime when I went back over winter break. Buck has upped their game too with the 1817 park. Hyland is shitty. Elm is the same. Troll is on a completely different lvl. Idk anything about wild mt

wilmot mountains park is really good this year cuz vail bought it, its tight

I men yea Vail bought my home hill a few years ago too. Sure they added a better park, but they also fucked up the whole culture of the hill. I feel as though Vail only adds parks because they know that it attracts customers and not because they actually care about the locals.

tbh Vail is a bitch.

Hyland is shit now, they've picked it up in the last month but government owned limits them a lot, and also park crew is pretty shit.

Elm is about the same, Ruby Hill esque but with a tow rope, always is fun to ride here and there.

Troll is king, they've done a lot of remodeling, management is really chill, park crew is active, and they set new shit up pretty much every 10 days. Been blowing a ton of snow throughout the year.

Afton has gotten a lot better this season compared to last, park crew is cool, they changed usually a decent amount, nice setups this year when I've been.

Haven't been up to Spirit yet but they got a tow rope park this year which is apparently really sick. Still have a lot of snow.

For the potential liberty has id say its sub par, havnt ridden there in like 5 years but was never impressed then and pictures i have seen since dont make we want to drive there. Also please send me a video of somebody throwing a dub there because as far as im concerned i havnt seen a picture of a good jump there since like 2008.

yea honestly 2008 sounds about right haha it was from a long time ago. i just wasted 15 min looking around for it but its somewhere buried deep on youtube it was a snowboarder throwing a dub backflip.

not saying it's a nice park, just wanted to back it up as not one of the worst terrain parks out there haha I always thought it was decent. now that i moved up north and ski carinthia though it definitely puts things in perspective

Yea, I wouldnt call it the worst, but it has potential to be much much better

Potential is the key factor in this discussion. Every mtn could have a decent park but some places could/ should have something more. Places with potential, but do nothing for the parks, and put out a shit product are the worst.

So frustrating.

Powder ridge had great parks with super creative set ups a couple years ago but now no one gives a fuck and park park crew can't do what it wants to so it's fallen behind places like Andes mnt .... you know you hit rock bottom when the park sucks worse than Andes

Jay peak these past couple seasons

Lol still? They still got that crusty old snowboarder as park manager then? I remember going there like 4 years ago, it was retarded. Using fucking turf on some stupid wallride thing that only allows you to go straight at it. They got more fucking spools too? Good god, its alright though cause the other skiing was tight.

Whitetail is definitely worse than Liberty... Not that liberty has a nice park, but I've seen worse. I'm park crew there and we have had a tough year because we had 3 of our 4 park groomers move out to Sun Vally so our new groomers are still learning. Also we had water issues with snowmaking and a new management system. Liberty should make some progress in the next couple years, I'm doing my best to add better features and find hard working people for park crew. Also a kid named Tyler Archie did throw a dub backflip there this year. I witnessed it. it wasn't laid out or anything cause the jump was tiny, but he did throw a dub.

Courmarider park - Courmayeur

The only jump bug enough to flip has an air bag and rails have been crafted during the Iron Age

Jumps? What are those? Love sundown!

13795336:BraydenNemarich said:
Ski sundown Connecticut has 1 8"foot down rail and they took down all other features to use the take off snow to cover patches.

Came to say this. There's a setup now, we have have some mini jumps, but the park gets minimal care and when the lips melt the lips melt. Last season I had to ollie on to about half the rails by the last month of the season

Its not just this year that has me down on liberty it is the past 7 years at least. It has a ton of potential as far as space goes and snowmaking go, just nobody has done a good job there since about 2008. Nate Sheehan had the right idea the one year with the 4? jump line starting off vertigo. I feel like he would always build jumps larger than what the landing could actually handle, not to mention the channel gap the one year.

It looks like whitetail is slowly improving. It would be nice if SNOTIME started making there parks consistent across the board kinf of like Peak Resorts is doing with Carinthia/Boulder/Hunter. Im biased because of working/skiing rountop for the past 10 years, but I strongly believe that Whitetail/liberty have a lot more potential space wise than what is available at roundtop. We finally got permission to use all of Fife this year, but we never had enough snow to do everything we wanted, which seems to be the same situation liberty was in.

My (outsider) advice for liberty is hammer Vertigo pretty much the whole month of January and wait until there is a ton of snow and build a good jumpline at the top of vertigo and then stack the lower part with rails n stuff.

Mount Southington

a little late on the quote but southington has been alright as long as there has been snow in my opinion. and i think it's better than anything else around tbh

West (let's build a 90 foot jump for no reason) mtn

Lots of bragging this year but pretty week on delivery. Place has a ton of potential buy there park consists of a "92"footer and 3 rails at the moment.

Why build something that people can hit and progress on when you can build a million foot claim fest.

Good call, forgot about lutsen. I've never seen a park so poorly built and maintained. Lips onto rails are always too narrow and rock solid ice, and the rails are rusty and sticky. The cherry on top are their abysmal jumps with non existent landings.

With all that said there are fun cliffs and backcountry hits throughout the area which make up for it. If you want a good park up north just go to spirit.

"We crushed it!"

