Why Wallisch should be going to the Olympics

The gif is so accurate.

But really, though, I'm depressed that Tom isn't going to the 'Lympic Games. Same with Dumont, they've been a huge part of freeskiing in the U.S. within the past 5-10 years, yet they're not chosen as Coaches' Pick just because they don't have enough points. In all honesty, Torin going to the Olympics as a coaches' pick has more potential of getting on the podium than the current coaches' pick for men's slopestyle (no offense to Joss). Freesking is now turning into aerials to the point where I'm not sure whether to call it freeskiing.

I'll be rooting for ABM, Andreas Hatveit, and E'Dollo, including the entire Canadian Freeskiing Team, too.

Hyped for the people who made the team especially joss!! Always thought tom would have been on it and should have been tho! But all in all I feel everything in our sport is subjective and shouldn't be judged in the first place. You can't simply judge by the time or distance like other Olympic sports.

For what it's worth, these are the folks heading the U.S. Freeskiing Team:

Coaches

Mike Jankowski, U.S. Freeskiing Halfpipe and Slopestyle Head Coach

Andy Woods, U.S. Freeskiing Pro Halfpipe Coach

Skogen Sprang, U.S. Freeskiing Pro Slopestyle Coach

DJ Montigny, U.S. Freeskiing Rookie Slopestyle Coach

Ben Verge, U.S. Freeskiing Rookie Halfpipe Coach

U.S.

Freeskiing Staff

Jeremy Forster, U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Director

Abbi Nyberg, U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Program Manager

Kate Morton, U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Team Manager

Luke Byers, U.S. Freeskiing Halfpipe Technician

Dave Coombs, U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Slopestyle Technician

Laura Tietjen, U.S. Freeskiing Physical Therapist

- The only person that I have seen on the freeskiing scene is Skogen Sprang, who has been on the cover of Powder and Freeze + filmed with TGR and Inspired.

- If it's the same Mike Jankowski (well, what are the odds?), he seems to be the former snowboard coach at the 2010 Olympics.

Here's Skogen in a film for Inspired (actual skiing starts around 3:00, before that they are recovering a lost sled):

PS. Have anybody seen any statements from Tom yet?

This is such bull shit. Tom deserves to go. He fucking modeled the Team USA outfit and now he isn't going.. Honestly the Olympics are shit. He deserved to go more than anybody. No disrespect to the other guys or anything. But not fucking cool Olympic guys, not cool at all

Andy Woods is awesome. He was in a bunch of Level 1 movies back in the day

My friend who isn't on ns has some thoughts to share-

Conspiracy: The Americans put Schlopy on the team, he

qualifies first and has the last run. He starts straight airing the course as

Nick Gaper and his sister make out at the finish line. Schlopy approaches the

money booter and winds up, what the fuck could he possibly be thinking about?

His takeoff is immaculate and the right side 2160 rotation is so fucking

violent that the competitors are temporarily blinded. Schlopy sets it down in

true Olympic fashion and looks Gaper straight in the eye. Time starts reversing

itself. It was the Americans plan all along. Wallisch descends from the heavens

in a Versace x north face collab. He slays a run that would've made tanner hall

quit riding backcountry. The switch triples are being dropped like a clumsy

waitress, his afterbang registers a 4.20 on the Richter scale and wallisch

takes the fucking gold. Every Ns member creams themselves upon realizing order

has been restored to the skiing world.

-seems reasonable to me

THE OLYMPICS ARE FOR PEOPLE THAT NEED TO PROVE SOMETHINGTOM IS SO MUCH BIGGER than one event, on one day.

Terje didn't competed in the Olympics for this reason. Within the sport to the people that matter they're bigger than the event itself.

I'd rather see a classic creative Tom edit with the attitude & style he created 100x more than I want to see him throw a boring robotic run down the same contrived course as everyone else. Flip it on them Tom!

Tom Wallnuts not going to the Olympics is tantamount to news of Paul Walker getting killed in a car crash.

I don't believe it now

I won't believe it tomorrow

or in a week

not until the olympics are over

I have a few things to say. They most likely have been said before.

1. I always thought Steve was some punk ass goon. Now my mouth is full of my own shit. Steve you wrote from the heart and I will always respect you for that. But who am I, just some kid on the internet.

