When Emo starts to be a problem is when people listen to it and either try and fit themselves into the songs to be cool by being uncool or just totally rip off the band's style. I don't really have a problem with the music, it just seems like the kids listening to it are trying so hard to be something they naturally aren't.

For example, this one kid I used to know growing up has become pretty hardcore emo. It's great to hear him rag sometimes about preppy and pop stuff, saying how everybody is just doing what they're told, when at the same time he's just doing what he's told in the music he listens to. It's one thing to "live" a music style, it's another to conform to a music style, if that makes sense...

^ yah, its great to hear people talk about how the majority falls into a system and conform to it, when the great part of the minority do the same thing, its just that their system of conformity is opposite of the majority so they belive because not as many people are doing it, it is not part of a system. but no matter what you do, you cant get away from immitatating other peoples styles and attitudes.

The music is not talented in emo....its simple riffs and beats with aweful singing. and Emo's are depressed girls or gay boys/boys that havent come out of the closet yet because they are not done crying. They usally wear black but are not to be confused with gothics who suposedly have no emotions what-so-ever.

If your friend dye's his or her hair black talk to them and give them another genre of music to lisen to.

emo is a genre of soft punk rock music which usually includes the use of pianos and other classical instruments. the emotions expressed in the songs are usually about self pity and sorrow. there are other brances of emo styled music such as screamo, which are the same lyrics only played as hardcore. there are so many different genres of music that you can't put a bunch of diverse bands in a category and call them emo. take a look at heavy metal music, how many different styles are a branch of that? hardcore, post hardcore, metalcore, screamo, hard rock etc etc etc.

oh and just another question for all you rap fans out there, how can you sit there and make fun of people for listening to emo/screamo while you listen to rappers who don't even play instruments and sing about shooting people, raping women, and saying nigger over and over? and what about all of these generic white kids who wear clothes big enough to fit 4 people, who come from suburban families and say that they're gangster? for starters, original gansters were irish and italian mafia from the 1920s who's original goal was to protect each other because they were imigrints. Most rappers aren't gangsters, they just say so to make them look tough so that mainstream people will listen to that music and therefore think that they are tough. so all you so called 'gangsters' who are bashing on punk music should give it the respect it deserves.

not all kids that wear womens jeanes are emo.... i know a few kids in my school that wear womens jeanes... and they are more hardcore than emo... tight jeanes also is warn by bmx riders as well as hardcore kids...

as for attitude of emo kids... they are always sad about something... thats about it....no biggy.....

haha i would rather hang out with a emo kid than a poser or a white kid wearing 7XL shirts.. and g-unit hats....
