Why do so many snowboarders hate us?

I'm a snowboarder, and I love skiers and skiing... And my crew is mostly skiers. Haters are ignorant.

It's always a hard sell trying to break it to people how much Shaun White sucks. He's just marketed by the media SO WELL, so everyone think's he's fucking God. Ugh, just counting down the days until the Shaun White craze fades away.

I keep seeing this idea that skiing isn't as cool, why is it hated ect, repeated all over NS and it's scaring me. This mentality has been growing for a couple years. The reason skiing isn't as respected and gets the hate is because skiiers generally as a group are not self respecting. Get some self confidence, stand up for yourselves, and stick together!

Sticking together is not commiserating on the internet, but actually being friendly and getting the stoke up while skiing. Skiing culture has this seriously wack part where everyone is so busy pretending they are getting sponsored next week, they have no time to talk or engage in pleasantries on the drop. Pretending to be so cool individually that you don't talk to anyone but your own crew in the park is pulling the culture apart and making it weak. The sickest kids throw down and are friendly to boot. Poser ass kids think they are too good to even say "what up" or discuss the speed for jump 3. Take note.

I take exception to the quote above because skateboarders dislike bikers at the skatepark because the bikes are fast, heavy and when you crash into each other (which is inevitable at a skatepark) they fuck your shit up. Skiing as a culture is closer to rollerblading in it's self depreciating nature. Snowboard/Skiing is the Skateboard/rollerblade thing: When rollerblading was big, rollerbladers as a culture never had self respect and always looked up to skateboarding and wondered why they got the hate.

You get the hate for acting like a bitch, and skiiers as a group are acting like whiny bitches. Fuck saying, "why don't they like us" and go out and crush it. Who gives a fuck what snowboarders are doing, YOU AREN'T A SNOWBOARDER.

Get learned. We have history and culture of our own. Wayne Wong. Glen Plake and Scott Schmidt. Mike Wilson throwing the first dub corks. No one has seen a sicker thing than Candide's tailgrab corks. The military isn't cruising around in the mountains on snowboards. Skiing is its own culture. Yes, there are mountains where snowboarding isn't even allowed. Old ladies wear fur coats at Deere Valley. Racers wear dork ass speed suits. One time people were really into ski ballet, have you tried any lately on the way back to the lift - maybe a double pole plant frontflip? Embrace that shit, don't try to hide from it.

I was going to say rollerblading, but I couldn't bring myself to think skiing is as shitty of a sport as rollerblading. I'm sorry to all the rollerbladers, but I hate the sport and generally respect it just as much as I respect scootering... I do hate a lot of skiers though, I mainly ride with snowboarders and I like it way better

The main reason shnowboarders hate us is because we haven't progressed to their level. Beyond that, I'm not really sure. Snowbaorders generally hate hate hate, and perform lackluster tricks (snowboarders on the reg, not them superpros!). I'm not sure. Drunk post ftw.

Snowboarders have every right to hate on skiers. 90% of park skiers are dumb ass hoodrats who want to look like a pro they watched in an edit last weekend and arent original or creative at all. i love skiing but you kids are fucking destroying it.

Some people are just snobby assholes, it's the people with the egos in either sports that are the ones mocking each other out of kindergarten. Nothing will change, your just wasting precious pretty pixels my furry educated friends.

Its funny because I think the same thing about 95% of snowboarders, not necessaily due to edits. Snowboarders in general aren't good (partly due to the fact that they've got the Shaun White backing, fuck yea, snowboardings cool!) in general, and sit on their asses half the time. A lot of skiers are just learning (aren't original) but at least hit jumps/rails before snowboarders dust of their little panties.

Too many skiers take what should be something fun way to seriously. At least what I've experienced in the Tahoe area most the snowboarders are super chill and just there to screw around and have fun while all the skiers are just lapping the parks and pushing themselves just to get bragging rights on the next guy (aka more rights to act like a douche to everyone else) and to get a better chance to "make it" as a skier. I don't blame snowboarders for the hate cause I kinda hate the park rat mentality too. You don't "make it" as a skier when or if you get sponsored, you "make it" as a skier when you're having fun doing what you love. So yeah I agree with what that guy said ^

You see, everybody needs a little more pow. Pow is the answer to everything. Skiing pow with a few of your buddies on an untracked blue bird day is one of the best things in this world. Nomatter how "extreme" it is you will have fun just fuckin' around. The park isn't destroying skiing either, its all of the people with the huge egos who think they are better than everyine else. Skiing is for fun. Remember that.