2. The Olympics corruptes and destroys good sports like skiing. Look at all of the greed that is associtated with any Olympics. Trace it back to ancient Greece, people killed each other to win.

Skiing has no place in the Olympics. We have a special sport at our disposal. We offer to help one another out all the time. At least I do. I think that skiing is a very basic thing. Put some boards on your feet and skid around for a few hours. Yet look where it brought all of us. To the top of some Olympic podium? Fuck no. It brought me to the top of the lift hundreds if not thousands of times. Its brought us all different things, some glory, some pain, some pure joy, some injury, and some death. But what binds us is not some dumbass gold medal, not some stupid fucking comp. But its the feeling of family that we feel when we see a friend on the hill, at a party, in the halls at school. Skiing is a magical thing and is the best thing in the world. But one thing that it should not be is taken far enough to hurt the ones that helped take it to where it is now.

Tom deserves to go to the olympics. He is the only person who every year puts out an insane urban segment and last year expanded to backcountry while competing at a extremely high level in slope. if you ask a non skier do you know any pro skiers they would most likely say Wallish. Hopefully Tom puts out a banger segment this year with level 1 and 4bi9. Go ABM and the rest of the canadian team!

I remember when I saw some of the first Olympic commercials and when The North Face dropped the USA jackets with Tom's face all over the place. And they did a athlete profile on him with him wearing Olympic gear. It seems like bull shit that they kind of led him on making himself and everyone believe he was going to make it, which he should have, then tell him no.

This was a poor decision, and one the US Ski Team should openly own. Read: explain yourselves.

I honestly think Tom should be on that team - if for nothing more than to add an Olympic medal to his collection (which I'm confident he would have done). I'm interested to hear the coaches/staff's thoughts on the decision and how they came to the names they did - or in this case did not.

If this was indeed the most sensible (albeit difficult) decision, it should be easy to explain and for others to understand. I think it's clear most people (based on what we know) would have decided otherwise and don't understand this decision. Why such difference of opinion? What did you see that we didn't?

Lastly, the Olympics are good for skiing and I feel they always have been. But, as JLev said so well, it's just not what skiing is all about. It's so much more than one even every four years. Skiing has its place in the Olympics and vice versa. The Olympics help bring new interest and money (yes, that green stuff businesses use to make the stuff we need to ski). Keep in mind this is the first year for both pipe and slope in the Olympics. More mistakes will be made. Just gotta get it right moving forward.

US Ski Team - your thoughts?

Strange selections like this and ultimately strange results always happen with the Olympics.

Although it is a real a shame Wallisch didn't get in there's ultimately nothing anyone can do about it. If he didn't meet the objective criteria then the US team don't have to and probably won't explain themselves.

https://www.newschoolers.com/readnews/44131.0/In-His-Own-Words--Tom-Wallisch

reading this article made me pretty bummed. you should read it anyways though.

LOL his hair in that video is gold.

But i am really really bummed on the olympics right now. no simon or tom. GAYYYY

Look at the bright side. Bobby, Gus, and Goepper will probably not compete at the X games and he is sure to win an event we sort of respect?

The support this thread shows for Wally is incredible, does even a single person not like him? Tom has to be the most well liked athlete in any sport pretty much ever, and for good reason. Still cannot believe he isn't going. Can't wait to see what NS comes up with to fuck with whoever was in charge of the selection in a few days

WALLISCH DESERVES TO GO RANT RANT RANT

I get he deserves, trust me I am just as pissed as the next guy but being a pussy and ranting wont do shit

I just saw an Olympic commercial with Tom in it. So sad. He should be there. Its sure nice to see all the support for Tom. He's definitely a champion in our eyes.

damn this sucks. honestly im just pumped for Henrik to throw up some Wu Tang signs and bark at the camera men. If tom's not there, bring on edoggo

>USA is scared of bomb threats during Olympics

>Don't send Tom this year

>All other competitors die from bombs and slopestyle is cancelled for 2014 Olympics

>Tom returns 4 years later and takes first ever gold Olympic slope medal for team USA

It's a conspiracy people....

No but in all seriousness this sucks big time... Tom was the Olympic poster boy for shit sake and then he doesn't make the cut in the end? And for no real big reason either? Classic Olympics screwing athletes over.
