how can they just parade him around and make him into the olympics' face of freeskiing and then not take him to sochi? tom would have been such a great ambassador for our sport. i am disappoint.
 
i hope tom throws a triple in his xgames run and wins and makes the US team look stupid for not picking him. pretty pissed after all that he has done for advertising/interviews/hype he doesnt even get to fucking go.
 
I'm so fucking bummed Tom isn't going to the Olympics. And I'm not even American. He's a great (if not the best) slopestyle rider out there. I don't know the other riders too well, but I honestly can't imagine they're on the same level Tom is...

But seriously, Wally & Dylan Ferg got robbed after doing everything they needed to get to the Olympics. How the fuck do you send Tom around AS THE FACE OF US FREESKIING on national & international TV, then stiff him? It's so ass backwards. Thanks Obama!

At least he'll be able to focus all his effort on filming from here on out, and truly that's the part of this sport that matters the most. Our sport needs the creativity that is only found in video parts. This whole focus on the Olympics IS pushing the sport in the wrong direction IMHO.
 
simon is a b...., couldnt care less about him. but the fact that Tom isn't skiing for th US is fuckin unbelievable. he has been the main face in the sport for so long, been considered as one of the best skiers in the world for several years, he has been the skier of the year 2-3times? He changed the community, peoples vision about skiing, everything from the grabs, to landings and even how we dress!

lets just put it this way. the croud would've shoutet louder for toms third place, than for dick gapers first place. (i dont really hate dick gaper, i just think this is bullshit)

if tom got a medal, not only would the US celebrate, the whole world would've been stoked, because he is, IN FACT, the biggest name of our sport to this date. and freakin hero. I'm working as a skiing coach on my spare time, and I dont think there's one kid my group that doesnt love Tom, and I train over 30 kids a week.

 
tho i dont actually care. only reason i watch competitions, is for the same reason i watch the top rated edits. its fun to watch huge tricks. or new tricks.
 
The majority of you are saying "he would have been a great face for freeskiing", but what if there is no face? What if the public just doesn't give, it's the first one, no-one cares about Gian Simmen, the winner of the first Olympic snowboard Halfpipe, he's not a household name. THere's no evidence any of the ones who may podium at the O will become a face for it. Maybe next Olympics you'll get your Shaun White

im still so mad and so confused. Look like NS is the last place you'll find true freeskiers that know what the epitomy of the sport we all love. When a community such as NS shares such a similiar opinion, ITS FUCKING RIGHT. the judges couldn't have fucked up more, such a shame that myself and others on here know more about the sport than some of the "olympic coaches"-- wallisch don't need a coach
 
I never realized what a deep, virulent, face-turn-red-and-blow-steam-out-your-ears hatred so many of you felt for Goepper.

So you don't like the way he sometimes speedchecks while riding switch, is that really worth of such a strong dislike? I mean really...
 
no one's even talking about geopper, shut up. he deserves to go he's on his game right now. This threads about wallisch and yes, I'd much rather watch wallisch ski than geopper
 
Damn everyone needs to chill out, 100 bucks this is all due to an injury. Even if it's not that big of a deal we're not going to send him out to represent America if he's not 100% healthy.
 
and this is new to you? I think you're confused. No one can make an actual argument that Geopper shouldn't be in the olympics- the kid's killing it right now and has a pretty solid chance at taking gold. It's just a shame that the world won't get to see Tom wallisch in their lifetime, he gives most spectators of our sport half chubs, if not full on hard wood

A little bit, yeah. I know a lot of people don't like his style, but I am a little surprised that in a thread that is all about Tom not going to the olympics and not at all about Goepper going that so many people still feel the need to hate on him for no reason. The fact that nobody is arguing Goepper isn't going just makes it worse; people are basically saying "this is bullshit Tom isn't going, oh, and by the way, fuck Nick Goepper, just cause"
 
Walfisch not on the Olympic team is some BS. He is the face of the sport and you could argue that he pushed the sport of freestyle skiing enough into the limelight to even get it into the Olympics.
 
i really hope that all four team members go to X games, and wally smokes them all. That'd be funny as fuck just to make the coaches look like retards
 
A few years ago Sammy Carlson would have seemed to be a 100% lock and now he doesn't even come up in conversations.

First i wold like to compliment Steve for such a great posts. Well written and thought out and from heart. Then I would like to con graduate all of you with such great support, its really cool to see everyone care so much about someone in out beloved community.

Second. Someone really fucked up here. Tom like many have said before was the face of US freesking, he modeled the jackets, he did the press conferences and commercials. Like what the fuck you literally destroyed the entire system. I really want to know what all of his sponsors think. TNF must be pretty pissed probably along with Verizon. Does Joss have any major sponsors like that.

Thirdly. I really want to know what Tom thinks of all this, the amount of anger he must have for the IOC and the US olympic committee must be through the roof. I also want to know what other industry heads think of this situation. Steve give us the details.
 
stupid decision on the coaches part.. even if tom didn't do so hot in the qualifiers you know he woulda sent it in the olympics. hope he throws down in xgames and scrapes them all to make the coaches regret their decision

God there are some funny posts. for all the dumb shit NS has on it, threads like this make me

proud to be a skier and make me love NS.

Not many people have said it but there could be other factors on Wallisch's side, (injury), hard to bash on legends (for those of you old enough) like Skogen and other coaches without that info.

I agree Tom deserves to be picked as an ambassador of the sport (who could win gold) over a younger skier based on that skiers recent results. you don't take Derek Jeter out of the playoffs cause he is in a slump, you play him and he then comes through because he is a veteran who wins when it counts.

And saying toms run hasn't changed in 2 years is not important. his style is still so good compared to others. Heaven forbid the Olympics focus on that. Style.

Be interesting to see discretionary picks in the history of the Olympics in other sports. Is the person most likely to win the gold based off of recent results always picked? I have a feeling not. I bet some people like Brian Boitano and Apollo Ono slipped into their final Olympics on discretionary picks in the past because they are veterans with big names.

People talking about triples? From what I have heard about Sochi snowpack, doubt there are gonna be jumps for those sort of antics set up.
 
To be fair this rule doesn't really apply to Wallisch-related discussions. You can ask just about any question about skiing and Tom and predict with 100% certainty that Newschoolers will be homogenous in its pro-Tom stance. I don't think a consensus here really proves anything, even though I happen to agree with it (again with the caveat that if he's torn something and isn't going to be 100%, I get it).
