Why are so many of my fellow east coasters retarded. (rant)

I am friggen sick of it, honestly sick of it. “the east coast had such a shitty year”, “fuck the east coast”, etc. SHUT THE HELL UP! This rant was sparked by a comment in the Mammoth open until July 4th thread.

Now, there are 15 states on the “East Coast” that have some sort of skiing. Be your hill 100 vertical feet or 3000, many people on the East Coast have access to skiing within their state. This simple fact, however, is quite misleading. While Alabama DOES have a ski hill, it has 2 trails and 150 vertical feet. Being in Alabama, if any of you ski there, I am sure your winter sucked, and the same with SOMEBODY everywhere. Southern Vermont had a rough season too, for instance, however northern Vermont got snow like it is nobody’s business. It's all about location people, so stop generalizing and being stupid because YOUR winter sucked.

East Coasters! Before you give a bad name to all of us who ski on the EC, think about this before you go and make a comment such as ‘the East Coast had such a shitty winter”.

1) Not including the storm right now, JAY PEAK HAS RECEIVED 375 INCHES OF SNOW THIS SEASON. 18+ INCHES ARE FORECASTED BY TOMORROW NIGHT. I, like many of you, will not be able to make it up this weekend, however, I realize what is going on, and don’t go talking about how the East Coast sucks so much. I don’t go and sling around shit about the East Coast and how badly it sucks; because it doesn’t.

In the words of DepeirreAR5 “Don’t make me bust out the Jay Peak Pics”. I’ll hit you with 3 anyways.

2) Places other than Jay have been getting sick snow too this year. I can’t speak for Maine?, but Stowe had a pretty killer season as well. With this snow, they’ll be over 300” this year too. This was from 2.5? weeks ago:

3) A lot of people also complain about how the East Coast has no big terrain, and rationalize their park-ratness with that excuse. WRONG. Jay Peak, Stowe, MRG, Camel’s Hump, Whiteface, many of the trails in the Adirondacks, Tuckerman’s, Tramline at Cannon, and Mt. Greylock, MA (and I cant speak for Maine) have PLENTY of back country and extreme terrain; so much so that people have a tendency to die. Since 2000, 9 people have died between Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire in avalanches. There are big cliffs that require big balls, too. While 200 footers are not realistically possible, Stowe and Jay (and their surrounding areas) have some massive cliffs (quite a few over 60 feet, and a couple featured in mags) that many people go out and stomp the shit out of. Tuckerman’s headwall takes some serious balls to launch off of, especially when there are huge crevasses you fall into if you come up short in the spring. If you as East Coasters really want it, it is there.

4) There’s another country East Coasters tend to forget about. Canada. Eastern Canada (or so I’ve heard, I’ve never been there) has some awesome skiing and riding potentials. If you don’t believe me, go pick up a Meathead movie, and stop talking shit.

yah i agree, but i live in ontario. so unless you arent counting that as east coast, it fucking blows! our average bas the whole year was like 90 cm at most.

i live on the east coast... of the isle of wight. we haven't had snow for like 6 years. that was fucking awesome rant though!

wow those pics look pretty epic, but at okemo, which is south vt, it was kidna pooppish. but i reckon other places were pretty gnar

"Before you give a bad name to all of us who ski on the EC, think about this before you go and make a comment such as ‘the East Coast had such a shitty winter”"

How the fuck are we giving the east coast a bad name by saying it had a shitty winter?

The fact is, the MAJORITY of the east coast had a shitty winter.

You obviously live near jay peak and had a good winter, well the 95% of us that dont live in northern vermont and maine had a SHITTY WINTER. So fuck off, the east coast DID have a shitty winter, its not giving the east coast a bad name, its just how nature is.

haha, i think i pissed this guy off with my comment in the Mammoth Thread

i live in western NY where the hills blow, i came to school up here hoping for better mountains and snow, but at Killington where i ski, i have become real dissapointed with the conditions, today was actually one of the best days out there, and i skied Jay once this year and it was amazing, and a couple of my friends skiied Tucks and it was waist deep snow. But at killington i was expecting more, sorry

chic choc mountains has sick ass backountry, word dude! but the problem is that me,living in montreal, can't go everyweekend to jay-peak that is 3hs away from my home(the closest powder mountain that I know), but when I'm going I'm only hitting powder atleast to my knees each time I go there and the chic choc range is a good 12hs of car. But you're definatly right there is some kick ass powder on The East coast, you could take too mount washington that has some good terrain as I know.