"We really wanted to turn up the heat for the last couple weeks this season for the professionals - Come check out the NEW 92' step down (100' to sweet). Accompanied by many other features, opening tomorrow. "

"What happens when we build an epic jump line. Riders send it 🚀 w/ friends. WMP focuses on #progression, #creativity and #style and we are not afraid to show it."

"Getting it done this season"

Posts about how you used to need to go yo CO or CA to ride a park that sick but now its in the east.

A million more about how the park crew is killing it.

Result, no additional parks even with a ton of snow. No rail jam specific builds with a full park crew and other resources. A waste of snow booter "for the professionals" at a mtn where no pros would ride.

I have trouble giving mtns shit about their parks. Im too nice. If you're going to claim how sick your park is you better deliver. That shit is cheesy anyway, but if your park is meh it's lolwut.

Rails even in the prime season not even sunk in the ground properly. All the focus on a jump that doesn't fit the line, the mtn, or the demographic of riders.

Why build a clean jump line under 40 that people will learn on when you can build a mega claim. Why build any of the other parks on the mtn that are still marketed when you can build a claim fest booter. Why build a proper railjam for the kids when you can waste your time on the jump.

Shits meh.

Claiming shit is weak. Build a good park and let your work speak. If you're going to claim hard, at least deliver.

Mtn hashtagged "its all about the kids" while putting out a park that wasn't at all about them.

Pole jam was built with a long leg so you could sink it in and make it stable. Not to sink it in half an inch and make it vert but whatever.

Damn. A few ones didnt show up. Up rail set the other way with a snowbank for a landing with no effort to maintain. That was for a comp too.

Too busy with the sick booter to care.

Also pics of them chainsawing but no jumps were ever squared. Even for their photo shoot.

Lmao West used to be a fun kind of ghetto mountain, but looking back on it after I left that area once I graduated high school, it's become more of a joke this season. It seems like they went from being a ghetto mountain into directing all of its focus to the racing program and their "attempt" at a freestyle program.

"We just used a winch cat to build these steep landings."

"#westisbest" (that one makes me cringe every time)

I just miss the old days of dicking around West on an average Friday night when I was in high school, and I also miss the high school races there because it seemed like none of us gave a single fuck.

Also did they even hold the Hometown Hero jam this year? Or they just solely focus on USASA events?

No hometown hero. That's the fucked up thing. When I left they called me lazy etc. The hometown hero was getting cancled last year because it was raining, the snow sucked, and there was no money.

I tossed in some of my own loot and worked off the clock for a good 40 hours to pull it off. I told them " you cant cancel it". I told them id do it for free with no resources.

Then this year on a good fucking winter, staff, resources, a giant hype train, and they dont throw one. Unless they do it with slush cup. But considering how the park looks now i doubt it.

Also no specific builds for the USASA. The lady running it now moved it from oak to west because she was too lazy to drive over there. At least they would have built a setup for it.

I just hate how little effort they put in this year all well circle jerking each other about how sick is was. There were more posts of them standing around captioned"sick park. Park crew killed it. Epic job. Were so good" etc then real shit.

I still cant believe they didnt build pine island. That park was going to be sick. Make it more of a full lap. Also giving noobs an area to learn where they arent under the lift and self conscious.

Oh well. Maybe somedag that mtn will get run by nice/competent people. At least spencer has access to $from investors. But they really need to get thier shit together.

A lot of good employees left last year and this summer. People that were way too good for west but loved the area.

They had 2 marketing managers quit in 4 months. Now spencer is the marketing guy.(they really should hire somebody)

Every cluster of pictures has a picture of "gm sara mongomery" standing there no matter how irrelevant.

Idk. That place has the potential to be sick. Some great people there but damn. It makes me sad how shittyit is.

its terrible to see hyland "try" and make a good park with less than a week left. They didn't take anytime to think about any feature they made. It looked lke they went out on the park and just winged everything as they took it apart. Most of the features felt like they were there for the entire year and they weren't even well made feature. I don't think getting a news park crew is gonna bring me back next year. It's probably still gonna be really boring and ill just drive the extra 10 mins to elm because they actually have knuckles and features with the tiniest hill ive seen. hyland is in the past and id be surprised to see them come back with all the same features and maintain a decent park. Everyone has hit them hundreds of times of the years and they try to be creative, but can't because of regulations. Im surprised they can make a 70ft jump that sucks, but they can't build any new rails (they built a tiny box). I see them work on the Nybora jump more than anything but building a new park takes too much time. The only time they do any changes or new things is for comps which is very dissappointing. If they put that kind of work in the entire season they actually could have made a real park not a lost and found.

I havent been in a few years. Theyre pipe is generally good and they have some fun features. I wish it was more linear though. I guess on the flip its a short lap so you get some runs in.

their pipe is great but the park is a mess. The biggest jumps are maybe 35 feet and one of the builders dragged a bunch of dirt into them so they're melting out like crazy. The rails are sticky and a lot of the features aren't even safe to hit.

It definitely could be better but given the resources we have (none) I'd say it's pretty alright now

Next year we're gonna try and build some more rails and make sure that the park is a bit better planned from the get go so we don't have crappy features just scattered everywhere
