ok so for a while now iv notice when i land backseat or when im leaning back in my skis to butter my calfs feel like there splitting and it hurt so much i have no idea why, could it be my boots are to tight or lose or what? please help k+

Here's what happened. You ate shit really hard landing backseat one time (I'm sure you'd remember it) and likely have a small tear/bruised calf. Let me guess, every time you go skiing or even put on your boots for that matter it is pretty painful? There isn't much to heal this issue, just take it easy for a few weeks and the muscle will heal itself. Skier thumb, shin bang and calf problems are probably the most painful, non-'full' injuries in skiing

Apologies, mobile...... Anyways when doing manuals, it puts ALOT of pressure on your calfs. After time it will just get worse and worse. Boots with padded spoilers help out with this alot.

i have exactly the same thing. its only in one leg though but im sure its the same thing. it started when i landed real backseat on a rodeo 7.

Sounds like you have the same issue I had...

Everyone's ankles do something slightly different in ski boots. When I put weight on my feet, my ankles roll ever so slightly, but just enough to make it hurt like a BITCH after skiing for several hours.

Custom footbeds can solve this issue if you go to the right boot fitter. It will run you some coin but it will take the strain off of the muscles on the outside of your calves trying to compensate for your ankles, but it makes a WORLD of difference.

Go to your bootfitter. See what they say.

I came on here to make a thread about this. Last week, I fell off a down rail and landed back seat on one ski. My shin and calfs hurt immensely. I went skiing last night, and it still hurt, but the pain was not very bad. However, near the end of the night, I had a small fall and re hurt my shin and ankle. My boots are a tiny bit big, but I had the buckles very tight. I am skiing this weekend and I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help the pain go away, so I can try some new tricks. Any help would be greatly appreciated

not to promote not going to a bootfitter but full tilts do make the occasional backseat landing much more bearable, and i havent had any calf pain since i started wearing them

stop skiing

your calves are pulled probably from buttering and backseat landings like everyone has said

same thing happened to me from going to a gymnastics place for parkour and my legs couldn't handle all the impact so they knotted up and hurt for over a month

dub post

don't ice them, it'll make them tighter and will only prolong the injury

if anything just fill a bucket with super hot water to relax the muscles

That's not necessarily true.

Using hot water this early in the healing process could potentially damage the muscles.

If the injury is fairly recent, and the pain is still immense, you nearly always start off icing. This will expedite the healing process.

Then after a day or two of icing, you switch to heat.

wow this is so weird because i was just looking at all your ski drawings like 1sec ago and i have a saga lanyard if you still buying

That happens to me too. When i come up from the butter they hurt a little bit, not as bad as when i first started skiing but yea strengthen up your calf muscles i started doing leg presses and it's helped quite a bit.

I've never hurt my calves and they hurt when i butter. I've never heard that before so im kind of skeptical. Idk but hit the gym OP.

Yeh this hapened to me as well, rest them, stretch and ice them. Tightenig my boots up every few hours also helped me alot. I was gettig this as well as really bad shinbang becuase i was landed backseat alot then using my calfs to pull my whole body up and ride away. I even put this soft padding (kinda like a dr schols insole) in between my shin and my boot to fill it out more because of my skinny calfs

i had the exact same problem i bailed hard backseat and it hurt everytime i put my boots on or snapped in my bindings. I just took it easy for a week, and when i went skiing again it felt fine. hope this helps
