Why is Neon Popular?

Do you think neon outerwear and colorful outerwear is popular because it shows up well in edits and photos compared with dark greens, browns, grays, whites, etc. which don't really show up as well cause they blend in with the background?

i think you nailed it, no one wants to watch a guy who looks like a rock ski a big mountain line

BUT, as much as I hate to say it, filming/photographing athletes with neon colors is a lot easier/better than shooting earth tones.

this. especially with skateboarding, seems like everyone is always wearing all black all the time which makes exposing for them really difficult especially under midday sun. can't wear 18% grey for once?

that said, i have grey pants and a black coat and a brown helmet.

the real answer is pretty complicated. but i believe that it has to do with the counter-culture of the 70's originaly skiing was a very bland sport and people in that time dressed up to do anything. bright neon colors was a rebellious way for skiers to get notices. because they were countercultural, they were cool so people started to wear neon colors to be cool and get noticed. neon colors are now come from that movement.

this could be total bullshit. i just made it up, but it sounds right.

I used to tend towards brighter outerwear to get noticed by my friends and such. Last year I had neon blue pants and everyone always said I was easy to spot from the lift and they never lost me in heavy snowfall. Plus it makes ya easier to find in the unlucky event of avalanche. That said though, this year I'm rockin mostly black.

Bright outwear has been a lot less popular in the past few years, like TBC era it was so cool to have bright shit, but earth tones/black and white have been on the up in the past couple years for sure.

THIS is why it popular!

I would say the opposite.

With the exception of the Neon oakley pants Tanner was wearing in that movie, outerwear def used to be less flashy(from twin tip invention to about 2004?).

Siver Cartel was all earth tones, and so was most everyone else's lines at the time.

Now you have jiberish, Armada space orgasm, saga, first drop, etc. Those lines look more and more like a bag of skittles each year.

Also look at the direction of ski bases. It's like companies just remembered they could do flashy bases with graphics that pop, not just topsheets. K2 shit is wild now.

I DONT KNOW IF YOU NOTICED BUT THERE'S BEEN A SOLID DECLINE IN BRIGHT ASS COLOURS OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

and my point was, even the pros weren't wearing neon.

Tanner in those pants, and Jon in J.lindeberg at the Open. That's pretty much it.

What other pro rocked neon stuff back then? Every oakley suit i can remember up until about 07 was more earthy than neon.

stupid argument regardless.

NOT A LOT OF PROS ARE WEARING NEON BUT THEY ROCK A LOT OF BRIGHT COLOURS. IF YOU WATCHED THE 2010 JOI, THERE IS ALMOST NOBODY WEARING DARK STUFF, IT'S ALL SOLID BRIGHT COLOURS.

THE LAST SEASON THOUGH, AND THE NEW GEAR FOR THIS YEAR IS ALL DIFFERENT

Strangely enough, I haven't noticed neon being popular for the last 3-4 years? Seriously, people don't wear that shit, your question is kinda invalid.

it's just trends man.. bright colors were the shit way back when, around the early 2000s it was more about earth tones and stuff, then stuff got bright again, now it's calming down again. just silly trends, that's all

but it is true that sometimes people wear certain colors to show up better in a shot. but that's not the reason bright colors go in and out of style
