This is ridiculous, WME should really realize what this move, as pathetic as it is, will only hurt their company. We definitely need to hear more bout this situation and how the preliminary hearing goes also a statement directly from Warren Miller and Josh would be great but for now... FUK WARREN MILLER ENTERTAINMENT.
 
I just commented on their Boulder premier update and on their wall. Its funny because my picture is me giving the finger! HAHA

Why would anyone want to go see a Warren Miller film when he has NOTHING to do with the company anymore? Furthermore, why would anyone want to see a Warren Miller film when Warren Miller Entertainment is actually trying to sue Level 1 Productions for having the real Warren Miller narrate their movie "Refresh" this year? Obviously it must be a real stinger that you have to use pre-recorded or old audio of Warren for the 60th anniversary movie, huh? I will never purchase or support anything your company produces ever again.

 
If you really want to get back at them you have to strike out at the audience they have.Obviously no one on here is going to buy their movies because we know better, what you need to do if you wanna piss them off is go out and tell your dad and brother and cousins and friends what WME is doing, that Warren Miller isn't involved, and that they shouldn't go to the premier or buy their movies. It sounds funny, but tell your parents. Chances are they ski or were into skiing one day, but probably have real jobs and do go on NS forums. Let people know what scum-bags who run WME are doing, make noise about it on facebook and myspace and especially twitter. This is the age when everyone can be heard, so make use of it.
 
If the guys Name is the Company name and HE choses not to work with them anymore, how can they still use his voice? Also if he wants to Work with someone else and He does the recording of his voice how is it Against the law? I guess WME hasa patent on warren millers voice? Hmmm
 
They own copyright on his name and images, and probably pre recorded stuff - but you can't copywright someones voice.... otherwise they'd not be able to speak to anyone in public without getting permission first...

It's all a stunt by WME to try and make a statement to level 1, don;t mess with big boys etc, clearly they're threatened - but the fact remains WME movies are sh*t... no company in SKIING has any money or is cash rich to pull stunts like this and see it through... what are they going to Sue Level 1 for? It's not millions that's for sure! .... this isn't exxon here, i'm pretty sure this will just go away - it's a waste of time - just a stupid ass "lets try make a statement" by WME - for which they are fools. It doesn't have a leg to stand on imo.
 
Those voices are of fictional characters. Warren Miller is an actual person. Think of it like music. I might own all the rights to "lovesong" by the cure, but I don't own the band, or robert smiths voice.

wow, this is unbelievable, i cant beleive what WME is trying to do here.Skiers should be friends together, not sue each other.theres just something wrong with the statement saying that WME is suing L1
 
this is crazy...but I don't think it's all that uncommon in the corporate world.
I'm in line with J.D. when he says NOBODY on this site knows enough to discuss the legal validity of this case, but I do think, from what i've seen in the news over the past 15years, that WME could very well win in court. What that means for Refresh and level 1 I don't know.
Either way, win or loose, we gotta focus our energy on what we know best. We gotta show our support for level 1 by going to the premiers with fucking fog horns, by actually buying the movie, not just borrowing it from your friend 100 times. And obviously, fuck WME, boycott away, but hey, it's not like you were going to buy the new WME flick anyway. WME knows we're not the demographic they target...boycotts are only effective when they're done by the consumers.
we're not lawyers, we're skier, but damn if WME doesn't think we can make some noise and influence the outcome of this situation they're dead wrong. There are so many of us on this site, all around the world, and we owe it to Josh, level 1, and Mr. Miller to show our support.
 
Here's what I don't get. If Warren Miller (the person) did sign some type of contract banning him from talking in any other or any non-approved movie, why would he do it? Wouldn't he know, unless those bastards did some fine print magic. I'm assuming that, since he did it, no such contract exists and WME is about to spend a lot of money on lawyers for no reason and get pwnd by Level 1.

I wanna see Refresh even more now.
 
If you want to boycott and stand outside theatres handing out anti-WME pamphlets and flyers, go ahead, but I really think the best way to respond to this as a sport is to show support for Level 1. Make sure you see the movie.
 
We need to start a fund for helping level 1 cover their legal fees. Does anyone know how to start one haha O yeah and FUCK WME
 
That is so fucking gay, def do something about the dynasty release. but you cant really fuck around with lawsuits they are so complicated, we need an intellegent NS'er to explain what we can and cant do. but we gotta do something
 
I feel really bad guys, I was reading this, slowly starting to dislike Warren Miller Entertainment (not Warren Miller, he is THE MAN), and I look down and remember that I am wearing a Warren Miller Entertainment shirt. I will help ban WME, but fuck it I like this shirt
 
'Something to keep in mind for everybody:I think we all agree that legally speaking, WME has slim to none chances of recovering any damages from Josh and Level 1. Their case is shit.
BUT, Josh and Level 1 still have to defend themselves, which requires paying expensive legal fees. So, complaining to WME won't do nearly as much as actually supporting Level 1 and PURCHASING REFRESH.
I was at the Denver premier and that movie melted my brain it was so good.
 
I pre-ordered it... any idea if this will effect shipping? It currently stands as shipping end of Sept... which is er.... now, or very soon.....

Anyone know any different? I want to see it bad...

Did anyone start a "Fuck Warren Miller Entertainment" facebook page? Love to get that thing flying around the net...
 
Bottom line is that MWE shouldn't be suing Level 1 they should be suing Warren Miller if anyone, but if they did that it is would be Public relations nightmare for them. WME vs. Warren Miller just makes them look stupid...more so than they do now.

Josh and Level 1 should not be involved, WME is just butt hurt and can't go after the man their company is named for...so they pulled this weak ass move.

Josh is dealing with this like a champ and Warren is stud.

Okay nobody in this thread and most likely on this site has a clue on how strong or weak WME case is against level 1. The reason is because 99% of this site aren't lawyers, and because 99% of this site doesn't have access to the hundreds of pages of documentation WME gave to L1P for their case.
The best way to help is to just support L1P. I have already purchased Refresh and So Far so Hood of their site, and will most likely purchase a random t-shirt as well off their site to help support.

Its quite plausible that WME Knows they cant win the lawsuit, but are dropping it this late not to win the lawsuit but to curtail premieres and and DVD sales of a competitor. lets face it 80% of the ski community feels the need to see at least one ski movie premiere. if you can stop or delay the premieres of other companies then by default those customers will come to yours. Since they have no plausible case against PBP and I guess you could put Rage in as the other top company that does premieres in the US then Taking out Level 1 takes out 1/3rd of your competition. its capitalism at its best and worst right there. What really is the rub of it all is that all of the "newschool" scenes in warrens films are all pretty much shot by companies like Level 1 and PBP in the long run if those companies decide to sack up they can get WME by the Short and curlies by not giving them any footage of the actual exciting portion of skiing. but lets face it americans don't have the balls to band together and stick it to someone, the million man march didn't even have a million people.
its a super shitty circumstance but as is implied above and the obvious willingness of WME to sue I would advise against physical backlashes as they will just file against NS unless you want to go the budhist monk way and just light yourself on fire at a premiere in protest. if you really want to affect WME's sales make flyers telling people about the situation and about how Warren is an old man being taken advantage of by corporate america and is in no way involved with the movie people go to see. Just a thought though.
 
They're implying that L1P is relying on Miller's voice to get people to buy the movie.
