Windows XP on a Mac

Tiger is so much sicker than XP. Isn't one of the advantages of having a Mac being able to avoid all the Viruses associated with windows?
 
the macbook pro runs photoshop and some other programs on windows faster than any other laptops built for windows. once they figure out the video drivers, there will be no reason to buy a non apple computer unless your trying to buy something super super cheap.
 
thats lame. i remember when they made itunes for PC and i had a mac i thought they should keep it just mac but they made soooooo much money off of it.
 
Thats sick. im not that fimular with macs but PC r easier to use and mscs have beta operating systems s that gona be cool if they have a pubic release.
 
yeah, im using XP on my iMac right now. pretty sweet actually.

As much as I love macs, I can understand why one would want to also be able to run XP. For me, its so I can get onto my school network and play games. Other people who do programming and other windows only applications will love having the ability to switch between systems without buying a whole new computer, so its a great move for Apple.
 
I'm on an ibook G4 and have VIRTUAL PC installed so i can run windows XP in a separate window at the same time while running OS X. Only reason I have VPC is to play this poker software...pretty useful...
 
I thought about running VPC when I had my G5 but it wasn't supported. I also have a powerbook G4, ive never thought of running VPC on there but I guess i can.
 
I had a computer graphics class in HS and we had a mac lab and I got really used to using those computer and like them, but I've always just owned window's based computers since forever. Maybe for the next comp I'll have to look into that if its available
 
apple is still a shitty company ripping people off and making overpriced computers and components. I have a powerbook g4 and I'll probably never buy another thing from apple because of the way I've been treated as a customer.
 
how have you been treated shittily? i liek them....had 5 macs now, amoung with using numerous pc's which suck balls. anwyas windows sucks, and i hope this isn't the start to the fall of os x!
 
i dont know why or where, but i heard this is just a test to see what tiger is gonna be like or somethin

Hartig, you're right. Bootcamp is due out with Leopard next year, even thought it probably won't be called that.

Why would you ever think this is the end of Mac OSX ? Theyre light years ahead of XP, its the best OS out there.
 
Cuz XP and micro crap is sponsoured by a bunch of hidden stuff...like the government.....and tonnes of huge corporations. and apple has a history of making stupid mistakes.....(liek not pattening thier "windowed" os called mac os, which bill gates then stole and created windows from it.) and people are easily brain washed by windows....thats the only reaons i can figure that everyone has used it for so long. because your right....it windows sucks ass.
 
ohh yyes yes you are right, i heard about a movie....where xerox makes it, apple steals it, then windows steals it from apple....sadly it sounded kinda good....
 
macs arent harder to use at all. its just everyone is so used to windows. so the siwtch is weird. but all in all. macs are faster, more efficient, and all around more powerful.

i thought they just planned to make all windows programs run on OS X? its cool they give the option to those who arent computer literate enough to figure out a mac, but thats just ruining it. now everyone will have macs. ill buy them all so stupid people cant have one. if anyone wants one, theyll have to buy it from me, and go through a vigorous screening process to see who will use it properly.
 
and who the hell told you that? as far as i'm concerned, pcs and macs are more or less par in hardware and software. no single platform or os has a distinct advantage over the other. EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON THE USER! an idiot using a mac or pc is still an idiot using a computer, it makes no difference. if you can't use a pc well, you can't use a mac either, and vice versa. you all act like macs are made by god or something!
 
no, i agree they can be compareable, but a mac processor is faster then a windows processor. look it up. and macs are much more advanced. yeah its more so in software, but you can do so many things on macs that windows have never even touched. maybe macs arent better gaming computers?....i wouldnt know.
 
the only bad thing about macs is that they're more expensive, and don't have as many games/programs available to them. other than that, they're far superior and much more robust than pc's
 
I know, you made it sound like Adobe was better in general. I love Adobe and Macromedia products, but when it comes to Video editing, no thanks.
 
exactly my thoughts. I use dreamweaver and fireworks every day and I love them but for editing fc is the best
 
it's the same damn intel core duo processor, there's no such thing as a mac processor or a windows processor. the only reason macs perform SLIGHTLY better than MOST pcs is because all their chipsets are proprietary and made with a little better quality (if at all). that's it, everything else is your average hodge-podge of non platform specific computer hardware. and what exactly can you do on a mac that windows pcs haven't touched? let me think...nothing.
 
like nikon vs. canon, it all comes down to personal preference and what your uses are going to be. i know plenty of people that love macs and osx but still have to use windows because they have a class or their employer requires them to use a windows only app - this'll be perfect for them. as for running XP full time, i don't quite see that, but it's a definate possiblity that a percentage of people who buy a mac and slap XP on to dual boot will use windows a good amount of the time.

i personally stopped using windows over a year ago because i was getting too bogged down with having to update virus definitions every other day, scan my hard drive for ad- and mal-ware, go into regedit to fix some bonehead problem that was caused by god knows what, and reformatting my drive every 6 months because my system would just get slower and slower by the day. that and creative applications (adobe and the like) run a lot better on macs than they do on their PC counterparts - spare me any comparisons or benchmarks, those don't hold up in the real world when you have a bunch of other applications (AIM, web browser, FTP, itunes, word and excel, etc.) open at the same time.

um, the whole iLife suite of apps, for one. Expose, Spotlight, Dashboard, do I have to go on?

ok they made it so people that say work on pcs, can use a certain microsoft program at home adn still own a mac(becuase theyre the best). before this people couldnt do this. when u install xp, you have a choice at boot up to use which os. doesnt effect comp virus wise at all.

i think its kinda lame but will help apple reel in mad money. because thats the only complaint people have with macs...compatibility.
 
please...i have widgets on my pc, complete with dashboard like functions. spotlight? no problem, pcs have google desktop and msn desktop. believe it or not, there are even programs like expose, but no one uses them.
 
oh and you can definitely view/edit photos on a pc, make websites on a pc, edit movies on a pc, compile dvds on a pc, and record music on a pc. so i'd say your argument is pretty groundless.
 
Well thats why they support windows now, so gamers no longer have an excuse not to buy and Mac
 
that's all fine and dandy, but it doesn't change the fact that about 90% of all graphic arts firms (excluding the SUPER corporate (read: fucking boring)) use macs.

as a matter of fact, most art and fashion design schools have it as the design department has 100% macs, business department has 100% PCs, never the tween shall meet (unless of course you're double majoring).
 
yea, that's true for the most part. however, that does not mean macs are all around superior to pcs like many of you make it out to be. they both can do the same things, and each has their own strengths.

and you guys do realize, that this thread is all backwards. bootcamp is going to benefit microsoft more than it will benefit apple. microsoft will sell more copies of windows than apple will sell computers to present non-mac users.