YOU get learned! The whole: snowboarders don't like skiers thing stems from back in the early years of snowboarding. They come around all stoked on their new sport and having fun but skiers won't let them play on their slopes. Eventually some ski areas warm up to the idea, but will only let them on certain trails, usually throwing them into the "snowboard park".

Snowboarding pretty much shows skiing what's up and skiing almost dies, yet snowboarders are still treated like punk ass teenagers... wait another decade or so and all of a sudden skiers want into the snowboard park, and eventually just help themselves to the little area that snowboarders had to call their own. the skiers suck, don't understand park etiquette, and are generally not wanted. That's when I got on the scene. Things were a bit more hostile 10 to 15 years ago then they are now.

All this "hatred" between sports these days is simply just teenage angst. Everyone needs an enemy, someone to blame.

the whole "only weekend warriors hate skiers" thing is not true. i'm willing to bet like 95% of pro snowboarders hate skiing. they have their reasons, and if you look at how most skiers dress, ski, and act (especially in the park), you'd understand why they hate it so much.

I ski in quebec, so i find it's mostly skiiers. The snowboarders i do meet tend to have no problem with skiing but sometimes joke around about tall tee's and shit. Which is fine cause i make wise cracks too. But because i live on the border, theres one hill closer to ottawa where all the noobs tend to go... and i recieved the most hate ive ever seen by kids who could barely make it down the hill .... .
just something ive noticed personally.
Alot of snowboarders i know have switched to skiing, and love it.
People tend to protect what they do and where they're from.

I'm a die hard snowboarder (since i was 7, im planning on swiching to skiing next season), and i love skiers. Thats the whole reason i'm on ns, because the skiing community & culture is so much better than snowboarding. i subscribe to freeskier, watch all ski movies, and follow ski comps. I dont know why the other snowboarders hate on skiers, if it werent for you guys snowboarding wouldnt be around.

Little kids don't like skiers but when they get older they switch over. I went from boarding to skiing and I haven't ever regretted it

Pretend you were a boarder sitting on your ass waiting to hit a rail....all of a sudden 4 skiers looking steezy as hell all throw down pretzeling the shit out of the rail. you look down and soon realize how restricted you are with your two feet strapped together and then proceed to 50-50 the rail...of course you're gonna hate

and this statement is not a valid argument. this is because park snowboarding is far ahead of skiing... imagine how much more insane skiing would be if you pricks would have let us into the parks back in the day. when the freestyle ski scene was coming up, skiers weren't even allowed in the park. and now look how far skiing has come in such a short period of time.

this thread should be titled: "Why do so many snowboarders hate ME"it is because you dont have any (snowboarder) friends.

This.

Living in Tahoe, I don't think I ever got any friction while skiing at Squaw. Most of the Friction comes from boarders who suck.

Among most people who are past puberty, and know what's up, I don't see much of a rivalry.

This is spot on. The majority of the top pro snowboarders think skiing is awesome and have so much respect for what our athletes are doing along with the sport in general.

snowboarders hate skiers because skiers cry, bitch and moan when other skiers talk about other skiers outerwear on facebook.

true. i snowboard, and i don't hate skiers anymore. once i saw the tom wallisch dew tour edit i got hooked and now i enjoy watching ski edits more than watching snowboard edits actually. not all of us hate skiers

A lot of the haters are little arrogant bitchy kids who can't do shit on snow, so they rip on skiers to boost their self confidence...

Based on what? In the park/urban realm maybe, but not in big mountains.

Most of the people in the good terrain where I ski are skiers. There are plenty of boarders who hit the good stuff too, but skiers definitely have the numbers advantage. And that is at Mammoth, which is a big boarding mountain. Mammoth's park might be different, but on the upper mountain I see more skiers that impress me. I don't want to leave the impression the top is only ripped by skiers though, because I see some boarders who can handle the mountain.

I ski Mammoth 3 weekends a month. When I don't go, I go to Mt. Baldy, which has some surprisingly good terrain for socal. Baldy blows bear/summit/mt high away for terrain. Baldy is mostly skiers. Mt. Waterman actually has good terrain too, and that is mostly skiers.

In general, I think there are more skiers who focus on the mountain, and more boarders who focus on the park.

i love skiing with snowboarders. i get so much more inspired. and i know some of my snowboarder friends feel the same way about skiing. id say the two sports have more of a friendly rivalry nowadays.

also this.
watching the way snowboarders ride inspires me to try new stuff. tranny find, hit stuff from weird angles, try it differently.

I actually love riding with my snowboarder friends. I get to make fun of them for having to strap in and out at the lifts and its really easy to push them over

Hey we don't hate you guys, actually I'm going to take that back, I don't hate skiers, I cant speak for all of the park rat 13 year old pussy boarders
