Why You Should Like Barack Obama

yeah that was a pretty sick speach. i dont mind if he gets elected, i just hope i dont get screwed by the damn democrats worried about me riding my dirtbike instead of huge factories and suv's and all that other crap... i can live with a democratic government as long as they arent a bunch of pussy's.

a good speech isn't just well written, it has to be well performed, and obama is an excellent public speaker

so obama should become president because he can deliver a speech well? I love people who base their voting off of retarded things like these.

Check his voting record and come back.

He VOTED AGAINST WITHDRAWAL in June '06. Check out his voting record as a senator. He also voted repeatedly to fund the war.

He voted against the war in the first place.

Maybe he realizes no matter what our troops are stuck in Iraq and without the proper funding more lives could be spared.

dems wont win, they'll spend to much time blackmailing one another and put there campaign budgets into trash talking others in there own party.  its to bad most dems/liberals focus on almost mearly smearing there opponents instead of trying to keep the eye on the big prize

Maybe he does not realize that decreasing funding is not making our troops safer but giving Bush a reaon to keep them in there.

That was beautiful, really...To be able to memorize all of that and deliver it with such heart, that is great! I have a newfound liking for Barack now

Of course hes not going to vote against war funding. If bush were to keep them there but congress shuts off funding they would have to drop their guns and start throwing rocks because they cannot afford bullets. If they aren't going to pull our troops out we need to fund them with anything and everything they need so they will be alive when they do come home.

Not every positive thing has to have everything to do with him being president, being a good speaker is just one factor that he happens to excel at. This is about a speech, and if you can't realize that you really shouldn't comment in this thread. Your nitpicking is not contributing to anything at all, not to mention you're making a total ass of yourself. What I'm really trying to say is you should think before saying something idiotic again.

saying to not base how u like (and vote for) a guy by how well he delivers a speech written by someone else is idiotic? im sorry. please continue.

Seriously? Yes, he is a pretty good speaker, but that seemed he was spewing a lot of the normal political bullshit. You shouldn't vote for someone just because they can work the word "America" in to their speech 47 times. I think he is a relatively good candidate, but not because of that speech.

a president who does well at delivering himself, the country he represents, and his message is actually a pretty important aspect. since our current president seems to mumble like an idiot, other countries can have difficulty respecting his views, ideas, and our country in general. but not only is obama very charismatic, he has an excellent voting record and an equally impressive agenda for the nation.

Yes, when no one has said "LOL U SHUD VOTE FOR BOROCK CAUSE HES GOOD AT SPEEKING AND CAN MEMARIZE STUFF!" You're a moron. No one would vote for someone because they have a good memory. No one would vote for someone because they're a good public speaker. You'll note the title of this thread is not "why Barack Obama should be president". It's possible to identify the good qualities of a politician without implicitly arguing that that quality is the sole reason or ANY reason he deserves to be president. So yeah. That was pretty idiotic buddy. But I'm here to help.

when you boil down the modern presidency, its core is really public mobilization, i.e. public speaking/charisma. they deligate responsibility infinitely, and although "inspiring the american people" soudns retarded, the latest most effective president was basically a pure figurehead who had a unique ability to get the trust of the american people and tell them exactly what they want to hear. if you can build momentum for a policy, it doesn't matter what your congressman thinks, he has to vote for it. the example i was thinking of is Ronald Reagan, bush had 9/11, but Reagan just had the weakening fear of communism.

clinton also had some of that undefinable quality/charisma. it sounds retarded, but go ahead and analyze all political advertising, and thats essentially what they're trying to do.

Hilarious post, seriously keep that stuff up. I mean going to dictionary.com really sent the message home....

I saw a few people in here saying they have a new respect for Barak Obama based soley off this speach and people saying they would like him to be president.

I don't think we should care how our president speaks. I could personally care less if he was in a wheel chair and spoke like Stephen Hawking or even talked like he wanted a man stroking him at that instant. As long as he makes good decisions and makes America the roll-model country we used to be then he he is doing his job.

Saying that other country's respect us more because we have a president who speaks well is not true. If we lead by example and do things right, they will respect us. If we initiate a non interventionist foreign policy, if we limit our government and stop spying on our own people, if we get rid of secret prisons and torture, then country's will respect us. These are issues that matter. These are issues other country's can love or hate us for.

Obama spoke in front of a group who loves him, and he paused every ten seconds so they could cheer and he could remember what he had rehearsed a thousand times.

Good public speaking has it's place but should not be high on our list. Thats what the old ladies and stay at home moms can watch for. The only thing more annoying then people who actually think you should respect Obama more because of his speaking skills are sarcastic fucks like yourself.

http://www.theonion.com/content/video/in_the_know_candidates_compete

your contradicting yourself

foreign policy is directly affected by a presidents ability to speak. (or his committee to write talks)

good example... bill clinton. he didnt make smart decisions all of the time but had good foreign relations. he could talk a nun into gettin married.

and do you honestly think that we're the only country who "spies" as you say on our fellow nations?

i mean c'mon if everyone were in the blue about everyone... then north korea would have used a nuke by now. checks and balances on other countries is a good idea if you don't agree then your hypothetically thinking of "good moral decisions" rather than "tough decisions" which have to be made.

hmm not really. I don't see any connection between a non interventionist foreign policy and public speaking skills.

