Why does everyone insist on calling it switch.

It's not switch it's backwards. Switch is something you do when you're skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, wakeboarding and all the other sports with one board. Skiing on the other hand has two directions, forwards and backwards. I know it sounds cooler to say switch but don't kid yourself. It will never be as cool as snowboarding switch.

Hey guyzz, what me do this sweeet backwards five hundred forty degree spin while grabbing the tail of my ski while i cross my tips!!1!!!!11 it's gonna be soooo extreme!!!!!1!1!!

its switch. deal with it. if you continue to call it "backwards" me and everyone else will think youre a n00b

There is a physical phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering

that causes light to scatter when it passes through particles that

have a diameter one-tenth that of the wavelength (color) of the light.

Sunlight is made up of all different colors of light, but because of

the elements in the atmosphere the color blue is scattered much more

efficiently than the other colors When you look at the sky on a clear day, you can see the sun as a

bright disk. The blueness you see everywhere else is all of the atoms

in the atmosphere scattering blue light toward you. Because red light,

yellow light, green light and the other colors aren't scattered nearly

as well, you see the sky as blue.

and skiing backwards is called switch because we try to make it cooler than it really is

HAY I DID A BACKWARDS FIVE HUNDRED FORTY DEGREE LEFT HORIZONTAL ROTATION!!!!

or

hey i did a switch 5 son! ugh!

Exact same situation I was going to post. And to OP why call the bannas sister a wooden stool?

because everyone knows what it means, along with fakie, or cab, so who cares. If you have problems with naming tricks it should be with stuff like kangaroo or hexo flips, since you can't know what it is unless you see it, call them double flats and stuff.
go ahead and call it a backwards 5 if you want, I have called it that before, people know what you are talking about.

Because we do deal with it, your not going to change an instustries way of doing things. And if you want to get technical snowboarding and wakeboarding don't have a sw stance, because your strapped in it would be backwards or forwards.

(Sorry for being bitchy but this question comes up like every other week it seems it just gets annoying)

switch makes sense, rad the definition that someone posted

its just like saying whys it called a pretzel? when that has no relivance to sporting at all.

if a skater's stance was left foot forward(regular), right foot forward would be switch for them right?

so your pretty much saying that when we are going to hit a rail untatural, you want us to say im going to hit the rail switch?

Its switch due to said reasons above but. whats up with this first we have to namehave a specific name for sliding a rail "skier grind"? now changing switch are noobs are trying to change all the names of these common tricks. I believe its called digression at this point not progression.

win.
but, dude, be real, snowboarding switch is not. that. cool. I can't even tell if a snowboarder is going switch

Is this whole thread a big attempt to troll us? Because, you can't seriously expect to anyone to use such a shitty term to replace the already perfect term we have appropriated

agreed. there's a decent amount of threads these days questioning well estabished concepts. switch is switch, i know we aren't snowboarders but we don't call our bindings something different because they don't look like snowboard bindings. we may use some of the same words but it's our own spin on the word so people need to forget about the snowboarding influence (although not altogether because it is influential) for a second and realize that.

let just think of how that would sound....
"And (name) just did a switch double cork 10"
OR
"And (name) just did a backwards double cork 10"

..... i will let you decide for yourself on which one sounds...well normal.

Nice reference.

I remember when Pep got up in arms about this term too, Im pretty sure he settled on calling it fakie for awhile. At least I think so but I could be wrong. It was in an article in skeeze awhile ago.

Switch-to change direction or course; turn, shift, or change
when going going forward to back wards it is a change of direction
congrats your retarded!!!

when talking to snowboarders i often refer to my "switch" skiing as fakie...why don't we all call it fakie?
