Why the fuck is it so warm???

I found snow!

No, its south of bralorne. Just got off the ice cap few hours ago and its dumping up there. Wouldn't recommend the drive though, lots of the bridges are washed out. I had to self winch out twice. Suuuuper sketch. Good to know there's a decent base up top though, even if the valley is bone dry.

im starting to think that global warming might be a big part of the problem. the freezing level should not be 800 meters above the peak of whistler in mid november.

yes, global warming is certainly the explanation.

vancouver has never, ever had late winters like this

the last two winters weren't earlier and longer than usual

and if you were to look at a chart over the last five years you would definitely, without a doubt see an alarming downward trend of average winter temperatures

i think dT might be something like 0.0001 degree C.

Actually, the frequency of shorter winters is indeed increasing, so are the El nino/La nina patterns. Bad winters more often = global warming, which 5 years from now would most likely show up on a chart.

It's not because we still have good winters like the past 2 that it's not happening...

Back on topic, let it snow!

YA apperetnly global warming is suppose to bring more precipitation to the coast for the next fifty years, we just need to get lucky and have it fall as snow and not rian, thursday should be good hopefully thats the begining of a good cycle and brings us even more the next days after.

^global warming isnt true dude. its all a load of shit to suck money out. our planet is always changing going cold and warm for billions of years. but anyway suppose to get 40cm on thursday. the forecast is cold and snow for the next 13 days!!! are season is saved

I lol'd. fl on thursday is 1600 m, which isn't even half way down to the bottom of red... Friday Saturday temps appear to be even warmer. But here's to hoping.

^wow, have you seen the world lately? global warming now universally accepted in the scientific community as a FACT. Even the most single minded conservatives accept it now. Whether you want to believe it or not, global warming is in effect already, and if we don't do anything about it, we as skiers will have to deal with drastic changes in coming years, maybe not in ten, but if you care at all about the next couple generations of skiers, then you'd acknowledge it and start to make a difference.

It is unseasonably warm. It happens. We've been spoiled with 2 really good season in the past. Please don't let this turn into a global warming debate or I'll have to get someone in here to melt the interweb.

last year was supernormally cold, but had a rainy summer.

this year thus far has been dismally warm, but it was a great summer.

take your highs and lows as they go.

our warm winter cannot be directly attributed to global warming, but you have to be an ostrich to not think human civilization isn't changing the ecosystem.

Sorry dude, Dan has barely been on NS since he left for the far east. He`s somewhere in Laos right now... afraid you`re SOL on melting the internet for the time being.

well i give up. our winter is FUCKED. im depressed. our season opener was today last year, and this year the forecast doesnt even look good going into dec. Anyone want to buy my JJ's ?

Calm down dude, you don't want to do anything rash here. We still haven't got to opening day, and if the pow arrived a couple weeks late, it's just that, a couple weeks. It's a long season, and you don't actually want to part with those JJs.

Yes he does. Are they the new ones in 185? Because I know two people who are interested in a pair.

Haha, when is the freezing level gonna make up its mind eh? That same day is meant to bring some snow though as well, maybe it'll cancel out.

i missed the webcam today, but saw a screenshot of it. it looked like got ate a plate of tacos, took a shit, and covered the mountain in his toilet paper. i want to cry. this is terrible. especially when i need something to look forward to the most, i am going through the roughest time in school right now. my salvation is being washed away by fucking rain.

we're saved!

Thursday.. Snow. Snowfall accumulation 20 to 30 cm. Freezing level

1500 metres.

Friday.. Periods of snow. Snowfall accumulation 15 to 25 cm. Freezing

level 800 metres.

at least now they'll be able to get a few groomers open to Emerald, maybe even red too!

yeah, it looks a bit better now. hopefully it will get frigid next week and we get some solid base.

i dont think we'll be skiing the lower mountain for a while though

Meh the only thing on the lower mountain worthwhile is lower insanity. And you need a lot of snow for that anyway so it is very rare to be skiing it in early December, let alone November.

I am in a slightly better mood as it looks like we will at least get snow that sticks around for a couple days, maybe we can even start to build a base!

The forecasts say 10-20cm Thursday and 15-25 Friday with reasonable freezing levels. Although high pressure is going to roll in after that temps looks to stay consistent (not low, but low enough 1000-1500 metres). The consistency is why I am optimistic. The 3000 metre freezing level spikes were killing me (and I'm sure everyone else). Still don't think they'll make the 27th, but fuck something is better than nothing at this point.

The one time I hit it last season was first week of december. Needless to say, it was untracked. It was a bit more challenging than mid-season but I barely scratched my skis, and a lot of sections were more "pillowy", as in dicier coverage meant more jumping around. It's always so hard to decide on a low FL pow day, is it better to get to the alpine and line up, or do a lap of Lower Insanity? Life gives you tough options sometimes.

I may as well beat myself up with a stick since this is all quite far off...

uh, Ullr, what are you doing? fizzle out on thursday, now only 10 cm... FL back up to 1800 m on Friday... give us a fucking break.

^yup. lets just hope that its just a late start. on the bright side the temps are finally staying low!!! and i work for the mountain and its FORSURE opening on the 27th... even if its 1 run on man made snow.