OBVIOUSLY we are not the only country who spies on its citizens, that is why we SHOULD be leading by example. that was my whole point.

and what is this about being "in the blue"? Sorry I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I don't understand what you are trying to say.

whether you like it or not, how somebody speaks greatly effects both how we feel about them and how the world feels about them. A good public speaker can shake the world and shape history. Think about some of the great speaches, the whole ask not what your country can do for you thing, Martin Luther King Jr. with the I have a dream speach, the list goes on and on. These people were viewed and remembered as heroes. What do we remember from dubya?

"fool me once, shame on, shame on you, fool me twice shame on, well we cant get fooled again" and "to many good docs are going out of buisness, to many obgyns arent able to practice their love all across the nation." and my favorite "nelson mandella is dead... (gasps in the audience) what I mean to say is that there are no mandellas in iraq, saddam killed them all"

so yes, public speaking skills are very important when it comes to how other countries view us

sure great speaking skills are a good thing to have. They are not very important in the long run though. Just think for a minute. The most well know modern day scientist is Stephen Hawking. The man talks through a computer. It takes him a few minutes to compose a couple sentences.

As I said, lets leave it to the uninformed to vote for the person who speaks the best.

And besides the point, watching that speech made me dislike Obama more than before. Imagine our president staring into the lights every ten seconds, waiting for applause and saying America in every sentence. It would definitely get old.

Same.  That was rediculous.  The lights, pump up jams, announcer, I felt like I was at a fucking hockey game.  Then he stands there, and says thank you 30 times, and then the rest of the speech he looks as if he has no idea what he is about to say, and is constantly focused on remembering the next line and not on his delivery.

What this thread has turned into is really bothering me.

JD never said since he is a good speaker he should be president. I'm pretty sure other people were'nt solely basing things off of one speech either.

I like Obama. I won't justify it here or now.

I'm going to point out one thing though, just because I can: Hitler was an awesome public speaker.

Note: I am not comparing Obama to Hitler, nor am I pro-Nazi.

I like to fuck with minds though.

I need to stop reading psyc...

Public speaking is paramount for a presidential candidate, otherwise how is he going to communicate policy to the people? If he can actually make a minority of ignorant Americans listen to what he has to say (I won't bring rhetoric into this), more power to him.

I like Barack Obama for a few reasons.

1. He wants to become the president of the USA, not of the democrats. He firmly believes in unifying the country, and I think that is something we are desperately in need of before we worry about trying to unify any other countries.

2. He is very gung-ho on helping out the environment. Even if global warming does not exist, helping the environment out can't hurt.

3. His inviting charisma and effort for peace is going to gain America back some respect in the world, something that Gdubs has lost for us.

4. He is going to do what is best for the people of America, not what makes him feel the most comfortable. George Bush's gay marriage policy is based on his Christian beliefs that being gay is wrong and it is a choice. Barack does not think that gay marriage is right, but he knows that marriage is a religious ritual, and it is up to the religious denomination to decide whether they will allow gay marriage or not.

5. He is not for the war in Iraq and is not interested in their foreign oil and wants to get out of there as soon as possible, while giving them a strong base to start their own government.

the announcer at the beginning (not pelosi) sounds like the stereotypical monster truck rally announcer. great speech though.

1. who would want to be president of just the democrats? that makes no sense at all.

2. So is everyone and if they aren't then they will just save us tax money.

3. I could care less about his charisma. just reminds me of clinton, someone who could lie easily.

4. So is every other democratic candidate (and some republicans)

5. Same with every other democrat (and one republican)

so based on these criteria you could vote for almost every other guy in the running for president.

1. Do you think that white conservatives (a large population of the republican party) in this country want a liberal black man as their president? Obama wants to respect those who believe differently than he, and unlike what George Bush has done, he wants to create trust with the other party so he can be an effective president and again unify the United States of America.

2. Tax money is worth every penny to help out our environment out. If you don't think our environment needs help now then you've got another one coming.

3. I would love to be regarded as one of the Best Countries in the world again, and Obama is the guy wthat will gain us foreign respect, unlike the stubborn W.

4. You are right about this one, that every other democratic candidate has basically the same plan.

5. You are right about this one too.

Even though you are right about 4 and 5, and all democratic candidates are supportive of 2, reasons 1 and 3 separate him from the pack and make him the best candidate to lead our country.

you keep comparing him to Bush. OBVIOUSLY he has some better ideas then Bush has, but then again, so do all the other candidates. You should not be comparing him to Bush, you should be comparing him to other presidential candidates. while non are perfect, Obama is far from the best.

also I leave the environmental issues up to you, that is your opinion.

See, the thing is if ANY democratic canidate is elected this will happen.  Conservatives don't whine like little bitches when opposition is elected, they leave that for the democrats to do.