dude i live on the east coast, and every winter is a waiting game and a crap shoot, i mean i skied in rain in december then the next day ski in 10 inches of snow? since then MY winter has been shitty, but ive got some good days in. i realize i had a better winter than some skiers, but in general, compared to last year i didnt have a good year. but dude look at what washington had last year. no one complain after that. the mtns were closed from january-april, that is shitty. skiing in general is a crapshoot, its all a waiting game. but the waiting pays off forsome and for others it doesnt. and yea were getting snow now, kinda late. but yea the east is def just as extreme as the west, and yes i have been to utah and even austria, and the terrain, although very different, poses many different challenges, both to have a shitload of fun on, and a shitload of danger on.

but basically i have no idea what i just said, if i agreed with u or disagreed with you. sorry.

every single fukcing year, even on AVERAGE and slightly ABOVE AVERAGE years everybody comes and bitches and moans about hwo the EC sucks. By bitching and moaning, all YOU people do is make us look bad...

and the MAJORITY of the people on the East Coast shouldn't really matter. While hte MAJORITY of hte ppl in hte PNW had a killer season, I am sure that some people did not. Should they go around saying that the PNW didn't have a killer season even though it was sick? no. Should yuppie massholes and people from New Jersey go around and sling shit on a killer season? no. Should people from North Carolina generalize our season as shit because of where they live? no.

i wanna fuckin ski that shit. i rode up with a dude at stowe who was going in a couple days last week... and i think they're getting hit by this system rihgt?

alev i agree with most of what you said, but last year the bitching of washington and oregon deffinately outdid this years eastcoast bitching. jay peak this weekend is going to be sick. whos going?

I can speak for maine. Terrain, fine. I'm not complaining. But, it is now where close to the west coast. Snow. I am complaining. Yes, Jay may have had a good winter, but we didn't see as much snow as normal; while the west coast got hammered. Us east coasters are not complaining about what we have gotten, but are complaining what it could be like, compared to our ideals.

born from ice was a sick movie, i couldn't believe some of the stuff was from the east.

last year i went up to jay, and it was just a 5-day powdery orgasm.

jay is such a sick mountain. just too damn far from where i live (south of boston)

its true, all i care is that i had a fun season skiing. Yah there wasn't much snow where i go and i can;t get up to Jay peak, but thats just what i deal with. Plus, i like park better, theres almost always snow in the parks

east coast skiing is alright but nothing compared to out west (i ski at a hill with 400 verticle feet and dream of 3000 foot hills with fresh powder)droooool...

the only thing I'll complain about is the rain we got this season in the WHOLE east coast, yea we got a ton of snow, then warm then rain, then snow. whiteface was SICK when they got snow, the trees at Jay were tracked when I got there but jay still is alright, that shot at stowe is what I had at whitey till gapers tracked out the slides... the east coast can ahve some great stuff but the rain, the god damned rain!

i was too lazy to read all of that...but this winter in PA sucked ass, well...it always does, but this year even more so!

no shit. dont complain because you didnt get up there and didnt make the most of you season. all of you need to get the stick out of your ass and realise other people had worse who arent complaining. i hope you guys tear your acls next year and dont get to ski at all. appreciate what you have. go to a fucking college out west. take a road trip. take a vacation. you have plenty of oppurtunities. and dont say you dont have money or anything cause thats complete fucking bullshit. 99% of skiers are fairly wealthy. or if your parents are willing to pay, save up money over the summer. $1000 is 3 months is not that hard. i cant believe how fucking bitchy all of you are.

I dont know if I would say it was a good season for northern vt, it had some good points, but over all it was definitely warmer and less snowy than usual.

i read that whole shit and even thought i say east coast sucks, its all good cause the summer time is whats good. and i love mountain creek no matter how sucky it is or was this season. besides the long lines geeze louise

i need to get my license, so i can drive to these places so i can stop complaining on how my yard had a meir 1 inch of snow all year...In Amherst NH

actually the only reason i wasnt up there this year is because i work at my local mountain. And no i'm not to poor to drive up there, but i dont have a drivers liscence, and my parents dont want to drive up 6 hours each way in one day. And i cant stay over night because mabye i cant afford that.

not really wishing. just tryiing to get the message across that you should appreciate that you even got to ski as much as you did. even if it was shitty.

this season was shorter than usual, but its already april and its still snowing so theres no need to complain yet because its not over
