Why the fuck is it so warm???

At least the hill is open. It's still depressing, but at least the skis got a chance to touch some snow. Rather, they got the chance to touch slush, but it's closer to snow than rocks are...

hahaha almost? it got depressing a month ago...

but im still happy to be on skis, and the park is pretty damn good considering what they have to work with.

anyone know when the regular whistler park will be open again?

It's looking a bit better up there today, and a decently friendly forecast. Fingers crossed.
I kinda wish I could be at Revelstoke now. 93cm base for opening day today, tons of it pow, and more snow predicted. Looks tasty.

apparently not the best time to have 3 pairs of skis fatter than 110mm underfoot.

and yeah Chris, don't mind if I do.

meh, at least the freezing level isn't consistently above 2200 meters anymore, and the locals always get more snow than whistler if the freezing level is low enough (which it should be in Friday), so hopefully they'll be opening up soon

Well now we're at the other extreme. Alpine lows around -20 until monday... yeesh. Is there actually anything to ski on for early next week? I'm going up monday midday for a few days.

well heres the cold weather, in fact really cold weather. except no fuckin precipitation. at least they can make snow like crazy, but thats only on groomed runs, i wanna ski some muttthaphuckkin powder!

-30 at my house today, -37 last night. i went outside for 30 seconds and my lungs hurt.

-25 yesterday. I forgot to wear underwear and there is a huge hole in the crotch of my pants. One HH underlayer isnt enough.

You know that feeling when your earlobes are burning from the cold? ya.....

Now it's warm again?!?! Some crazy inversion type thing all over BC eh? 18 degrees on the shore mountains right now. 9 degrees on the peak at whis. Spring sessions in January, gotta love them.

yeah i was just gonna bump this thread...once again...why the fuck is it so warm???

if this keeps up (it was +12 today) our already thin base isnt going to last long and we are going to be in serious trouble. but in the meantime, spring park skiing is fun.

Looks like it'll be gradually coming down to 1500m by wednesday. Course then it actually needs to snow.

sooooo hot today. went to seymour at like 11... it was 13 degrees!!!!!! also mad busy. got up to the top of brocton and looked back into the bc and there was actually this huge black blob of ppl bootpacking to the peak. it was pretty fun though. thanks to the people that built the little hip. we tricked it up and seshed a little. when we got back to the car, we actually couldn't get our shit off fast enough. i was sweating so hard. i hope we get some more snow though, we need it so bad. at least this bout of hot has really fixed up the snow pack (locally).

You guys should consider yourselfs lucky.

Mt washington has about 50cm of snow, even though they claim to have 100cm. Lying Bastards.

I can honestly say I've never skied in temps so warm in January before. Saw probably a dozen people in sports bras/bikinis/no shirts (guys), and shorts. They were probably overdoing it, but still. Super warm. If it's not going to be powder, at least the sun is nice. The park must have been going off.

^ The base is melting though, and those warm temperatures won't do anything about the weak layer that's on the very bottom of the snowpack ... but I do enjoy spring skiing!

1st-4th is looking good for decent epic falls.

Is that going to do any favours for the snowpack situation though? (i.e. another intense fall)
