Why are so many of my fellow east coasters retarded. (rant)

Ummm, are we forgetting that the Apalach. Mntns used to be the biggest range in the country? Yes, it was a long time ago, but of course there are still gonna be sick cliffs...It's not that they wouldn't get a bunch of snow, they are just too close to sea level making it less likely and favoring northern resorts who could possible get Lake Effect from the great lakes. The Rockies are one of the youngest mountain ranges, and start at roughly a mile above sea level, so of course they will get a lot, same for Cali and Utah.

we have a right to complain, this winter was a lot less of what our winters usually are. and don't go all you could have it worse, sure there is worse skiing but you know what? i live in vermont. and this is a skiing website, not too many folks from alabammer up in here. there's tons of great terrain on the east coast, i love it here. but it rained all winter. and even if jay peak (which happens to be in a location where they get a lot more snow than the rest of vermont) got a lot of snow, that doesn't mean we all got to ski it, we have jobs, school, and a lot of us don't have the funds to make a spontaneous trip up to jay because there's powder. the fact is there were not that many days to go out and get the pow. and when we did get snow, we usually got rain with it. so it was a relatively shitty winter for most of the east coast. that's a fact, a general comparison. yes we could be in the south with no skiing, or in senegal with aids ands starving to death, but we aren't that doesn't mean we should want things to be better.

if the east had like 10,000' or 11,000' mtns we would get hammered, especially in the south because of the gulf ofmexico, a lot of the mtns in nc get around 65 to 70 inchesof water a year, some snoe but mostly rain, if that translated to like even half rain snow, we would get dumped on like they do in the pnw around washington.

quit bitching...if you love to ski THAT much and you love where you live THAT much, you would go out of your way to make a trip to a resort with snow, ESP. if that resort was in the same state...are you joking? Since when has school or a job ever stopped anyone from taking a weekend trip to a ski area in the same state...jc...at least you have the option.

lauren don't you ski at sugarbush? you and john and all the sugarbush kids screw yourselves over by skiing there. jay peak, while maybe a further drive, is so much better cheaper too... stowe, yes, is damn expensive, but its just ridiculously better.

^hey, it's a fee pass- what can i say? haha... next season i am changing mountains due to location... smuggs or stowe... hmm decisions decisions...

Dude, fuck you. We really cannot make the trip to a mountain that has had a good dump. Hell, I'm only able to take 1 maybe two trips to Waterville or Loon every year and those mountains are both under 2 hours away. Don't get all "love for the sport" on us because we do love it, but it really is impossible to make trips like that. From your name I'm guessing you ski deeper and more powder than we have experienced in our entire lives so stop trying to tell us to stop bitching when you got skiing that we cannot even imagine in your back yard. You have no right.

ACTUALLY i love to ski probably a lot more than most people on this site which is EXACTLY the reason I can't get out to other mountains and take trips often i'm a 9-5 skier. at least 5 days a week i am at the mountain first chair to last. i choose to ski instead of work full time, so i hardly have enough money in winter to get my car to the mountain. i go down the mountain in neutral everyday to save gas. the fact of the matter is this winter was really shitty in comparison to the typical central vermont winter. what are you even in this thread for your home mountain is STEAMBOAT. in COLORADO. i bet you didn't endure this winter in vermont, DID YOU?

Haha, you're both about to be owned...I blew both my knees end of last season and have been in Virginia all winter. I got 1 real day on snow this winter so don't either one you fucking talk to me about it.

And I grew up skiing in Virginia for the first 20 years of my life, so I have the right to be in any EC thread I fuckin want.

its a good rant but you have to acknowledge that some places on the east coast got screwed.. we only got 10" at my house the whole winter and two years ago we got 40+" in under two weeks... think about the severe contrast

To be honest, I would not trade my east coast background for anything. Although it certainly would be nice to live at the base of Alta or something, I would have nowhere near the experience that I have now. Slick ice conditions vastly improved my carving technique, and once you master steep icy bumps, you can ski bumps anywhere. Finally, experience on the ice and crud on the steeps of Tuckerman's gives you amazing confidence when you head out west; you see these steep chutes and hit them, but they have plenty of nice snow.

boohoo i was ran over by a car and fractured both my legs wasn't supposed to ski this season but that didn't stop me. year and half ago i broke my back, year before that i tore my acl and mcl and shattered my patella. but i don't play the pity card because shit happens and if it's self inflicted than why should anyone feel bad for me? it's probably your own fault you blew out your knees. cry me a river about your knees, your horrible childhood, i don't give a fuck. this winter sucked for the east coast. that's a fact. when things aren't normal, people complain. and that's pretty standard action and reaction process. if i rained all winter in colorado you'd better believe they're be a shitload of pissed of people complaining on newschoolers.

hahahaha, nobody was crying, I was stating the facts to prove you're dumbass wrong...And yes, I probably did blow my knees because of sloppyass spring conditions, but that's another issue...I mean fuck, it rained twice in December in Steamboat last season, which it hasn't done EVER before...was the worst season in over a decade and you didn't hear me whining like a bitch on the internet about how my season sucked so bad...it's called anually changing weather patterns that nor you or I have any control over...just deal with it. god you guys make me sick...

i am going to be 100% honest with you lauren:

stowe's park is improving every year, much more chill scene, better terrain, and while it is more expensive, the better snow quality is worth it. I mean look right now. smuggs is only 50 percent open, and most of the trails open are shit where as stowe is 81% open still and they still got some steeps and bumps and cliffs. There's no comparison. ski stowe.... plus i ski there now and then :P

Bahahaha, not to be a bitch or anything but it only rained twice? Dude every single snow storm we got here (which was about 3), with the exception of the one in October, was followed by rain. Plain and simple, I think we got more inches in rain than we did in snow. It was bad enough to close some mountains early and indefinitly while many others had to close for a few days a week to conserve snow. This was much, much worse than your 2 days of rain in December.

I was just saying because she was implying it couldn't rain in CO. I just explained to you that I grew up skiing in VA...our resort never even open until after christmas usually...I FEEL YOUR PAIN with the rain, trust me. You guys win!

even allowing people with no access to real skiing to learn how to ski is unfair and should be punishable by death. that's pretty much the worst tease ever.

dude jay peak and stowe and canada always have snow. dude it was january and there was no snow in my yard early feb/late january. but ya those 3 always have snow

Dude, Stowe is money. Midwinter hikes to the top of Mansfield from the gondola gives you great chute skiing, and we have found some powder stashes that are amazing. Local cut glades are also a favorite, snow stays fresh there for a few days after the storm because nobody knows about them. Finally, steeps, and "waterfall" are sick, although you can only hit the top of waterfall when there is loads of snow because the landing is flat.

skiierman and thisangelicrage are jokes. you live in vermont. your northern resorts got hammered this year. dont say you cant drive the extra hour to stowe or jay. i dont believe you, nor should anyone else. i dont care if you have a season pass to sugarbush. if you really loved to ski and you really wanted good snow you would spend the extra $50. shut up with your stupid comments.

DUDE read my posts. i quit my job so i can ski everyday. that leaves me with a 20 hour work week. you work 20 hours and see how far that paycheck gets you. not well off enough to shell out money on gas and tickets. if you don't believe that than you probably have no concept of independent fiances and probably have mommy and daddy pay for everything.

Actually buddy, I live towards the south end of New Hampshire. Good post idea though, but you just got the states wrong.
